    Love my B10s and A1 -- bought the two B10 less than 3 weeks before the plus appeared and an A1 less than a week before the 1X appeared LOL. About to buy a plus so expect a new product in days :) One thing, the adapter knob is annoying to tighten and un tighten both because of its too small size and difficulty in getting grip. Thanks for the video.

    Thank you guys in helping me decide on which light to choose. I can only afford one light. I have photogenic lights in my studio and will keep them. I do like the B1X because I can trip the other lights with pocket wizards so B1X is my choice. Thanks so much.

    Hi Anders, referring to your comment regarding modifier size limits for the B10 line, with 4ft Octa being the largest that you'd recommend; I have a 5ft Octa and a B10 - is it due to the weight of the 5ft Octa that you do not recommend the pairing...?

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      Yes, they are made for the OCF line of modifiers. The light stand adapter will not carry the weight of the largest modifiers. You need a B1X or higher for those modifiers.

    • @jermainekelly924
      @jermainekelly924 5 років тому +1

      Thanks @@hannola I appreciate you taking the time to reply, that's very interesting; so although they are made for the OCF line, I can still use RFI modifiers also, but up to 4ft, correct? Final question tonight (I promise), how does a octabox compare with a Deep umbrella of similar size with diffusion, is the umbrella harder light than the octabox or are they equally as soft?

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      @@jermainekelly924 Yes you can use RFI modifiers up to 4ft. The big difference is that you have more control over where the light hits with a softbox thanks to the recessed front. An umbrella's light spread is almost 180 degrees so light will bounce of walls so your contrast will be lower. There's no difference in the softness if the size is equal on the umbrella and the octabox.

    I'm wondering why Profoto is not consistent in their User Manual template. Sometimes you have such data like 77deg reflector for B1x, but it is not mentioned 68deg on B10 UM. The same goes for other products like B1 vs B1x vs D2 vs B10 and so on...
    BTW: In lates UM for B10Plus you have skipped 4Ws power on page 33, or maybe there is that significant jump in power.

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      B1, B1X, B2, D1 & D2 have 77deg. B10 and B10 Plus have 68deg. The page 33 looks like a typo :-O I will look into that and inform the right person at Profoto. Thanks and good catch!

    Considering buying 3 new B10 Plus or 2 x B10 & 1 x B10 Plus. Does anyone know if the battery life of the B10 Plus set to power level 9 (250 watts) is the same as the B10’s set to power level 10 (250 watts) which is 400 shots?

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      Yes it is.

    Hello, how many flashes can you get out of the b10 and b10 plus before you tend to have to turn them in for service?

    • @profoto
      @profoto  4 роки тому +1

      It all depends on how frequently you use it and how you use it. Shooting 3000 images per day with HSS will wear harder on the flashtube compared with the usage that a portrait photographer has. If you have shoots with sand, small particles in the air or high humidity, you might shorten the time until next service. Personally I've used my B1s frequently for five years with no service calls. I also have a Pro-1 from 1968 that has never been in for service besides myself changing the flashtube. There are no moving parts in a flash like mirror in a camera that wears out. The flashtube does wear out but there are no standards on how to measure how many flashes it lasts for since it depends on how it's used. A very vague answer but it could be 50 years or 3 days.

    With that treadmill shot; would that be able to be done with all b10’s?

    • @profoto
      @profoto  4 роки тому +1

      You could create a similar image but not exactly the same due to the unique characteristics of the strip lights and the light modifiers.

    • @MrDro1128
      @MrDro1128 4 роки тому

      Profoto thank you. I should clarify by following up and asking if the B10 would be able to replace the lights being used in that session, attached to the same light modifiers? Would the power output be sufficient?

    • @profoto
      @profoto  4 роки тому +1

      @@MrDro1128 The power output is enough but Andrea used the Profoto Strip lights (with 2-3 flashes inside) which have a very even output across the whole length. These could be replaced by Strip softboxes but you will have a slight variation in output if you compare the center point vs the top or bottom of the softbox.

    • @MrDro1128
      @MrDro1128 4 роки тому

      Profoto thank you for the insight. I really appreciate it! I haven’t seen many, if at all any videos talking about raising iso a stop to make the b10’s match the b10+’s output. In today’s cameras, does having iso just a stop or 2 higher then the base iso show a difference when in review?

    • @profoto
      @profoto  4 роки тому +1

      @@MrDro1128 You are absolutely right. You can easily raise the ISO one stop to match the B10 Plus but keep in mind that with ISO you impact the whole image and not only the lit part. The increase in ISO will not impact the image quality considering that most modern cameras handle higher ISOs very well.

    Give the B1X a firmware to modify the color temperature of the modeling light (with the control knob) and/or to perhaps tie in functionality with the app. In the future, make a new battery and charger with pass through, breathing new life into an already great product. Users will buy the new battery and charger combo.

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      You would have to change the hardware to do that. The LED would have to be changed and Bluetooth would have to be installed in the B1X by service engineers so I would be surprised if that would be done. I need to investigate further on the battery. That's a feature I would love to have on my B1X's as well.

    • @Mainwong
      @Mainwong 5 років тому

      B1 uses the same firmware as b1x. That will be the greatest news If it really happens. All i need is just white modelling light on b1 so i can use them as interview lights and so on..

    These OCF softboxs are absolutely horrible. I just bought my first Profoto lights that I’ve been saving for over a year (B10 Kit) with two 2X3 softboxs. In the first two weeks if use one of the rods bent, the tip fell off of another rod, and the end of one rod went right through the material in the corner that is not reinforced. Very disappointed. I came from Paul C Buff lights used those modifiers on a daily basis and never had one issue.

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      I've used my 2x3 OCF softboxes on a daily basis for three years and never had any problems at all. I shoot on location and abuse my equipment a lot. You might have been unlucky and need do a warranty claim.

    • @WashDCWill
      @WashDCWill 5 років тому

      You should probably read the reviews on B&H. I am not the only photographer having these issues. And just for fun read the reviews on the new OCF speed ring. I’ve never seen more one star reviews on a product.

    • @hannola
      @hannola 5 років тому

      @@WashDCWill Sorry, I missunderstood you. I thought you had issues with the rods and the material of the softbox. My OCF speedrings are also the originals that I bought over three years ago. I must have been lucky and got really good examples. Again, if you have received a defect product, you should make a warranty claim and get new product.

    • @WashDCWill
      @WashDCWill 5 років тому

      I had issues with both. Again, I don’t think that I am unlucky as there are lots of negative reviews about both products on B&H’s site. I’m sure Profoto thanks you for coming to their rescue but I’m thinking they’re going to be a lot more negative reviews about this product in the future. Trust me I was hoping for something a lot different when I bought my first Profoto gear. Thanks for your input. (no need for warranty return I’ve sent them back to B&H)

    The battery failed to charge I could never use it and all my money was wasted.
