I felt the same way, trump should have been charged for insighting an insurrection.
He could be if the supreme court would rule on his ability to have absolute immunity!! That should be a no-brainer! If nobody is above the law, that should include Trump!!

I am an American...and it boggles my mind. I have a friend who says he is viting for trump because he likes how he shakes things up. I am pretty sure that he listens to Fox...so he does not hear the truth about this man-mutant that is trump. If all the others would stand up against him...he would be out. The problem is that those supporting him in government see tow the line so that they might have a future. Instead of standing up for good...they stand for whatever will keep them paid. I'm 71 years old. Been in the army through Vietnam and since I got out, I've never, needed a gun. And I've always lived in mid to working class neighborhoods. Sure, crimes happen in my area. And I have 0 saying a person that feels the need to have a gun in your home for protection of your family. But no-one needs an AR-15, or any assault rifle type weapon as home protection. And as for open carry. Come on, this ain't 1850 Dodge City. There's a cop on every corner. Use your cell that you carry constantly and hit 911.

The four months is just for not showing up when subpoenaed by congress. (Peter Navarro is currently doing the same amount of time for the same crime). B.S. Bannon may still do time for his part in the insurrection and also for his "we build the wall" scam.(He was pardoned by Traitor tRump federally, but New York state is still planning to charge him at a state level).
I am an American living abroad, and I have to say that we have the same opporunities that Americans have. I am completely happy where I am, although we have our problems, we are not living in fear and I think for me, being able to live without fear, is vital. I hope that the US will live up to what I learned as a child about it, but as of late I am not seeing a light at the end of this very dark tunnel. The only light I see is a huge democratic win in November so that the country can actually turn itself around. As of right now, the country is seen as a banana republic that allows a convicted criminal to run for the presidency.

I'm just a couple of minutes in, and I agree 💯 that trump should have faced swift judgement for the insurrection. All of the people who participated should have faced justice by now. I sincerely hope they aren't finished rounding them up. It galls me that Ginny Thomas hasn't had a single charge against her for her participation. I don't care if her husband is a supreme court justice; she should be prosecuted. And Thomas shouldn't be on the supreme Court.

The fight has already been fixed and tipped in Trump's favor. Because if he goes down, Trump will start talking. Trump, it's reasonable to believe, has dirty laundry that implicates Republican leadership and others in government and media (classified documents), as well as kompromat provided to him by the Russians. Furthermore, Trump has been, and will always be, a puppet of moneyed interests (domestic and foreign) that engaged in criminal activity to help make him president the first time.
Trump has no scruples. He's an animal driven by his insatiable appetite with no self-control. He's a pig; a thief, rapist and murderer. He has no feeling towards others, except what he can take from them. He precisely fits the profile of the monster that billionaires, corporate oligarchs, and dictators want at their beck and call, commanding the mightiest military in the history of the world.
As long as Trump gets his big lick, screw everyone else, including democracy and America itself. He's perfectly happy to allow America to become a client state of whomever or whatever provides him with personal wealth and comfort. Trump doesn't care about who or what suffers in the process, and neither do his supporters or his enablers.
They are all monsters. It's called the Republican Party, and assisting in its capture of America by supporting ratf*k spoiler candidates, such as Cornel West, Jill Stein, RFK Jr., No Labels, or even Liz Cheney, if she ultimately decides to run for president of the United States, will only harm President Biden's reelection effort, and threaten American national security and democracies around the world.

I am a fifth generation American, moved to Australia and I am frightened to even visit the US. I have three daughters, all with bodily autonomy, no guns here (stabbings yes but you hear about it, not a daily occurrence), national health insurance, subsidized medications, all my kids went to great unis, will pay back loans as they work. Reasonable pay and respect for cultural and all types of diversity. As a Jew, life is great here but antisemitism is a growing problem except on campuses. I love America so much and thanked God for Biden and cried tears of joy at his inauguration but I wish I still thought it is a great country😭🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Sad, I’m Australian with family in US so used to visit regularly…left the 7th Nov 2016, won’t go back just yet but my grown kids have - grands kids thought a Trump parade in Texas was a pageant but it’s prob ok as long as you avoid politics at all costs, don’t get sick(without insurance), don’t go to shopping centres or schools (too many shootings) - ok I’ll wait a while longer but sincerely wish America would clean its act up…
The US isn't "lawless". Its just that there are two standards on how the laws are applied. The rich are rarely held to the letter of the law, while the less than rich have just enough money to give to lawyers to maybe keep themselves out of prison. The rest simply fold, accept their fate, and go do time in prison.

@georgemacleod9808 , I do not understand what you are trying to say. As I understood it, Eisenhower rolled in on a wave of post-war hero worship. And he refused to accept a 3rd term, despite very heavy pressure to do so. Nixon thought that he had a wrap, but miscalculated the support that could be expected without Ike's endorsement.
This is a fact, it especially affects marginalized groups.

