    I'm more with the second opinion where your friend said "depends on what level you are". If you're a beginner who doesn't have a clue how filmmaking works then the last thing you should worry is gear because lots of things have to be learned before you start spending on it. And when you're becoming a pro filmmaker then you need the right gear for the right shoot to get a better product. So my opinion is that gear matters when you know what you're doing :)

      Good take and completely agree! Has to have a purpose especially for the pro work you get hired for.

      Yes, i have the same vision. If you already worked out and is on a level up you have to get a good gear, but i believe that if you are good with no gear you can make whatever you want just using your creativity.

    • @jammaschan
      @jammaschan 7 місяців тому

      But if yoy think about it another way, gear can help you overcome beginner issues. Put the fx6 into auto and as long as you heard some youtuber say shoot in slog3 you can just put it in resolve, chuck a lut you bought on it and you could actually make something look better than some more experienced person shooting on a phone.

    This question (in my opinion) is often interpreted incorrectly. "Does gear matter" takes most people's mind to "do you need gear" and the obvious answer is ALWAYS YES!! If you are shooting video.. you NEED gear.
    The better question (in my opinion) is "how important is gear when shooting".
    I also believe that asking the question "does gear matter" is overrated as it causes people to FOCUS on the gear! (In my opinion) we TALK about gear WAAAAAAAY too much vs creating and sharing content that SPEAKS to people!
    The reality is that talking about gear on UA-cam BUILDS one's channel by doing these things!
    .Gear companies reach out.
    .Brand deals are made.
    .Chances to go to special events.
    .Feeds the UA-cam algo
    and many other MONETARY gains and opportunities.
    The TRUTH is that it's MUCH more difficult to come up with INTERESTING topics that resonate with people vs talking about, reviewing and comparing cameras and gear.
    The talented UA-camrs know how to do BOTH very well! Like Vuhlandes!
    Great video! 👍🏾

    Yes, gear does matter. Let's try make a film without any gear - no camera, no mic, no computer for editing, no screen to show what we have made. So?
    Ok, ok, does QUALITY of the gear matter? Just go to Nolan and ask him why does he is not using just a bare eyephoune for his films?
    We are talking about cinema theater films, right? Real filmmakers does not care about vlogs, tiktoks, etc.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  7 місяців тому +1

      100% it has to get the creative vision to the best it can be.

  • @prostoparen
    @prostoparen 7 місяців тому +1

    Yes it does matter, and it matters very, very much. If I'm see my project shot on anamorphic and nothing else than I have to rent/buy anamorphic lens otherwise this project will not be finished because I have specific vision and this vision HAVE to meet with gear. If I need stable shot then I need system that provides stabilization. If I need beautiful image I need lights and so on.
    Gear doesn't matter as long as you willing sacrifice ur vision and ur expectations from the project you're working on and this is something good Creator simply cannot afford to do.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  7 місяців тому

      Exactly. There are tools for everything and bringing the creative vision to life needs to be the goal of every production !

    Yeah it does matter, I mean, yes you can make a amazing job with some entrie level cameras, let's say, but if you have the opportunity to use a camera with more advanced features, that will make your job easier and faster, why not? It's like, you can travel to anywhere in the world, would you choose to make it on a airplane, or by car?

    I feel like gear matters up until a point where you have a solid camera that's good enough. What really matters is everything else that makes the shot and the story. These modern cameras are so good now you can just know what you're doing and be good at color grading and make it look really high end honestly.

    I think both of them said kinda the same thing and JD i think spoke at Length and in continuation asto what kofi said. Yes gear matters but for beginners like me, it doesn't and shouldn't matter that much. Find you budget and think a lot about it then i guess maybe stretch it a little and research a lot and then buy the camera. In short no it doesn't matter that much for beginners but very much for professionals.

  • @holliente
    @holliente 7 місяців тому +1

    For sure matters especially if you’re doing a job for someone. Would you go to a mechanic with all the tools, or one with a limited amount? Both can get the job done, but it will be much easier and quicker for one of them. 9:29

  • @rixson
    @rixson 7 місяців тому

    Yes, gear does matter. If you have better gear, you definitely have better advantage. If you're doing professional work, you need to show up to a client that you have gear, so he or she will trust you because that'll show that you know your stuff. However, if you're just doing a hobby or a vlog / online content creation, most probably, you can end up just using phone, and you'll be fine because most nowadays, everyone just uses their phone for social media. Professional work / commercials / films = gear is a must. Online content creation = whatever you have works just fine because authenticity matters over the quality of your image.

    I own sony zv1 have it around 2 years have fun with it but I am ready for the next step and saving money to buy Sony A6700 with sigma 18mm f2.8 for lowlight, wide and zoom lens. Did a lot of research and thinking further about my situation. Right now I'm making content about building gunpla and in my other channel I made one urban street video and I really like it to go out and shoot videos. In the future I want to make more urban cinematic videos with handheld I don't want to bring a lot of gear because I don't have enough space and not easy to travel or moving around city. In other invirorment like studio or a set its different situation because I need gear like tripod, rail tripod, LED and softbox to have more controls with the setting. I agree with JD and kofi says also what you saying. But for me I think you need gear to fix your problems or for other it helps a lot easier. But I always ask myself and to others: for what purpose are you using it for. This is the question to clarify before you buy anything.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  7 місяців тому

      Great take!! Definitely to help you ease on filming and to solve problems!! I love that a fellow gunpla fan got to see this video 🙌🏽🙌🏽

    This is an everyday battle for me. I really want to get clients for videography/cinematography work. I use the fuji x-s10 so I am limited to 8bit and feel like my color grading is limited. Would you say I am in the boat of gear matters for client work? Not trying to make excuses for myself, but I do lack confidence in my gear capabilities.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  7 місяців тому +1

      If it’s hindering your work and you’re earning to justify the purchase, you go right ahead! If the gear makes money you get to invest in efficiency and quality !

    Hey, Victor i have a request to make. Can you please in near future make a video on OR share your views related to X-s20. I've been dead set to buy xs20 but recently I'm having doubts. I've heard sony's autofocus and stabilization is better. But Fuji's colors are said to be much better than anyone also the film simulations and fun with jpegs and some small other details too. If i buy fuji xs20, I'll buy it with kit lens 18-55mm which has OIS, so, IBIS+OIS will(or should) be really helpful in my aspirations for personal level filmmaking. Please if possible help me out.

    • @VictorLaforteza
      @VictorLaforteza  3 місяці тому +1

      I can only share my views on the a6700. Tbh any camera now wouldn't be better than the other. It's just up to personal preference. What I would be able to do on the XS20 will be the same with the a6700. I've never tried the XS20 and all I know is specs so I can't really give you any recommendations

    • @Akagami753
      @Akagami753 3 місяці тому

      @@VictorLaforteza That's enough, thank you 😊 your confidence in your craft inspires me to just get better with whichever i buy. Just one question, would the stabilization or autofocus bother you (handheld) if it's not up to the mark? If not then it's just the matter of mastering my own gear and getting better at it😤🔥
      Have a great day man!
