Hollywood: spends millions creating spectacular fights with no meaning and realism. Akademia Szermierzy: We just have skills... We show you... and you stay with the mouth opened.
Now this is the perfect balance between realism and fantasy in a sword choreography. If only the fighting in the Netflix's the Witcher are being done by you guys.
i just imagine the lord telling the conspirators that they are his best men, #2 and #3, and yet they think: "damn, wish #1 was in the office, he's better then both of us combined". and then they found #1, but also the implications of his presence, superbly done friends!
After "Last Tune in the Black Forest"... ... You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Always a pleasure to see you guys in action!
I have mixed feelings with this one. I think the coreography is 10/10 when the blades clash for 5-6 actions yet think it goes out of the board with some of the spinning around. Still the skil of the performers is, obviously, astonishing.
I doubt the person who expresses such personality dies instantly from spinning - this isn't a grappling or hand to hand combat like we've seen robots in a box far too long, and the historical reference doesn't mean freaks didn't fight in real battlefields. PEACE 😆🍀
Всі ваші попередні відео були просто чудові! Але це відео, нажаль, далеке від реалізму. Дякую. Wszystkie poprzednie filmy były po prostu cudowne! Niestety ten film jest daleki od realizmu. Dziękuję.
Some of the editing was jarring and made the movements hard to follow. Additionally, some of the choreo was way more fantasy than I’m used to from this channel. I definitely prefer the more realistic vibe you guys have had in all your previous films. That could just be me though, and there is still definitely good realistic stuff in the video. It’s just there’s a lot of other stuff too. This may just be my taste. Still, great job.
You're not alone in your sentiment. I enjoy their unique brand of content, which is the combination of authentic demonstrations of HEMA techniques and good production value narrative. This short film is a step back in comparison to their previous work as far as grounded in realism choreography (a bit much with the theatrical flourishes) but a step forward in palatability for the masses with respect to general sensibilities when it comes to medieval era close quarters combat.
From the video description: "We love to fight historically, but sometimes we also like to let our imagination run wild :)" the word SOMETIMES is key, I don't think you have to worry too much about it.
@NinjaSkyborg Totally agreed! By no means am I critical of this work. It's less my cup of tea but it's still 90%+ of what I enjoy of Akademia Szermiery. I would love to see this level of HEMA in a mainstream work of entertainment.
I knew Miko was dead the moment I saw he brought a Feder to a swordfight. 1:28. But for the most part the editing does a good job of hiding that. Great video!
What a twist! Honestly, I was expecting once he lost his sword, shield guy was going to wield the shield two handed and power bash the Renegade, stunning him. His reluctance to engage with shield or mailed fist caused his friend's demise and ultimately his own as well.
Im a writer myself of medieval historical fiction, thank you so much for giving me an idea of what a real medieval battle would have looked like, please make more videos man, this is way better than all the shit ive seen in hollywood.
Very nice and cool fencing in this little movie. However I don't like the sound effects of the swords clashing. The sounds of sword clashing in some of your previous videos sound better. Overall good video! I rewatched it even a few times.
That hook to the shield at 3:20 was crazy. I know dual swords wasn't historically a thing (other than 2 rapiers/rapier and dagger). But seeing that makes me wonder if something like that was ever pulled off. Though you might take a slash to the face but that was really cool!
Our purpose was to make it as much "fantasy-like" as it possible :) We like to experiment with swords. If you remember "Blood Feud", we had a lot of unrealistic sequences there too. For examples dozens of parry-ripostes exchanges, which doesn't happen in usual fight. However I want to calm you down - next projects will be for sure more historical :) Thank you all for your feedback, it's always important for us to know what you guys like.
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 I liked it. Even though it's not completely accurate from a historical viewpoint, it's much closer than most Hollywood productions. This should be the standard IMO.
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 Blood feud was an amazing short film which i thoroughly enjoyed, I also really liked your breakdown of all of the fiore plays. Thank you for all you do showing how better choreography is possible! Netflix should honestly hit you guys up for future witcher seasons that would be awesome!
Fun ending! Sword play seemed less authentic and more stylized than other videos. I kinda prefer the more down to earth, realistic, nitty, gritty combat sequences. Nevertheless you guys rock. Crazy talents!
What spectacular fighting! Awesome sense of storytelling through the combat. My only suggestion on creating more immersed characters from an actors standpoint would be to not shower before the shoot. The renegade hiding in the woods, and the sell-swords hunting him, probably wouldn't have used Jojoba shampoo earlier that morning 😂 so in short "More dirt!"
so this is obviously more experimental and less historically strict fight scene but honestly, I can see it work perfectly in some fantasy movie since the witcher inspiration is obvious, anyways, great job as always gents, greetings from Slovakia
Thank you very much for that great content you produce! You are really amazing and I am mind blown by what you do! Really, really awesome! I wish you all the best and I am looking forward to more exciting content! Best Regards, Jasmine
Plot twist whiplash! I thought it was going to another one of those game meme snark fests. Excellent. No hate, this is the first video I've seen from this channel
Glad you guys are willing to exercise your imagination and experiment, I won’t put you down for it. Personally, I, like most of the commenters prefer to more grounded, realistic techniques of say your fior de battaglia vids for example. Long as we get both I shan’t complain, keep up the good work guys.
The choreography is pretty good, being a good mix of realistic and over the top flashy. The story is pretty short and sweet too, with a nice little twist at the end. My only real gripe with this film is all the sword sound effects they use throughout the fight. The real fight would've been a lot quieter, but it would have made it feel more real even with some of the overly flashy moves. Good film, but the sound effects really break the immersion for me. 7/10.
Fantastyczna choreografia i egzekucja! Nurtuje mnie pytanie: czy zagarnięcie tarczy jelcem miało faktycznie zastosowanie w praktyce, czy należy ten manewr traktować z przymrużeniem oka? Niezależnie od odpowiedzi, doskonała robota :)
Well if you keep it guys in a 1/10 meaning (1 more off the grid and 9 close to realistic) fantasy ratio it's OK! !we follow you for the realism but we must respect your imagination also!!! Thanks for all your work in unison.
In my opinion, your previous works have been very solid, but even though this video has plenty of what you guys are known for, there are some noticeable elements that make the fighting scenes look less natural and exciting.
I think that was somehow the point. It's filled with the biggest tropes Holywood gets all happy about: pirouettes, dual wielding, spinning... What I find interesting in this video is the way the mix they two, fantasy anchored in treatises. Add a decent budget, good actors with competent stunt doubles, I'd be excited to see this kind of stuff as a middle ground in fantasy movies once it's refined a bit (not in historical movies tho, agreed, I will die on that hill...).

Netflix Witcher is controversial, but they have awesome fights!:) Anyway thank you very much
what makes this even more badass is that he took on both of them knowing he could beat them
