The Sex Pistols First Gig in America (1978)

- On 5 January 1978, British punk sensation the Sex Pistols played their first American gig at the Great South East Music Hall in Atlanta, Georgia. It was the first show of a tour that saw band members Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Sid Vicious play a string of old ballrooms across the southern states. With the band more dysfunctional than ever, and disputes between the band and its management reaching a climax, the ill-fated tour was marked by cancellations, with some shows being abandoned halfway through. At the end of the month, Rotten announced the break up of the Sex Pistols.

Great footage. Wish there was more!
I've got a collection 250 items seen them 6 times on reunion tours, met glen and John and have lots of footage of the pistols this is quite rare shocked 😲 it was on itv,as it was a low key at the time the usa tour.
I was at the concert as a 17 year old courtesy of my British boyfriend. That’s him at the end and the back of my head 😂
legend
🇬🇧🧷👍🏻
Was there a support band at that gig ? . As often they didn't have them eg the last 2 UK gigs 24 & 25th Dec '77 at Cromer & Huddersfield
@@andchat6241yes there wasn”t
Thanks for uploading .... i love the line "......if i could only make out the words they'd be greater "
I wanna be me they played there. One of my fave Sex Pistols tunes.Classic footage of a revolutionary 70s band with no flares.
If I could make out the words they would be greater
They were great they were great if only I could make out the words there’d be greater !
I remember when they were banned from Chicago due to spitting and swearing. I was in hs and didn't understand the logic behind that.
There was so much hype about them being different than anything you ever heard before, and when I finally heard them, I thought, "what's all the fuss? they just sound like CHEAP TRICK!"
My dad drive from Ohio to Texas because Cleveland wouldn’t let them play 😂 told me Sid was wearing a thong… could be true could be not… but the thought of it has always made me laugh
The british just look cooler and soynd cooler than Americans back then, respect both though as an Italian
No they didn't
The ramones had better swag
@@noneofyourbusiness1114 all dressed the same and every song sounds the same. Ramones are one of the most over rated bands in history, absolute bore.
@@Podders1991 that’s bullshit they’re discography is stacked
@@noneofyourbusiness1114 they had over 300 songs that were same four chords in different arrangements
Very different something to adjust to in that Day...i personally I like the presence of today...mov😊en- on...e.moon...
...if only I could make out the words , they'd be greater WoW... And the words are great
If I could only make out the words, they'd be greater..
They sound good
Hello mate hope you are ok, your a pistol man with the knowledge, cool mate hope wr can chat soon.
@@markgreet3543 Yea that would be cool
@@realsinisterminister respect allways great to hear from you👍
@@realsinisterminister hello mate, sorry if your busy do you have a big sex pistols collection?
Good short clip and did sound great!
Not saying lead singer of small faces started punk but he had a small hole in his knee jeans next gig they all did (only for few days ) .But Richard he'll never got his credit for him ripping his t shirts and spiky hair (or did Sid have it already )
The guy at 1:04 was a young Donald Trump
Good
Looks like the Pistols got Bowie's Ziggy Stardust 1973 audience at this gig. Mind you I like that generation of yanks better than all those exaggerated macho marine punk types trying to be cool that came about later. Seems only New York and London was ahead of the curve in 78, even in the uk people were still in a post glam rock phase, especially the further up north you went.
America never understood punk 😂 looks like a fancy dress party
CBGB? Lol
@@lightningthompson9640even before the New York scene with iggy pop and the mc5 in detroit. Punk was born in the states but thrived in the uk
well their punk band is the beatles ramones........nothing more to say
I would invite my American friends to ignore this gate-keeping idiot.
That was the alt scene in Atlanta
Looks like David Arquette at 0:13
RAMONES ! 😋
lol Noob. Those that grew up with Punk love both.
😆
Only america started pop punk then became emo
Why is Sid’s arm so stupidly long
Lol
They were such Bull Sh*t.....
Well let's just say.........none of them or anyone else for that matter is looking up footage of you..............no-mark!
😂😂😂@@realsinisterminister
Completely
@@realsinisterminister I mean.. he didn’t say they were not famous.
@@HoboTango Its not the fame its the influence they had was the important thing it was a whole culture shock
yea
Saw them in L.A. I could have done with 60 minutes less of The Bay City Rollers.
