Judging by the kid's behaviour and the way his parents talk about him, I doubt they ever even made the effort to start with him. His attitude is way beyond being pampered, his parents never bothered to teach him anything.

As parents we installed a work ethic in our boys who have followed it through and forged good careers. I'm pleased to say that they have continued that ethic down to my grandchildren who are still as focussed!

Sadly I think Simon will continue down the same path for as long as daddy and mummy continue to facilitate his pathetic attitude. If they stopped babying him,and stopped hampering to his every want he'd start learning. I had great parents who kept me safe while giving me a safe home ,a warm bed, a good education ,and good health. I learnt very early to -do household chores, homework, have respect and consideration for those around me,to be honest and kind, and to expect to work for everything I got. My Dad and mum were not well off but they set me up To be an asset to an employer and I've never had any real drama finding work. I've walked away from jobs at times, but was never unemployed for very long. I'd left school at 15 and got my trade qualifications just after turning 19. ( A four year apprenticeship). If you meet an employer like the captain on that boat often it all about your work ethic. Many employers are happy to train someone totally inexperienced if that new person is showing that he or she will work hard and try to learn as quickly as possible . My wife's niece worked as a solo deckhand on a small prawn trawler off northern Queensland Australia. The temperature up there is stifling in summer. Sometimes over 40 Celcius and the water is teaming with dangerous sharks. She was only 18 but the captain was sad to see her go. She helped me on a job digging and pushing a wheelbarrow. She worked a lot harder than a lot of the muscled up, gym junkies I've seen on building sites. It's all about having the right attitude

Do you reckon if Shiney was made from chocolate that he'd eat himself? Any Brixham Lads know this? Does Shiney jump between boats for different species? I'm sure I saw him skippering the "Angel Amiel"

Simon is the epitome of the youth of today , all that was missing was he wasn't glued to his phone, maybe he should glue himself to a few roads as he says he is rebellious, he has the makings of 1 of them useless activists

Simon's behaviour was appalling but it's upsetting to see his parents not even have a word (good or bad) between them when asked to describe him, you created this, you are responsible for this.
You cannot raise your child not appreciating how money is made or understanding it takes hard work to achieve wealth, then literally throw him out to sea when he gets to a certain age, is an entitled knob because you allowed him to be and just expect him to act accordingly.
    It's piss poor parenting.

Not a good first job. Yet, his parents are not to totally blame. Social media is a cancer as well. This kid is a POS and no awareness of the position and people surrounding him.

Simon is the product of his parents always letting him do whatever he likes. My mum would have slapped the skin of me if I'd behave like that as a teenager. I was almost all a qualified carpenter/joiner by that age. Reading plans and machining all the components. I remember tearing the cartilage out of my ribcage at 15 after a piece of timber flew off a industrial table saw and hit me in the ribs. My boss gave me five minutes grace before I had to start machining timber again. 34 years later and I'm still suffering but I got the career I really wanted.
