When I was a young kid I saw this on TV. Fell in love with it. I was hoping that it would be made into a television series. Especially like the soundtrack. Pretty good idea and concept.
I saw Star Maidens when it was first aired and I was 7 and had just entered junior school, and also this is Gareth Thomass first sci-fi series before he became famous in Blakes Seven as Roj Blake . It is a shame in billions of ways Star Maidens was not given a second, series but there we are.
Man - You brought up Fantastic Journey - I had to prove to others that it existed - but any time you could get a Roddy McDowell figure that's golden, so we'll go with that
I remember Scifi Channel used to rerun all the episodes! Via Vision in Australian released Fantastic Journey, the complete series to dvd in an all regions dvd set. Then all the episodes used to be on youtube.
Well, thanks to your channel, I'm becoming a Mego junkie! After getting and being impressed by the Hammer Dracula, I just got the new Universal Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and the Hannibal Lecter in the orange jumpsuit. Damn you, lol I wanted the Ace from Kiss, but maybe next time ⏲️😔
Well I was born in the UK in the 70's and have never heard of this show lol! I was all over space 1999 but this one past me by somehow but once again I'm amazed by what you seem to dig up Brian. Great episode and something new for me to look into :)
You are not the only one, whenever I tell people about this show, about this 70s show about a dominatrix planet ruled by women in hotpants and gogo boots, a get strange looks as if I am confusing reality with the vague memory of a wet dream. But the show was real, I have the DVDs to prove it. Over on the continent it was known under names that translate roughly as _Medusa Planet of the Women._
Space 1999. Was very very good. When I was young I was all over that. I especially like season number one. Matter of fact I have them all. Even as a grown man still love it
I remember it, but only just. I live in Northampton and it was available on Midlands TV but not Anglia TV, Midlands reception was dodgy so sometimes you could see its programmes and sometimes you couldn't. I saw one or two episodes at most. It seems like there was no significant marketing for it also.
I caught a flash of Garreth Thomas as one of the actors on this show. He, of course, went on to star in another British Sci-fi show: Blake's 7. I wish Blake'7 7 had had an action figure line, preferably in scale with the Mego Star Trek figs.
Actually, the 1991 Land of the Lost series got a figure line from Tiger Toys. There are commercials for them on UA-cam. That said, a line from the original show would have been awesome.
I work for a music/DVD distributor and I've seen the dvd for this series in the racks and often thought about ordering it, this video pushed me over. ;)
This is a very fun show. I never knew they made figures for it. Speaking of fantastic British sci-fi, I wish they would have made figures for Blake's 7 and Tomorrow People.
They never showed this in my TV region, but I was aware of it from the merchandise. I was intrigued by the blurb on the novelization, but not enough to buy the book - mostly (I suppose) because I was at an age when I'd have died of embarrassment had I been caught reading it by another boy, and been jeered at for reading a "girls' book". Good to finally catch up with it now it's posted on UA-cam - though the presence of Gareth Thomas now gives it a gravitas I suspect it was never intended to have.
This is great! I watched this series recently, along with The Starlost, - huge fun! But for a long time now, I thought I was the only person who remembered Holmes and Yoyo - good to be no longer alone... I would have loved some toys from Fantastic Journey and Logan's Run...
I remember as a kid wanting the Jim Nabors' Lost Saucer (had to look up "Gomer Pyle robot in space" for the name ) figures, and the aliens from it and from Far Out Space Nuts (THAT I remembered; "Lunch." "Launch." " I said 'lunch'", lol,). But I only recall a coloring book as merch . I did try to make my own Chickephant toy though with 2 hard unarticulated figures. Not a pretty sight.
@@BrickMantooth I tried looking it up to send a link, but I'm not finding any mention of it. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I have a vivid memory of coloring in the chestplate on one of the characters. (Hmmm, or sometime between back then and now I slipped through to y'all's parallel universe where it was never made? That would explain the different toys on your channel I've never heard of before ;) )
