The Christmas to New Year period is always a bit of a bummer with many cafes being closed, and some of these even extend their closures to mid-January. If I’m stopping in a service station I’m generally reaching for those pre-packaged sandwiches as they’re sealed and seem to hold their freshness pretty well.
Hey Josh, thank you as always for sharing your adventures with your friends and community! I have a question about your snacks while riding. I am traditionally of the mindset of eating as clean as possible for exercise, and get overwhelmed by the thoughts of piling on sugary treats, now that I’ve started riding in the last month. How do you know what your body needs for fuel during a ride, while making sure you are not filling your body with junk and giving your body food that it will crave more of, once you are no longer riding? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hey mate, thanks for the comment. I’ll offer what advice that I can. Timing: if you are doing a hard ride you should aim to eat about 60grams of carbs an hour. This will offset the amount being consumed by your body and you should feel energetic. For myself since I’ve ridden quite a bit im quite good at gauging when I need to intake. What to eat: easiest thing to eat on the bike is drink mix since you will always need water. You can buy any carb drink mix but people also just put white sugar and some lemon juice in their bottle. For edible stuff the most efficient is gels since it is formulated for maximum carb absorption. If you want to avoid gels though I would defs look into rice cakes or anything else carb dense. Bananas are a good option and sometimes I don’t mind a bag of lollies. All the best
Fast video turnover! Getting into same-day edits now? I was gonna say looks like a relaxing ride with a much smaller group compared to the huge one that day, but 115km is a real good amount. 16km downhill does look pretty fun though! Good thing you caught some good weather... its been crazy in Brisbane too! Did you return the Insta360 camera already? Are you gonna get one yourself? A 512GB Samsung Pro Plus microSD (the faster one) was $48 on Amazon a few weeks ago btw. Speaking of shops that are closed, I'm on a trip to Cameron Corner at the moment, entire towns along the way are closed with no restaurants or cafes open so I've been caught out too. I wish there was a woolies here haha. 2.45k with 5 days to go! Wonder what you'll end the year with!
Haha I’ve been planning to make a video for a while. It really depends on when I have time to edit. Insta360 has been returned since I’m going overseas to Vietnam and Bali soon, so letting someone else have a go of the demo model. I have a bunch of 128gb SD cards which can comfortably fit 2hours of footage but I accidentally put a 32gb card in instead! Let’s see if we can get 2.5k by end of the year :P
@@joshkwan it comes in a can, easy on the gut and gives you a carb hit. Look for it next time you're at the supermarket and give it a go, vanilla is my fav 😋 👍
Where’s that rain coming from? 😂 there was sun on the road and blue skies 😂 I like to grab a chocolate milk (lactose free) towards the end of a hard ride.. lots of sugar and good protein hit.. not nice pedalling with 600ml of milk in the tummy though
Yes, Oak lactose free chocolate milk tastes exactly the same as the normal one.. I think with amount of sugar in them you can’t tell the difference. bloody delicious, even on a hot day.

Don’t let Josh’s 16km downhill fool you - when you’re at the front, it’s ftp time….

Creamed rice is a good option, works for me.
At least you got some k's in. MXmas 🍻
Creamed rice?? I don’t think I’ve eaten that before but sounds awesome. You had me at rice.

Haha hopefully I don’t have to transport it in the can too! Sounds like a perfect snack on the long rides.

Bloody invisible rain cloud.

Noted, I’ll keep an eye out for it ;)
Good news the cafe at Pitt Town was open for business today.
Awesome! I’ll have to go there next time
4:40 I am witnessing first hand why peitian was so deep in the box during our kurnell ride today 😂
Man, total misconception - I was only strategically saving energy for the West Head ride tomorrow
