I think what coach lee is trying to say is that, the more commonly taught way of playing overhead shots by circling the racket around our head is not ideal for power generation. Instead, bring the racket back so that the direction of the forces are aligned.
I actually think the direction of which way the racquet drop behind the head should not matter too much. Let me explain. 1. The racquet drop behind the head should not be achieved by changing the direction of holding, but rather a very loose hold, as forearm swings forward, the racquet head will naturally drop that way due to physics. 2. Then you tightening your holding at the point of hitting, the loose grip basically allowed more space for the racquet head to accelerate towards the point of hitting. Direction of the initial circular movement of the racquet also does not matter much like a sling, as long as the direction at the final hitting is the right and intended one. 3. To clarify, I don’t think anyone should force racquet head dropping towards behind head, but it’s just a natural consequence of a very relaxed and loose finger grip.
Yeah its true that the initial circular movement may not be negatively impacting the shot if the final impact is right but it is, however, power that youre not able to harness by circling your racket. Using your sling analogy, circling the racket around your head is like pulling the sling diagonally back, instead of straight back.
@@TPerm-hj4sf That's what I do as well, I don't see any problem with this our normal pronation, I totally respect your view coach lee, but this is very conflicting information, there is many coach that tell us something different, also I've heard many times that backcourt pronation is like throwing a ball or something, like baseball player I mean. I find it very natural to be not tense + loose grip (and yeah somehow the racket does go to the side but it doesn't kill my power in any way whatsoever therefore after the retightning at the impact I impart so much power to the shuttle. Coach lee, if your point is to make the swing short to intercept early the bird I totally agree, but still this pronation when we do have time is very helpful to get some extra power. But that's only my opinion I'm not trying force my view here nor say you are wrong.
ulrich rafa Both action are viable. The essence of what he does is to cut away the back/side swing. Pro: smaller action, faster reaction time, less room for timing error, Con: less overall power. I think this technique is more suitable for double players, social players who do not have many training to perfect their hitting timing. When I say social, it probably can covers all the way to median A grade level.

Hello Craig You have very good concentration on the shuttlecock and you are a very fucosed person. If you practice some key footwork steps and hitting skills, you can play very good badminton and much higher level. Start today search for footwork and hitting skills. Good luck.

David Dinh I don’t try to circling my racquet though. All I do is tighten the grip.
