100% One of those games I always have installed with mods on my old laptop (along with other goldies like Master of Orion 2, Alpha Centauri, Medieval 2 - Lord of the Rings mods etc...)
@@arthursimsa9005 no. BG1 has amazing open world design that makes it stand out compared to later similar games. It's accidentally closer to modern games than BG2, NWN or KOTOR.
@@KasumiRINA Well, first off, the "open world" fad is not the only criterium that characterizes "modern games", so it's a bit weird to focus on it like you seem to do. Even then, saying that it is "amazing" in BG1 certainly sounds pretty ridiculous to me. It sure doesn't feel amazing to me to fight hobgoblins and wolves in the woods of Age of Empires 2 for 30 hours... And even if you enjoy it, you have to agree that it's a strange decision that no modern game would ever dare to make: to spend an entire first entry on a low level adventure! And then there's everythng else. The combat system is not modern; neither are the writing, the representation of women (Imoen feels like a joke "average girl" carricature) or the paper-thin companions, and the list goes on... I haven't played BG2, NWN or Kotor, so I can't judge. I have played Planescape: Torment and the first Fallout, though, and they certainly feel more modern than BG1. As to argue why exactly, I'm not sure it's something I can articulate within the remaining 5 minutes I'm willing to continue this conversation, but I'd say Fallout at least has the advantage of a smoother gameplay (because it didn't limit itself by attempting to be "DND finally playable on a computer"), and Planescape Torment, of course, is very "avant-garde".
This game is really confusing for me since I’ve never had any exposure to such old RPGs that require such level of thinking. But I hope that I can slowly get a hang of things and have as much fun as everyone else is with this game.
This game can be a bit overwhelming for some especially if your not familiar with the older d&d rules, THAC0 ext. I’m an old school gamer and it was for me at first as well, but try to hone a few rules/mechanics each time u jump on and it will get easier!

@@DJdeliverance Hey, I was originally at Candlekeep after I did the tutorial since I don’t have much time to play for a bit. I just didn’t tutorial and honestly plan on doing the tutorial again to iron things out that I didn’t understand that I still may be a bit slow with, as I play on switch and need to get used to the controls. I spent a great deal of time with the character creator and planned on doing a human Fighter with skills in scimitar and dual wield. I’ll keep you posted how far I end up getting, thanks for the advice 🙏
In BG2, I use a crate in Wakeen's Promenade near the north exit to stash my excess stuff. About half way through SoA, I clear out the first 2 levels of Watcher's Keep. Once I clear level 1, I move my stuff to the cabinets and chests on the first level of Watcher's Keep. This way, All my good items transfer to Throne of Baal.
Good video! Another tip is to look up the hidden items. If you turn on highlihting loot it helps, the diamond in a tree right above Xzar & Montaron, them Ring of Protection +1 in a rock in the next area (go up after you meet Elminster) and Rimg of Wizardry that doubles level one slots NEAR a rock to the right of Friendly Arm Inn area, all xan be gotten a few minutes into chapter 1.
When I was something like 12 years old I played this game and I loved it. I have no idea what happened to the CD but I didn't have it anymore after a few weeks. Many years later I couldn't remember the name of that game which was so fun. The funny thing is that I played 60 hours of bdg3 without knowing bdg1 was the game I couldn't remember the name. I finally had a look at the first bdg to realise it was the one. And now aged 33 I'm finally playing again
In addition to scroll and gem bags there is also a potion bag (case) that you can buy in High Hedge Estate (go west from Beregost) from Thalantyr the Conjurer.
Thalantyr also has wand of sleep, and it's an OP item early game, it lets even Dynaheir cast it and can be recharged by selling and buying (or stealing) back.
As I’m finishing my second play through again before I start BG2, the anticipation is starting to ware on me for BG3 because I’m having such a good time in BG1
Give everyone a neutralize poison potion in a quick slot, for an instant fix for poison. Equipping everyone with a flask of the stuff also ensures that you have spares that can be passed to the front line scrappers if they've already had to glug their own flask.
Another tip, if you bring in Dynaheir with Minsc, she had innate Slow Poison spell as a skill (star icon on UI), castable once per day. I keep forgetting that myself. Saves on potions.

One BIG change between AD&D2 in Baldur's Gate 1/2 and 3rd and later editions is that stats do NOT give bonuses every even number. 1st time I'm playing BG with intent to finish it. Thanks so much for the video. Do you feel it's necessary to make a party or just accept who the game gives you?
So when u first start the game it will let you make one char which is basically your hero. The rest you recruit. All the recruits in the game are powerful enough to get u through the end of the game no prob. U can make a party with mods but u will loose a lot of the in game banter that imo makes the game more interesting. My suggestion is to make your one char and recruit the rest on your first play-through.
Highly recommend to make only one character, there's too many companions and you can hire and drop them as you wish, and since some come in pairs, you won't find space for them if you make multiple characters yourself.
