Absolutely respect your decision and kinda wish I hadn't folded with the "you need a second bunny" pressure. My older Holland lop, Pailsey, is 5 years old and has seriously been the most perfect bunny. I had him fixed early and he has never marked and always used a litter box without any error. He would follow us to bed when we would head to our bedroom, and sleep behind the bedroom chair. He would hop up on the bed in the morning if we were being lazy to get pets and let us know he was ready for breakfast. Then a year ago, after our family dog passed, we were worried he might get depressed. So I got a baby girl Holland Lop after a ton of research to add a new Bun. Now do not get me wrong, it did work! Paisley and Hyacinth are completely bonded and in love. BUT, I miss my relationship with Paisley. It is different now that they are bonded and I miss that I was his person. They are precious together 🐰🐰 But we will stick with one next time.

That's what my experience was as well after we got a friend for our first. We had a single bun the first year. She would play games with us and hop up onto where we were bed, couch etc. After we adopted a second bun and they bonded they liked each other's company more than ours. They still interacted with us but not the games she used to play.
If you have a bunch of time to love and play with a single bun they are usually content.

I actually never fully succeeded in getting my bun a partner due to not finding a match despite several tries. I always felt bad for her that she didn't have a bunny friend. However you're right, bunnies can be very bonded to their owners and we were pretty much best friends and spent so much time together. Your video reminded me of that strong bond and that maybe she wasn't as lonely as I thought 💜

I want to thank you for saving my buns life. At 9 mons old she had GI stasis, because I follow your advice on everything, I make it a point to watch her eating and check her poop. I was able to see the signs and got her to the Vet, she was hospitalized for 3 nights 💔. She is now 2 and does have a husbun inseparable but I absolutely agree, they can share that bond with you if you have the time. God bless your beautiful, happy, healthy, family of 3 🙏🏼.

I'm a bun Mom of 6! (my daughters kept rescuings poorly treated buns because they know I'm a marshmallow and couldn't handle the thought of a bun out there needing help.) To say we are nonstop with daily cleaning, feeding, playtime, vet visits, and so much more is an understatement, but I wouldn't give up one of my buns! They all have different personalities and have bonded with their partner. All are fixed and potty trained, so that helps tremendously. I'm also a work-from-home bun mom and wouldn't be able to handle my beautiful chaos if I worked outside of the home. This is my choice, and you are spot on with yours! You know what is best for your beautiful family. Nobody has the right to judge, and from what I have read, nobody has. We still have great people in this world! Side Note: I own 5 air purifiers, 2 Dyson vacuums, 6 pura, and my deck looks like the oxbow section of your local pet store, LOL. This is how I keep my sanity :D. Have a great week, and we all send our love to your home from ours!

I loved this!!! If anyone is truly rude in the comments and rants they are going to be more than less immature. I agree that if you don’t have the time or at home a ton it does help to have another bun. Yet if your home more or when you are getting home and spend time with them that is super special to your bun for that attention. When we are out and about we have two dogs and two cats that adore our little Ollie. He will run with them play on the cat tubes with them. It helps him bond with them as well. We homeschool so we are home most often times than none.
    Thanks for sharing!!!! ❤❤❤

Thank you for this vid! I got my bun Mobi during covid when I was working from home full time (over 2 years ago). He has his own room and free roams whenever I am home and can supervise. However, the majority of his day is now spent alone, and I worry he is getting depressed. There are definitely pros and cons to getting another bun (potential bad habits, more hay, which I'm allergic to), but I think this is something I want to explore with my local rescue ❤

