16:40 Just some extra info that isn't really publicly known that I think is relevant in my case. Interestingly, a lot of the instructions EndLevel put in his pastebin were entirely false (75% volume made no sense, nor any difference to detectability), and the "play with smooth fix on" instruction as said by End, was intentionally put there by him to catch people out since smooth fix would make it glaringly obvious that someone was speedhacking. The main innovative thing with his method was the speedhacking of certain songs (and for those with start times after 0s; you would have to engineer so the song would start going 0.5x speed at the moment the level itself begins, or at the moment you put the start pos down, because otherwise it would be completely out of sync) and speedhacking the .ogg files such as the death sound, level complete sound, and level play sound. He also said that you can't post comments after you beat a level on 0.5x speed, because it would mess up 50% of the time??? - also untrue and an unquestioned dogma relating to this method which I was able to manipulate to duck hacking accusations because "how else would I be able to post comments?". I also intentionally hacked levels that would be hard to speedhack (i.e. not short levels, or nine circles levels). I also edited in steam screenshot sounds at the level complete screen when beating levels to make it seem more legit, since while speedhacking the game and then speeding up the audio later in hitfilm, taking an actual screenshot would make steam screenshot sound in 2x speed (since it was completed in 0.5x speed, and I had to speed up the game audio). Ultimately, the thing that actually got me caught was the inconsistencies in jumps for my Zodiac completion when counting my attempts at the end, since in previously hacked levels I had done, they were all released levels that had victors already, so I could calculate the average jumps per attempt across a few victors to make it seem realistic but since Zodiac was a verification, my predicted average jumps per attempt was significantly off, which was apparent when comparing to Technical's and Mycrafted's current attempts at the time. The steam screenshot thing and the average jumps per attempt calculations were an addition to Endlevel's method from me. Additionally I think a big part to the believability of my legitimacy and how I even got that far in the first place was because I had a track record of beating 2 top 10s at the time WITH clicks, so it wasn't like I came out of nowhere either. After the whole controversy with me though, a few months later the list understandably added the click requirements in mid-2019 iirc.
75% would increase detechability if there are any pauses in the video. A user that was using 75% music volume and 50% SFX volume would instantly be suspicious, would they not?
49:51 My old username is surely hard to pronounce 🤣 I would also like to give some extra addition to the story that you might find interesting. After me and AndxArtZ stopped working at xBot, I ended up making my own bot, a solo project called TASBot (it was around the same time as beta testing of yBot that TASBot is actually getting beta tested aswell). It is the first bot that actually use frame by frame input method and I heavily took inspiration from TASing in SMB games. Other bots soon follow through but it ended up taking me months to finally release TASBot publicly due to me wanting to make the bot works perfectly and irl stuff. I ended up releasing it publicly 2 months after zBot is released.

I think Robtop's biggest mistake is not adding convenience functions and bans against hackers. Megahack is more convenient to use than official games, so everyone buys and uses it. In addition, since bans were not imposed on hackers in the early stages of the game, there was a scene where they were caught and apologized after gaining fame while using hack. Cause i used translatior, It might be incorrect. But I say definitely hackers are trash.

I feel like GD's security and exploit journey (as in the history and evolution of mostly harmless exploits) could be easily compared to the 3DS's. Upon release, you were able to use pre-existing exploits that were not originally designed with the specific thing in mind and eventually, people started learning more about the inner workings and soon enough someone made an exploit specifically designed with that thing in mind, which pretty much set everything into motion. People were able to learn from the first exploits and they just built on each other, becamoing more and more complex and improving with time, eventually becoming "the norm" because of a severe lack of updates (though in the 3DS's case, the system was dropped almost entirely as opposed to being stuck in an update with a new one in the works)
as a early fan of conix, he was exposed for hacking before vsc as in the early extreme demon megacollab verification, as he was exposed by me and another viewer for no clipping all the progress he had on the level. he later deleted the level, leaving little to no trace of the level existing
I feel like the explanation of FPS Bypass completely misses the whole point of why it's a thing. I'm a poor (not really) schmuck that can't afford to drop $600 on a 360hz monitor. I want to become good at the game. Should I be prevented from that because I don't have money? FPS Bypass levels the playing field imo. Not to mention: laptops. The highest refresh rate I've ever seen on a normal, non-gaming laptop is 120hz. I prefer playing GD on a laptop, again, should I be denied the same advantages people with thousands of dollars to spend on this game? Finally, a lot of the hardest demons (Tartarus comes to mind) are straight up impossible on 60hz.