You certainly have a wider scope of vision than people such as I, who have never lived anywhere else except in the United States. You have a greater perspective, since you have lived in England and visited a lot of countries in Europe. Time to increase the size of the Supreme Court
Harry, from my perspective democracy can only survive in democratic socialist countries like Norway (world's freest press), Iceland, New Zealand, Finland and several others where the government fears the voters and corporate greed is held in check. The USA is 42nd in press freedom, 34th in infant mortality and is the richest in the world where 34 million children go to bed hungry every night and we've abandoned several million homeless etc. Critical issues supported by 70-90% of voters are systematically ignored by both sides of the aisle. Social democracy.. the Baltic countries have it stitched up followed by New Zealand & Australia & Canada (‘ruled’ by a monarch who has nothing to do with running the country). Yet USA is a ‘flawed’ democracy due in part to the electoral college…& a certain candidate wants to be ‘king’ with total immunity? Upside down logic. And for those in the back yes, USA is ALSO a republic as well as a democracy.

As a dual NZ/Australian citizen and traveller to many countries it just floors me still when I hear an American boldly state that the USA is the greatest country in the world. No doubt the US is an interesting country, has dominated the world economically and politically for many years. Has many wonderful people but your record with gun violence, especially against children, the violence and cruelty towards trans and LGBTQI, the rolling back of abortion rights and womens bodily autonomy, the inability of so many tens of millions of people unable to earn a living wage. The lack of universal health care, paid parental leave, the ongoing rise of the extreme right, the corruption of your Supreme Court, etc etc truly negate Mr Litmans proud proclamation that the US is the greatest.
As A US citizen I can tell you first hand America is absolutely not the greatest country in the world for exactly the reasons you state. Not even close anymore. Corporations, Conservatives, MAGA Republicans and Trump have turned us into the laughing stock of the world. I really don't think we will survive if Trump somehow manages to win. He does not have the majority , but they are taking away our democracy now so apparently even that doesn't matter anymore anyway. Most of us are really really scared.

I'll give you my opinion. I think this country is not all it's cracked up to be. Not only is most of the U.S. a cultural vacuum, we are losing our rights and the little bits of democracy we still have. Power has already halfway been consolidated by the Republicans. We're a witness to history, the country which couldn't shut up about being the greatest democracy in the world -which honestly I always found distasteful, who walks around saying "I'm the best, the best the world has ever seen"-anyway, the U.S. has been shown up to have a poor construction with flaws which allow its own dismantling. the SC has the last word and they are lifetime appointments so we're screwed.

It’s like this in the U.S. Unlike all the women in my family who have died of cancer. I am a single mother of two. I will not go through chemo if I get cancer with only to live a little longer. I will die just to leave my children with something other than … That is what the richest country in the world does to the working class who made them so great.

Our health care system isn’t perfect (I’d know being able to check every minority/diversity checkbox and being a young vet with devastating neuro injuries 🦽), there’s dozens of ways to fall thru the cracks of every system. (Most frustrating is knowing they exist but re just inaccessible to you, but others get the kitchen sink, for no fault of your own)…but at least it doesn’t bankrupt or outright leave us to die. In every other sane, developed, educated country, medical care is a human right. I hope that some day, healthcare is codified into law as a human right in the US! It’s way past time. Unfortunately, catastrophic injuries (🦽) in my mid 20s effectively robbed me of having kids (probably for the best, I’ve raised a couple other guys kids though). But that leaves ,e dying in mid 30s with well no family. Probably best of not subjecting kids to this anyway. It’s a shame. All countries equally fail their veterans. It seems as if recent Ukraine vets get better rehab I ever got in 2015. I got little, fell thru the cracks. Yet I persevered, learning to be independent on my own, without a single person to help. Life threatening infections and all. Ah, enough biatching from me 😂 I guess hang in there ❤ you’re not alone!

The American jury system and trial procedure are excellent (compared to the UK anyway), but the way judges and the unaccountable SCOTUS are appointed is just horrifying.

You mean there is no need to enlarge the court (SCOTUS). You ignore that the court is already packed with a corrupt antidemocratic majority. You imagine that the current corrupt antidemocratic majority will gradually be reduced and eliminated by death, retirement, and the appointment of better justices by virtuous presidents and senators. You ignore the damage to democracy, personal freedom, and business regulation that the current corrupt antidemocratic majority will meanwhile continue to do. I am posting from Australia and would like to comment on gun crime. In Tasmania in 1996 we had a mass murder by the name of Port Arthur in which 37 people died and many injured. After that incident our Prime Minister had the balls to call for a gun buy back amnesty no questions asked and also banned automatic and semi automatic guns in our country. We haven't had a mass murder by gun violence like that since back then. We have had a couple of police murdered but I'm talking as in mass murder.