This is a show that I've often heard about, but never actually seen. Most 70's Sci-Fi shows got reshown, but growing up back then I think this show somehow escaped. I didn't realise the late Gareth (Blake's 7) Thomas was in it, but then I didn't know he was in Children of the Stones from 1977 (very creepy UK show) either until I got the DVD a few years ago. I'll certainly try and watch it now in some form or another, as I also liked Space: 1999 a lot and can definitely see what you mean when you say it's done in the same style. The figures themselves are very interesting, and it's great you've done a video about them, so thanks. Like a few people on here I wish they had done Fantastic Journey action figures, as I loved that show greatly, and maybe Otherworld, a similar show from the 80's, would have been a good choice too. Finally, loved seeing the Holmes and YoYo Annual - they used to love bringing out an annual over here about virtually every TV show or film back then.
I need to re-watch Children Of The Stones (which I barely remember) but also have to be in the mood for its creepiness. Even just the scene close to its start (which I _have_ re-watched) in which they look like they're about to hit a standing stone on the road but it turns out to be an old lady is incredibly creepy.
Yeah I really should have mentioned Thomas, I'm a huge Blake's 7 fan going back to the eighties when it (finally) aired in Canada. Need to check out Children of the Stones post-haste!
I was born in the 70s in England but I dont remember this one ! Thanks for the info Brian. Ps I can attest to the Uk annuals thing - I have shelves full of them - even that Holmes & Yo-Yo one!
I have always been a science fiction fan and recall this show from around 1976-77 (I was aged about 11/12) when it was broadcast on the ITV network in the UK. Quite a quirky 70s gem! The franchise figures you display seem quite poor quality. I do once recall seeing a figure of much better quality for sale from the Star Maidens show around this period. However, it was the Supreme Mother of Medusa (Clara) played I believe by the late Dawn Adams. The headdress was quite distinctive. No idea which manufacturer made this but I thought this small piece of trivia might be of interest.
The series was shown on a few channels in the U.S. including one in New England and spumone needs to get the best film prints (or negatives ) of this show and do 4K scans of this half-hour show ASAP and reissue them, with extras this time. The actor who played one male fugitive characters landed up a lead character on the hit BLAKES 7 and I did see a couple of these figures mint on card at a show a few years ago at a toy show.
Wow! I had never encountered this one. Did it ever air in the US? It's almost like someone slapped together the major plots of Logan's Run and Gene Rodenberry's second Genesis II pilot? What was the weird kinky fascination with Matriarchal Societies enslaving men in the early 70's?
Could you, or have you ever made a video on Mego plastic toy soldiers? Specially when the took over Marx guns of Navarone or other playsets. Love your videos and thanks for all the background research
our _solar system_ not our _galaxy_ - they were always in our galaxy I often hear people confuse the two, but one of these sorts of things is about 50 million times bigger than the other.

It was a shame in billions of ways there were no male figures from Star Maidens produced
I love STAR MAIDENS and Judy Geeson.
She's great!
@@BrickMantooth She's a goddess. One of my early TV crushes. Used to rush back home from Sunday school to watch STAR MAIDENS as a kid.
Yes, I was obsessed with Logan's Run as a kid!
Me too!
now you got me longing for Holmes & Yoyo action figures!!
Brick Mantooth, digging the rabbet holes for his to go down.

OMG!!!! I SOOOOOO want these!!!! And I really must seek out the TV series. What a hidden treasure... thanks so much for posting this!!!!
Glad you enjoyed, the series is on UA-cam.
Greetings from Mexico. This show was actually released in my country during the early 80s as "Amazonas Del Espacio" (Amazons From Space).
Thanks for letting me know, appreciate it.

Wow, why have I never heard of this show until now? You’re right absolutely everything even half popular got an annual here
I am grateful for that to be honest, I collect annuals and they make merch for shows that barely got any.

I have some info on those but no toys.
The Prisoner oddly would have lent itself well to toys....especially Rover and the Catherham Super Seven....maybe Neca will make some....damn
There's a kickstarter for a line of Prisoner action figures running right now, fully funded.