Hey stormfly HUGE congrats on getting this video out i know youve been working on this for a LONG time so its nice to see that you were able to get it out, also this video is very well done! It was interesting to see the different methods of hacking that people have used like some of the older mobile hack apps and gd bugs, and also the clever electro auto method, was also interesting to learn about the bots too like the very old bot you showed at near the beginning and how some of the more recent bots that allow you to record the gameplay of the level in practice mode and then play it back to you without the errors (i based off of what i got from the vid i think thats one way it works anyways 😂) so yeah id say your efforts paid off! I wish you good luck for the rest of the year and hopefully none of your future projects will take you as long as this one!
@@sethdash1906 im good thanks! dont know if you remember but you commented on my acu video a while back and i recognised ur name in this comment section lol
2:43 This wasn't a bug, this was actually a feature. If you read the terms for verification in 1.0, it will explicitly state to "beat the level in normal mode or practice mode to verify the level!"
(06:15) Hello its Velocci, ahhh its been quite a while since I've played GD but i'm quite surprised to see Vega here lol! With Vega me and the people who I collabed with used the lil portal technique to transfer the save to eachother to continue the collab, basically allowed us to not instantly get tp'd to the top and allow us to just either test the parts people made or to just verify it to transfer it to other people working on the level. The glitch we basically forgot to remove when it came to verifying it, Railgunner verified the whole thing without even realising the glitch was there. Once people discovered it I was in a mad panic tryna get it sorted and patched :P Bless to Railgunner I must say, he reverified it twice after that to prove he done it all legit, then I had to get him to reverify it again to add coins. Ngl tho, the reverify of it and fix of the bug made soooo many new players send me some rather horrid dms because they wanted their free demon, which for us, was a complete accident! Vega also caused me to make like 3 spin-offs of it Vega I, Vega II and Vega Rebirth (Rebirth was yeeted) - 2 was never rated, there was a Vega III in the works but that fell short Anyways, i guess this video is like 2 seconds of fame xD Was not expecting to hear my name or Vega at all! Great video btw, very good storytelling overall, pretty much bang on with everything, reminds me of all the drama back before i stopped playing :)
I find it hilarious how the list team banned 144hz bypass over a microsecond click delay back in the day but then allowed something even more unfair with piepass, and now we have 1000's people you've never heard of beating list demon in less than 5k attempts on 360FPS, I also find it quite frankly gross how a person can cheat with piepass through bypassing to a frame rate that 99.9% of players don't even legitimately own (288, and especially 360.) and get the same amount of list points as someone on 120hz who can't, or chooses not to use piepass. It's one thing to bypass to 144, but the thing is a large quantity of players actually have 144hz, but 360hz?? I've literally never legitimately seen a player with a real 360hz monitor or even 288 for that matter.
Wow, this video is fantastic! Even though I've been modding GD myself for over a year now, this still contained a lot of info I didn't know previously. Really well-made video, huge props for finishing such a massive project!
A method I found similar to the electro method is by using invisible scale hacked gravity portals. The portal will be large enough that you can hit it without the center being onscreen, making the circle effect that portals generate also being offscreen. This can also be done with pads, but they need a much larger size for that.
