- Vicki butler henderson does a review of the vx220 turbo. I think it's from a 5th gear special.
To all Americans, this car is NOTHING like the pontial solstice or saturn sky apart from it may look vaguely similar if you are blind.
It is based on a lotus elise but with different body panels and GM power train. Rear mid-engined, rear wheel drive, 200bhp, bonded aluminium chassis and grp body. It weighs just over 900KG in the turbo version.
It did sound like she was just trying to just come up with an excuse to move on to the next car and the VX is not as 'practical' as a boxster or s2000. But having said that, I use my VX as my everyday car and love every minute of it. Each to their own.
And I don't have a problem with the badge, it only seems to be the likes of Clarkson that has started all that BS. Vauxhall have a very respectable motorsport history. And produced some decent cars along the way.
Getting into and out of the VX is my favourite part, it's great watching my missus, who's had to return half her shopping because the roof is in in the boot, then tries to clamber into the car without showing the world what's between her legs!
Dont worry about it our kid. Weve all seen that anyway.
isn't this car also called Opel Speedster?
I have the NA version of this car and cannot see why she thinks the roof is "Fiddly"!! I can take mine off in 20 seconds whilst still in my seat with my seatbelt on. Typical Bird. LOL

Very true... though of course the VX220 is built by Lotus which means it's a bit different from the usual Vauxhall ;-)

what was the car that was easier to live with that she was sat in???? difficult to tell, S2000?
no it's not, the saturn sky is based on the opel gt, definately not the vx220. Note the engine being at a completely different end of the car.
Well actually we can blame you, since the VX220 looks nothing like the Saturn Sky, nor any other car ;-)
Plus it's no longer new, sadly they stopped making them two years ago :-(

that clip seems to be missing the beginning and the end, and Vicky doesn't even thrash it???
Lovely car, but appalling heater - setting off on a November morning takes you 10 minutes to clear the screen, virtually every one leaks from somewhere and very stiff suspension (better than the N/A though) means you have to drive very carefully on rough roads. (My MR2 is better round corners)
The engine is absolutely fantastic though - far better than the Elise R.
I gave up after 6 months - too much effort... My 2 cents

just re taxed me vx220 .... still makes me laugh ..... puts a massive grin on me face , still five years on ...haha and ive lost no money as its still worth over 12 grand......ten year old car....

the VX220 its a great car, althought I prefer its german brother, the Opel Speedster =P just the same car with other make logo XD
