Having watched and enjoyed your batreps and now this new series, I am seriously considering Saga...Ian
good update will be keeping a eye on your batrap ,as i might get into saga myself
Great one Viv!
Cheers,
Trist.
nice video, will be watching this series, have my rulebook on the way so this is a great help :)
Great video series, keep p the good work. From your background in this series you obviously like to read. I would highly recommend Bernard Cornwall's Last Kingdom(or any other) series. It is Historical fiction set in the time of Alfred the Great. Anyone who likes Saga will enjoy reading it.
Thanks for your videos!
Haven't played SAGA for a while but ran Anglo Saxons a lot.
I found that the best list was:-
4 x warriors (32 Figs). Organised into 1 unit of 12 figs, 2 units of 10 figs. Armed with Spear/shield
2 x levy (24 Figs). Organised into 2 units of 12 Figs. Bow/sling Armed.
OR
3 x Warriors (24 figs) 2 units of 12.
3 x Levy (36 Figs) 2 Units of Bow/Sling and 1 Unit of Spear or Bow Depending on enemy.
In both cases you will be limited for initial SAGA dice so clever use of the BB will be required to use the AS's effectively. AS they tend to be a more defensive army this doesn't altogether hamper them very much In my opinion. If you are using a 'Hero' then I tend to opt for "Athelstan(?)" due to his ability to arm his warriors with different weapons.
As you may notice I don't run Hearth-gaurd as I find they don't add much and are quite overpriced for what you get in return. IMHO they are not a great fit for this army. Warriors are better and you get more bang for your buck IMHO.
My basic strategy is to wear down the enemy with bow fire as they advance and then mop up the remainder with the warriors.
Cheers

TheNWPerry Thanks Neil ... great list, I have been thinking something very similar to your 1st list ... 4 points on warriors and 2 on levies. After playing with the Irish and seeing how shooting effects/works in the game I'd certainly arm my AS levies with slings/bows. Thanks for watching, and your comments. Cheers
I forgot you can also use 'The Bard' which costs zero and though limits your War Lord you get 1 Saga die for them IIRC so for the AS is worthwhile I think.

6 pts army : 6 warriors in 4 12model units. 8 pts army : 6 warriors, 1 hearth guard, Lord Athelstan. Put the 4 hearthguard in the 4 warrior units(lower armor but add attacks in shoot/melee and have 4 13model units). Have one 13model unit have javelins for a decent shooting(7 attacks) while still have 14 melee attacks. Board abilities give 5dice maxed to 6.
Here's some feedback for you; those are some bitchin' hats.
More seriously, Saga's been on my radar since I got back into the hobby, but never quite made it into my collection. But your reports have caught my attention, and the wide range of stuff mindgames has in the CBD is making it hard to find reasons not to.
Oh, and have a plus 1 just for the McCaffrey in the back ground.
EvilHarryDread It's a fun game, there are loads of options out the for miniatures so its an easy game to get into and with lots of the plastic kits having more than enough men at reasonable prices its well affordable too.

I do like the look of the kits. My two young kids have started to paint with me and I was eyeing them up as cheaper options for them to practice on. And hey, it's Christmas coming up!
EvilHarryDread I have some ebay at the moment if you're interested, free shipping also
