I'm a professional parrot trainer and I do not think that this was the correct way to form a bond and train the bird your step ups were also not formal you shouldnt have done this in one day
noticing the birds body language i can literally see that he was not comfortable doing this
his body language was so clear and was definitely pointing towards aggression.

improve one thing.at initial always start touching from nails to belly usually bird allow then go upward..never come from head directly as its terrifying bird
put him on a stand most of the time..
btw wild bird doesnt see this calm when u open the cage they ll fly away..so which means this macaw used to be tamed initially may be 18 years back before releasing in a big cage

I have been keeping big parrots since last 22 years that time we had mostly wild caught african greys and other parrots in pakistan so we had to start exactly the same training from day one. The only one species which i found more aggressive was female eclectus, its not easy to tame them.Amomg macaws i found green wing macaws more aggressive, and blue and gold most friendly.