  • @tehlaziness

Honestly, I don't understand why people would hate on you for deciding not to get a second bunny. The best case scenario is everything works out great and the bunnies form a strong bond easily. But introducing a second bunny can be incredibly stressful on everyone; especially if you buy a baby. Bonding is difficult, and its harder when the first bunny is a female because they're much more territorial than males. Bonding can take months, and sometimes never be successful, and until the bunnies are bonded they need to be kept separate and together time must be supervised. If you buy a baby, you have the added challenge of keeping them separate until the baby can be neutered and all of their mating hormones dissipate. I've had 2 bunnies for about 5 years and I've done bonding twice. While I think it has been worth it, I also completely understand where you're coming from. Especially seeing as you and your husband also work from home. I will also say though, keep your mind open on a second bunny. No matter how much you and your husband love CInnabun and shower her with love and attention, neither of you will ever be a rabbit. Just as though a rabbit can be a great companion animal, they can never take the place of human companions.
I'd also say, don't get another holland if you do decide to get a second. I have one too; they're a great breed and I love my princess to death, but hollands are prone to health issues. Lilac has a lot of the same problems as Cinnabun and she's been more work than both of the polishes I've had combined. You'll probably have an easier time with a more versatile breed like a netherland, a dutch or a polish
Don't worry too much about age either. When I got Lilac, she was like 10 weeks old and Pepper was 7 years and he took to her pretty quickly.

I m glad you made the video and being so honest with us. Every bun is different and just like humans, some may actually prefer solo if they have a lovin hoomin. I never quite understand those intolerant harangues about having bunnies bonded. That might be for the majority, but there is also diversity. I have two bunnies living side to side with each other and they are doing perfectly fine.

I have 2 male rabbits, 2 large dogs and a sweet blind possum. All rescues - never buy from a breeder please! The dogs love the bunnies but my boys hate each other. So I divided the house for them. I’m considering adopting 2 females for them and have 8 pets. I am the happiest when I have animals around and I have a great system to keep the house spotless. On the other side, I want to move back to Europe where I’m from but the bunnies are the only ones keeping me in the US.

It's amazing I subscribed to your channel but I just had your video pop up in my feed and it is exactly what I've been going through with my bunny Lucy. She is 3, and she free roams our home and I have been working from home since we rescued her. I potty trained her and raised her from only a few weeks old so I want the best for her. She has also had a lot of stasis issues and after sometime we discovered it was down to her teeth. She has bad periodontal disease along with spurs on her teeth that we have needed to have shaved down every 6 weeks. In my heart I want to have a friend for her, but she will soon need to have the entire left side teeth removed. She is super happy bunny that gets so much love and attention from both myself and my partner, and with her health issues I'm afraid not only can I not handle raising another rabbit, but the expense is so high taking care of her that I would not be able to afford any emergency issues with another rabbit. Luckily my partner and give her focused attention for several hours a day she is really the focus of our lives. So I definitely understand your situation thank you so much for posting this video has not only can I relate but I can sympathize and empathize with your situation. All the best, Meg from Florida🙏🐇💗

I started out with two bun's. They were adorable and very close. They never got close to me, however. I recently gave my sweet Netherland Dwarf away to a friend's grandson. Suddenly, my Lop jumps up on my bed and will allow me to pet him as long as my arm hold out. As long as I let him come to me. He is my alarm clock, he jumps up, gives me kisses until I start loving on him. He used to just thump until I gave him his breakfast, not aggressively, just enough to let me know it was time. I miss my little pearl, but I am really enjoying my newfound close relationship with Sir Spectacular, aka Spec.

cinnabun seems so happy and lovely, which shows that she is already receiving so much love from her bun pawrents and proves that not all bunnies need to be paired!
i adopted my rabbit, blossom back in february. however, since she is alone for a few hours every day, we decided to look at adopting a partner for her(although she is always with someone when we are home). i am actually quite worried about bonding/her not liking or getting along with another rabbit. the last thing i want to do is give up a bunny to the rescue centre. yet i do think it will be the best option for blossom, since i don't want any depression or loneliness developing whilst she is alone.
thanks for all of the advice which you give in all of your videos! 🤍

I am in a similar boat with you. I do work outside the house (I’m a teacher), and some days I feel like Chester needs a friend, but he has significant GI health issues. He goes into stasis every couple of weeks, vet trips are extremely expensive, and I selfishly don’t want to risk another rabbit upsetting the balance my vet and I have found with his health. I already stress so much about Chester’s health. It helps to see we are not alone!

