- "Fiore" is a micro-budget independent short film introducing the figure of medieval Italian fencing master Fiore dei Liberi, one of the fathers of European fencing.
The project was made possible by the coming together of a team of passionate reenactors and filmmakers, in the attempt to achieve a more historically accurate depiction of the Middle Ages in film. The medieval aesthetics and the fights have been reconstructed in accordance with the indications of experts in the respective fields, compatibly with the available budget.

Wonderful! I especially appreciate how the creation of the manuscript is shown to be a production involving many people. They were like movies in that sense, from the conception to the gathering of material, selection of the best makers and experts and finally the "post production" binding and book making. Major kudos for getting this correct!

One thing I'd like to note that I haven't seen said yet is the tune that plays during the title card. It's a late medieval secular piece from the Burgundian School called "l'Homme armé". It's just more evidence of how much thought went into this film.

Immersive beyond words. Unlike so many before you, you managed to portray this time not as a grey and distant echo of a long-gone time, but the scenery, acting and interactions made it seem like only a small change in fashion and scenery that divides society then from from ours today. Well done.

I love this short film! I actually have English translations of the surviving manuscripts of Fiore Dei Liberi, a lost European martial arts. You've done an amazing job in bringing flesh and blood to the black and white diagrams and text. We need more of your productions pronto! Grazie mille!

What a pleasant presentation! Very nice quality that shows much care and attention to detail. I love the framing, using the odd bit of color to call back to a moment in life. Wonderful work! Left me wanting more. Spotting the techniques in the fight scenes was very good fun, and I like the inclusion of scenes from several stages of Fiore's life. Full endorsement from this fiore student over in England :P

Last Thursday, I told one of my new HEMA student that Fiore's system allows you to learn to fight with any weapon : stick, tree branch... and why not a chair.
And the next day your video comes out and we see Fiore defending himself with a stool.

Wow!! This is really cool! I've been trying to write a small story that takes place in this time period in the north of Italy but finding resources and inspiration has been tough. I'll definitely be returning to this whenever I get disappointed with my slow progress, to cheer me up

Likely, the "romantic" idea of the dark Middle Ages is so rooted in pop culture that every Hollywood production simply follows along with what came before, no questions asked. And since most people's first approach to that period is through movies, it perpetuates the trend. It would take somebody brave enough to break the loop.

I never bothered on researching about Fiore, but now seeing what makes him so important, i practice his medieval martial arts with my medieval foam sword used for training and even though im not a master of his martial arts its still like a type of exercise that i like to do and others dont believe me and call me crazy, but they will never understand!!!

I love watching the videos made about Fiore. The fight scenes are clear enough, and at such a perfect pace for my eyes & brain to follow. I have to watch it several more times so I can name each of the guards and poste shown!

This just showed up in my feed this month after studying HEMA by myself in the USA. I was introduced to him through a colleague at work who happens to be from Rome! I have a copy of Fiore's book, I made my own sword out of wood, and I practice every week at a local club. It's also been a huge help in my journey losing 70 pounds. This was really inspiring to me because I not only study swordfighting, but also 3D animation. I would love to make a Fiori style swordfight one day!

This is great for fencers and nerds, but I believe Fiore's life story would be a good material for a full scale movie. I mean, way of a young talented swordsman through his training, journeys, quarrels with other masters ... all in captivating middle-ages ... We don't have much movies like that. And much of the story is not known, so there is a place for making it more thrilling for normal moviegoer. You can add some politics, love or whatever.
That would be absolutely fantastic! There is indeed so much potential for a longer format. Unfortunately, the budget for this short film was already extremely limited and we had to stretch it very thin even to make this ten minute short. To pull off a full scale film, a major studio would have to back it, and our accuracy-oriented philosophy goes drastically against the idea that most major film studios unfortunately seem to have of the Middle Ages. Still, we’d love to expand on the idea, and we are already planning more Fiore-related content. Ultimately it will depend on financial support and resources.