It’s crazy how the community has both gone through cracking down on hackers and also embracing hacking methods as a part of the game culture as well. Having hacked some of of my biggest achievements only to praise during the 2.0 and 2.1, this video brought back some nostalgia about just the development of hacking strategies to create the most seamless gameplay videos which would hopefully look legit. The community has definitely gotten smarter in looking for these hacks, and it’s been astounding looking at both the developments of the hacks and the hackusations of several players. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Stormfly :)
another level that used the blue orb glitch was SW50ZXJzdGVsbGFy by Mazl, which was rated with it for a few days before it was fixed with Mazl claiming that "he had no idea that it existed" despite the portal for the ship being in just the right place for it to work lol this was how i "beat" my first hard demon (which i have since uncompleted)
It's always good to see you upload something, whether it be a super expert or documentary I'm always here to watch it. Again you've made another banger of a video :D
When I was younger I made an "impossible" level with really hard gameplay that I never actually tested. I used the ldm feature to remove some blocks and made a secret way, and when you go to the level on the server, the ldm button doesn't appear, at least not for me.
I love how being accused of hacking back then was not only common but also used to be the equivalent of being called a murderer but nowadays it's more common to suspect/accuse a GD player of being a ped0 than being a hacker.
I just want to say something as a quick correction, an "ACKSHUALLY" if you will; TAS stands for two things; Tool-Assisted Speedrun, OR, in Geometry Dash's case, Tool-Assisted Superplay. A speedrun is trying to get through a level as fast as possible, while a superplay is more of a "for fun" category in regards to perfect play. A TAS in a speedrun sense would be something like the majority of speedruns you see online performed by bots. A superplay would be something along the lines of, say, the videos "[TAS] Silliest" by perfectedidiot2 or "Ultra Instinct Kirby" by mug1991.
I lost my unregistered green user because of the teamhax server attack so even If I did have my old mobile device the damage was done and any levels progress etc are wiped and gone forever
57:02 I really wanted to get this bot some guy named midget made it and was available to buy, the bot was amazing because of how accurate it was, but over some drama that happened caused the creator to private the bot. Which sucks because it was 100% accurate and wouldn’t mess up the replay at all making it look extremely realistic.
This video is really nostalgic for someone like me that has been on the community since 2014, i remember the majority of this controversies and hacks, but some of them i didnt know, like i didnt know the cheating method of electro, i knew he cheated but i never knew how he did, very interesting, great video as always stormy.
Very cool video Stormy! You should do a video talking about these "scary" based levels, and why Rob don't rate, possible solutions for issues etc. Would be cool ;)
My first ever demon was relativo when it was in its free demon state and I never knew I would find it again until now. Thank you so much for helping me find it again
Amazing and super interesting breakdown! Thanks! I have to say though I really think people underestimate how infinitesimally small the advantage in input lag one will recieve by running gd in 480fps vs 360fps. Especially on a monitor that cannot display those fps values anyway. It's going to be a very tiny difference! It could still help on these insane extremes I suppose but the difference would be minimal
Your FPS bypass bit a bit confusing, it feels like youre trying to argue against it, which is obviously ridiculous, and the reasoning "its technically an exploit" falls flat on its face afterwards.
TeamHax: Hey robtop, Just a warning that this exploit might be the most dangerous exploit known. So can you patch it? Robtop: I fix when I see bad TeamHax: Okay then..
After a few of you have pointed this out to me, I wanted to correct a mistake at the FPS Bypass section at 39:04 - 39:35
While I am correct in saying that a game needs a properly implemented deltaTime setup for the game to run properly, I didn't consider that GD already has this but it's more likely just not implemented properly. A friend of mine; Cvolton did describe the more likely issue of that is that the physics differences is caused by floating point inaccuracies in relation to the deltaTime variable. In short, the algorithm shown in the video is already implemented, just not properly.

I wish you good luck for the rest of the year and hopefully none of your future projects will take you as long as this one!
hello sethdash
@@jack--- hello! Hru?
@@sethdash1906 im good thanks! dont know if you remember but you commented on my acu video a while back and i recognised ur name in this comment section lol
@@jack--- yeah your name looked familiar glad you’re doing well!
