The song is really great, back to the Firestorm, Enough is enough feeling....just happy to see that these guys seem to enjoy every minute that passes. It's not a debate between Smolski, Manni or anything else.....This is what they are and this is what we get....and I fucking love it.
With the "Devil strikes again" I can only said again...this is "back to the roots"...On the first listening,the chorus reminds me on chorus of "Visions" ("End of all days" album"),and the production and mastering sounds quite "freshy"....Dan Swano doing his job very well,experienced guy...and I hope the whole album,the whole story will take me back in the golden era of Rage!!!Salute and ode to Peavy and to his work!

This is Rage! In the last album they´ve tried to get the sound from the 90s, that´s a mistake! This song sounds like a past 2000. Great! Much better!

I'm a big fan of RAGE since "perfect man" in 1988 (also got a dedicated photo from Manni, Chris and of course Peavy) I couldn't stop listening to the albums from that trio. But the albums during the Smolski era were not really for me. I missed the straight, melodic power.Although Victor is a brilliant guitarist, the albums were not bad, but not really the Rage I loved. When I first listened to "the devil strikes again" I sad "yessss that's it, Peavy got the members, the new band, that can make another perfect man for me!" Macos is a great guitarist too, he makes what RAGE needs: melodic power without this Smolski-like technical orgy (although he could do it,I also play the quitar, and I know that Marcos could play far more harder stuffs too) And I really happy to hear that the new drummer, Vassilios was/is a bandmate of Chris Efthimiadis. I think that this line-up that can replace the Manni-Chris times. So keep on rocking, and make us some great albums like "perfect man" and "devil strikes again"!!!! BTW this song is great! :-)
Couldn't have said it better. The only Smolski Album I really liked was "Soundchaser", loved that one. But I do prefer the more "in your face" style when it comes to Rage. Really looking forward to the new album.

Such a tasty track! Peavy's melodic hooks with the traditional high energy riffs, it really feels like Rage is back on its prime. Even more so after all the issues the band went through after "21", hearing how good "The Devil Strikes Again" was and now this, such a joy for us fans.

Must admit I was a bit gutted when I heard that Victor had
left Rage, and especially after initially hearing 'The Devil Strikes Again'. But
on reflection I'm now very pleased with the new line-up. No-one likes change,
but once I got used to it, I now love ‘The Devil Strikes Again’ and realise
that Victor had turned the band into Victor Smolski’s Rage and wasn’t really a
true reflection of the band I first listened to on ‘Perfect Man’.
Rage now sounds like a proper band again with everyone
pulling in the same (right) direction.

These new songs are good, but when I hear them I feel the after-Victor hangover. He is definitely the best thing that happened to Rage. Apparently, he left Rage because he wanted to play symphonic metal, while Peavey wanted to stick to the good old speed metal. In my humble opinion Victor’s guitar work in Almanac sounds very backed off, because he tries to give way to the orchestras. You would expect something more flashy and technical from a virtuoso of his caliber. Almanac songs are all powerchords. Just my two cents.
Marcos is a great guitarist, Smoski for me more technician, but i like more Marcos.

Smolski's guitar pyrotechnics were a feast for the ears, this new guy is good but nowhere near that level. On the other hand, I'm really glad that trademark Peavy hooks and melodies are way more prominent than in Smolski era
I agree totally - I've been buying their albums through every incarnation since they changed their name from Avenger - and I still think the power trio in the late 80s to early 90s were unbeatable - (now playing as Refuge I believe!) although Black in Mind was a ferocious album and Unity was also superb - they can't compete with the likes of Secrets in a weird world or The Missing Link - And I do get the impression that Rage occasionally treads water despite the virtuosity of Smolski - but hey - not going to knock them. Best German thrash band ever for me.
As much as I love Victor and the Smolski/Terrana Smolski/Hilgers era of Rage, I do believe he was starting to feel sort of stagnant with the songwriting and his solos and riffs. So much so, that Almanac sounds like heavily rehashed Rage material at some point. I'm glad Peavy never stops and manages to adapt to ever new bandmate and work his best with the talents at hand.
Smolski je tipski gitarista,predvidjen da se prilagodjava i unosi novine u svoju svirku,njemu je Rage prvi veliki angazman,zato je on tu i mesao od prog do hard/power/heavy zvuka sa albuma na album,dok nije zavrsio na simfoniji sa Almanacom...Kroz ovu pesmu i prethodni album vidi se da Peavy hoce sa Marcosom i Lucky-em da povrati onaj period 90-tih sto se ocito primecuje....ko prati Rage od samog pocetka zna o cemu se radi...
Smolski is garbage
Definitely have to give Rodriguez props for being willing to follow-up Smolski. But I got to be honest, I almost prefer him to Smolski. While Victor was a wild guitarist and infinitely talented, Rodriguez is no slouch, and seems willing to step back to let the melodies breathe, and focus on the songs. It also helps that TDSA and this song feel way more inspired than any of the Smolski-era stuff past Speak of the Dead. It's like they've gone back to the Black in Mind or End of All Days era, which IMO is their best.
