    Hi Liz! Lightbulb moment for me after watching this, so thank you! I haven't bought a card in over 15 years - I have made own with my scrapbooking supplies (die cuts, rubber stamps, patterned paper, etc.) and also with my own photographs in conjunction with scrapbooking supplies. Since I started watercolor painting last year, I have made cards for people using the actual paintings. (At Christmas, I handpainted 25 cards!) I always cut my own cards using cardstock and a guillotine trimmer and I have plenty of envelopes on hand (and even a supply of plastic sleeves as I have sold some in the past). My printer doesn't take cardstock, but since I want to mount the photo of my painting on coordinating paper like I do my "regular" photos, I can just print them on regular photo paper! And............I just tried a few on some matte photo paper and they came out just fine! How fun! I already take a photo of every painting I do and have them in files on my laptop so I can see my progress and past attempts, even if I "trash" the painting. Now, using your tips on photographing the paintings, I'll have a supply of ideas at the ready when I need a card for something (and I send cards all the time!). This will really help as it isn't the easiest to layer a painting on watercolor paper with sometimes 2 layers of coordinating paper and the cardstock! Thank you very much for this video and also - for future reference - the tips on outside printing in case I ever want to do them in larger quantities.

      @@LizChadertonArt Don't give me too much credit!! HAHA! Some were full sized greeting cards, but I did a lot of notecard sized ones, so the actual painting was only 3 x 4 1/2. I picked out several tutorials I liked and did 5 or 6 of each........so assembly line.....backgrounds, salt, some pen and ink. I'm a homebody, especially when it's freezing out - and I just listen to podcasts and spend hours in my craft room! 🥰But this year I will probably use your idea and print copies so I don't have to paint the same thing multiple times!

    I love love love this video. Thank you for sharing this process. One last question…how do you get over the feeling that you’re not good enough? I’m 72 and took up watercolor 5 years ago and feel like an imposter. Though I’ve had people ask if I sell my work?

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому +3

      oh Mary, that’s so hard. We all get imposter syndrome. I was doing an event this weekend and the other artist had been to art school etc etc. I felt such a self-taught amateur. But you need to give yourself a stiff talking to. Save all those nice comments and write them on postit notes above your work space. Read them and say them out loud. You will gradually believe it, but we all have wobbles!

    Thank u! Ive been wanting to do this n tried a local shop that was a so so experience and kinda discouraged me. You make me want to try again and i will 😊. When taking the photo i noticed u didnt pay any mind to the color of the surface u layed the painting on. I notice when i use different backgrounds it makes the picture look different. Does it color adjust or just appear that way and not an issue once its cropped? Do u notice this? Im just using phone camera. Also, any special tips on making prints from watercolor? Your art is so cool 😊

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  Рік тому +2

      Yes tge colour of the background makes a difference. I think I said in the film you should experiment to find your favourite place with good light. Reflected colour of the background can make a colour cooler or warmer. As these are cards not limited edition prints, exact colour matching isn’t an issue (unless it matters to you).