One more has happened to put in... and it is one of the biggest crisis in the Modern Geometry Dash History...
It is worth noting that Mazl's Level Interstellar (the coded level name) had a secret way using the blue orb glitch at one point
I love this level so much, it makes me so happy!
I do think the camera effects can be a bit much but this is a very good level!!
i'm watching this at midnight and the bgm, dated footage, tech-looking background, obscure stories and the overall topic gives me chills
About the Empty Level Glitch, on the 2.2 started working again, but I don’t recommend using it because you probably will get banned.
I literally accidently encounter the empty level glitch in 2.2 I'm glad it was patched and only used on recent tab levels lmao
Dude the hype i get when i look down at the length and its over 30 minutes and you already know it is gonna be so interesting.
well well well
2:43 This wasn't a bug, this was actually a feature. If you read the terms for verification in 1.0, it will explicitly state to "beat the level in normal mode or practice mode to verify the level!"
(06:15) Hello its Velocci,
ahhh its been quite a while since I've played GD but i'm quite surprised to see Vega here lol!
Once people discovered it I was in a mad panic tryna get it sorted and patched :P
Bless to Railgunner I must say, he reverified it twice after that to prove he done it all legit, then I had to get him to reverify it again to add coins.
Ngl tho, the reverify of it and fix of the bug made soooo many new players send me some rather horrid dms because they wanted their free demon, which for us, was a complete accident!
Vega also caused me to make like 3 spin-offs of it Vega I, Vega II and Vega Rebirth (Rebirth was yeeted) - 2 was never rated, there was a Vega III in the works but that fell short
Anyways, i guess this video is like 2 seconds of fame xD Was not expecting to hear my name or Vega at all!
Great video btw, very good storytelling overall, pretty much bang on with everything, reminds me of all the drama back before i stopped playing :)
prediction: "at 100% speed does this look possible to you?" will be in this video
NOOOOOO 😭😭
at least he included the video though 🥺
LOL
day ruined
@@TheMuteTroll WTF LOL HI
I have huge respect for you Stormy because I can’t get myself to make a video longer than it takes to go pee.
Yo KaiGuy sup
thats awesome kaiguygd
i hate to agree with a gd shorts youtuber, but that is so true
Could only wonder why I'm getting this im my recommended now
Time to add another to the roster😅
HJfod here 😳😳😳
A method I found similar to the electro method is by using invisible scale hacked gravity portals. The portal will be large enough that you can hit it without the center being onscreen, making the circle effect that portals generate also being offscreen. This can also be done with pads, but they need a much larger size for that.
Correction 57:04
Obot used to be public last year, but it went private due to some drama with vernam. It’s still widely used, though
Yeah I wish I could’ve gotten it but I was away from gd at the time so I didn’t know about it
Annabans last message was genuinely heartwarming
One of the most in depth and interesting gd documentary style videos I've seen, nice work!
This is a great video, i can tell you have done an equally great job as on your GD bugs video, amazing job !!
Amazing work dude, your videos make GD seem so interesting
It’s crazy how the community has both gone through cracking down on hackers and also embracing hacking methods as a part of the game culture as well. Having hacked some of of my biggest achievements only to praise during the 2.0 and 2.1, this video brought back some nostalgia about just the development of hacking strategies to create the most seamless gameplay videos which would hopefully look legit. The community has definitely gotten smarter in looking for these hacks, and it’s been astounding looking at both the developments of the hacks and the hackusations of several players. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Stormfly :)
6:55 I never knew that the cude Dorabae is using is in the game. I haven’t seen anybody use it before 💀
another level that used the blue orb glitch was SW50ZXJzdGVsbGFy by Mazl, which was rated with it for a few days before it was fixed with Mazl claiming that "he had no idea that it existed" despite the portal for the ship being in just the right place for it to work lol
this was how i "beat" my first hard demon (which i have since uncompleted)
Amazing video Stormfly :)
Ayyyy its cob
words can never express my great appreciation to your great efforts and whoever helps you in ur very technical detailed historic videos
The fact that the empty level glitch returned with 2.2 LOL
dude, i started watching you a little while ago and you have definitely made the best GD documentaries i have ever watched🥇
57:45 oh yeah? What about oceanUSA?
