I was TODAY years old when I found out that Arthur SULLIVAN composed this.
I loved this song as a little kid and would march to the beat. And at 74 I still remember most of the words.
Love that riff at the beginning. Bomp bomp bomp etc. Sets you up to open up the lungs and give it some!
When I visiting my grandmother's church for Vacation Bible School, we would march into church on this song.
We sang this in my Episcopal nursery school and kindergarten in church every day.
Congratulations...the klan would sing this song in front of their fiery cross

Phenomenal choir! Side bar: Arthur Sullivan (Gilbert and Sullivan) wrote this for little kids at the summer camp where he was music director. He created the marching ditty because, after vespers each night, the youngest kids were afraid to walk back to their cabins in the dark. So his new hymn got them stomping through the woods unafraid.
It was for the Crusades and saving the West and her Pulpit. It will rise again!

This was my late father's favourite hymn. Father Hancock told me that he had to have it on the hymn list for my dad once a month. May you both rest in Heaven. I haven't heard this hymn in years and it's made my day Lord.

This was my elementary school's theme song. They were pro-life but learned to love war for Jesus. They were cool with Iraq and stuff. 👍