Just love these videos, I’m not a bunny owner but have had an interest in it at this stage. Watching these kind of vlogs is an education for me.
As someone who has owned cats and dogs. That has been a huge commitment both financially and emotionally. But you also need to consider the impact on the resident animals when adding to the family dynamic.
That alone could impact everything from behaviour to health of any resident animal who has the full attention of their human parents.
Unfortunately I lost my two fur babies this year. So who knows what the next chapter will bring but I do miss them desperately.

He sleeps most of the day and when I am home he gets the whole living room for himself and hangs out with me for hours.
He had a friend but she died two years ago. He was only upset for tree days and has been enjoying being a single guy ever since.
I have been feeling bad about him being alone for so long now . But for financial reasons and him triving on his own I decided to keep it like this.
Also finding a rabbit his age is really hard . He is almost 9...

I absolutely agree. I have one bunny and he's 6. I'm sure he doesn't even remember how another rabbit looks. He acts more like a cat and he hates other animals. The only other animal he truly loves is my mum's dog, because she let's him chase her and she loves to cuddle with him (always supervised, but I trust her enough that I know she will never hurt him) and he hates any other animal he ever encountered. We also live in one bedroom apartment and there's no possibility of dividing the apartment in half to bring another rabbit, because he has access everywhere, even to the bathroom. But I'm always at home, we don't spend vacation anywhere other than our apartment or my mum's home (that is half an hour drive so we come back everyday) so he's almost never alone and he has a lot of attention. I also still feel very discouraged, because 3 years ago when he was still youngling I wanted to adopt bunny from shelter but they said no because they didn't believe me that my bun's huge cage is only home base and they said that because he had supervised time on bunny proofed balcony I'm irresponsible. So it's not even that easy in some countries to adopt bunnies. And while that's okay because it means buns are safe it also means that there's higher chance that they will never find good homes.

But with a lot of time and affection he did get over her loss. I would have loved to get another bun for him, but I knew he could no longer adjust to having another bunny in the picture. He is too attached to me to share me. Everyone has different situations, and some buns, with a lot of care CAN live with just their human parents. My bun was a single rabbit for over a year before we got him a friend. And the reason for getting him a friend was because my health issues where getting better and I wanted to be able to leave the house without feeling guilty of Marshal being lonely. In the 2 years since we got Filbert, both buns are happy and love each other, I work from home still so I spend lots of time with them and love the binkies and kisses I get while working from my home office.
If my health stayed as it was and I didn't go out much, I would have not gotten the second bun cause Marshal was more then happy as a single bun with his kitty brothers, My husband, and myself.

I have a question about lop's ears. I have heard that lop's can go deaf. My 3 year old lop's ears are very curled in. Is there something I should be doing to reverse/slow this process?

Question: For baby bunnies, is it possible to get them to poop all the time in their litter box? Or is the territorial pooping basically unavoidable?

My husband and I are in your same boat. I work from home and 24/7 I'm with my free roaming bun. He even goes shopping with us 😂 but I'm still getting him a sister only bc I want a big bunny-safe calm dog (Great Pyrenees) and I'd want the sister to be his moral support 😅 A little advice, pellets are the #1 cause of GI stasis bc its tends to slow down the digestion process since they move through the system slower than natural foods like hay and veggies. So I'd cut that out immediately. And also I've been told introducing a baby to an adult is oftentimes unsafe for the baby who often gets bullied. 😨

Hi! I have a one year old rabbit, but I think he might be getting lonely. He lives in a pretty large cage attached to a play pen. I let him run around most of the day also. But I don’t know if I need a bigger cage to get another. Anyone have any ideas?? 💕💕

Naturally you're correct that rabbits are herd animals and such, but it's your life and you know what's best for your animal. But what some people also may not realise is that bonding rabbits isn't just a matter of bring home a new rabbit and voila. There's a huge process to go with it!
This video sounds like you are wanting to be able to put your full attention on Cinnabun . there is NOTHING wrong with that !!!