57:34 so, enter spaceuk
An hour-long Stormfly video? Let’s go.
It's always good to see you upload something, whether it be a super expert or documentary I'm always here to watch it. Again you've made another banger of a video :D
When I was younger I made an "impossible" level with really hard gameplay that I never actually tested. I used the ldm feature to remove some blocks and made a secret way, and when you go to the level on the server, the ldm button doesn't appear, at least not for me.
in gd and other games that arnt really speedrunable TAS stands for "Tool Assisted Superplay".
New stormfly video can't wait to watch this when I get home 🙏
I've been working on a demon level the last 3 days, this actually gives a lot fo advice about demons and levels in general, so thank for the tips!
I love how being accused of hacking back then was not only common but also used to be the equivalent of being called a murderer but nowadays it's more common to suspect/accuse a GD player of being a ped0 than being a hacker.
Silent Clubstep got verified...
7:50 listen closley, you can hear whispering??
I just want to say something as a quick correction, an "ACKSHUALLY" if you will;
TAS stands for two things; Tool-Assisted Speedrun, OR, in Geometry Dash's case, Tool-Assisted Superplay. A speedrun is trying to get through a level as fast as possible, while a superplay is more of a "for fun" category in regards to perfect play. A TAS in a speedrun sense would be something like the majority of speedruns you see online performed by bots. A superplay would be something along the lines of, say, the videos "[TAS] Silliest" by perfectedidiot2 or "Ultra Instinct Kirby" by mug1991.
this is such a good video and it really shows how much you care about your channel and videos! thanks for making such detailed and interesting videos!
Robtop's laziness surely produces the most interesting and funniest results. No other developer would allow this to happen. :)
Your documentary-like videos are very entertaining and interesting to watch, with this one being no exception.
I forgot about the empty level glitch being back with 2.2 and spent 3 hours beating every map pack with it while I still had the chance
I lost my unregistered green user because of the teamhax server attack
so even If I did have my old mobile device the damage was done and any levels progress etc are wiped and gone forever
Sorry for you bro
you know theres alot of hacking when the video is- OH MY GOD 59 MINUTES?
the transitions between each topic gives me those uncanny vibes
Absolute heater vid, thanks for putting this all into one
this was a wave of memories about all those hacking scandals and exposals over the years
May need an update now lol
I love your channel dude, keep up the good work
57:02 I really wanted to get this bot some guy named midget made it and was available to buy, the bot was amazing because of how accurate it was, but over some drama that happened caused the creator to private the bot.
Thank you so much for helping me find it again
this video truly shows that certain people go to unspoken lengths against other people just over a simple game, really well made video stormfly :D

This was a pretty entertaining video and pretty information there were many different hacks, methods and bots I never heard of before
I just can't imagine myself playing without practice music hack. It's just normal now.
Great video as always. It's interesting to see how people were able to get away with cheating
You need to add SpaceUK now
Your FPS bypass bit a bit confusing, it feels like youre trying to argue against it, which is obviously ridiculous, and the reasoning "its technically an exploit" falls flat on its face afterwards.
I find it really eerie that i was actually seeing the teamhax at the time it actually happened. Wow
I hope some good player doesn’t abuse the use of a bot, oh wait
I’m hoping that 2.2 is actually released some day and then Mega Hack v7.(2.2) come out for 2.2 only
very surprised you didnt mention ACB or other clickbots
TeamHax: Hey robtop, Just a warning that this exploit might be the most dangerous exploit known. So can you patch it?
Robtop: I fix when I see bad
TeamHax: Okay then..