I have six rabbits and none of them get along. Most of them were rescues so they can be more defensive anyhow. I spend time with each of them and rotate who gets floor time. They're fine just getting hooman attention.

You should only do what is right for you we have our adorable marshmallow and we rescued a partner for her and we only had fudge for a exactly a year and we then have had to debate whether to get another we have in the end rescued Oreo as the lady had just had a baby and was finding it hard to give the rabbit all the attention it deserved so taking on a rabbit is not an easy decision and are so much fun but also it has taken us a long while to bond as my daughter is artistic and likes to make sure everything is exactly right and seeing them fighting was not nice we had them professionally bonded they are free roaming which we see as good as people don’t see the lovely intelligent thing rabbits
Are and we love watching you and your lovely family

I have a single four year old bunny called Biscoff. He free roams my bedroom and loves sleeping on my bed and licking my face. He’s very bonded to me. His partner sadly passed away. I’m not allowed a second bunny but I’m afraid my new job will make him lonely😔🥺

Every rabbit owner should know that rabbits should NEVER live alone! This is absolutely important basic knowledge. Rabbits who live alone become depressed and imagine yours Having to live your entire life alone. You can talk your way out of it as long as you want, but it doesn't change the fact that this rabbit shouldn't be allowed to live alone, no matter how well he is doing. You are not a Replacement for your rabbit.

A human can never fulfill a bunny’s social needs fully. Can you image how lonely you’d be if you could only be with another species and never spend time with another human again?

People adopt animals in order to save lives. You bought Cinnabun while you could have adopted a rabbit who needed a home. While you are free to do whatever you want, it also brings forth the fact that you are a selfish person. There are so many animals waiting in shelters and in danger of being killed for lack of space especially cats and dogs.

I completely understand, support and respect your decision.
I had the same choice. I work from home and my first free roam rabbit (wonderful Mini Lop) was in contact with me all day long and did not experience boredom or lack of communication. Now there are two of them, and I can compare the pros and cons. It is more difficult to train and educate them, to maintain order, to monitor their health, they teach each other bad things :))). We had to go through a stressful bonding period. On the other hand, the eldest began to move more, wallow less, they are more confident, bolder and calmer in general, I can easily leave the house for the whole day, knowing that they will not be bored. But to say that the eldest has become much “happier”... not a fact. For example, despite the bond, he is more nervous when feeding occurs because he is very dominant and loves greens and treats very much. So, I think this decision is individual for each owner, their rabbit and their situation

Unrelated but um... are you comfy sharing where your necklace is from? Looks so good!!
    ____
On the issue of GI stasis, it is definitely harder to monitor having two rabbits. If their poop looks similar, its hard to determine who has used the bathroom recently, amount of hay being digested is harder to keep track of, and their constant grooming eachother makes it more likely to have a blockage.
Also, its true. You need to have a lot of capacity to bond rabbits. Sometimes it works out immediately, but you need to be prepared for it to go south. The first time I tried to bring a second rabbit home, I was not prepared for the work it took.

As someone with two bunnies, I think that you are doing what is best for you. Love how honest you were, i have seen both single and paired bunnies thrive. It all just depends on the care of the owner and Demeanor of the bunnies. You are such a great bunny owner, thank you for showing us how to care for a bunny

The pressure to get a second rabbit is REAL! My biggest reason for not wanting to get a second rabbit is fear of the bonding process. I don't have the time/energy to dedicate to that right now, and I've read all the horror stories about it not working, and we just don't have the space for a second bunny setup. I know my little man is happy, he gives me kisses and binkies all the time, and when my husband and I are away during the day for work, he has our two cats to keep him company. Admittedly, they're not all besties, but they don't mind each other, the cats have never shown any prey drive since we brought him home, and they do occasionally have moments of sweetness together.

I was fortunate enough to have a rabbit rescue locally. You go in a select your top choices and they let your bun go on dates to see which one fit. It took my Bella four to pick her guy and one that would tolerate her 🤣 but they love each other now!
I have a second set and it is tough not having all four of them bonded and overwhelming to try it myself. So they just stay separate. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to cross that bridge.
