  • Today I'm sharing the main reasons why I think college is worth it for most students, from the perspective of someone who recently graduated and has worked for several months in finance and consulting!

Thank you for making this video. I think this is just what the world needs. I was rather surprised that you quit your job in consulting, but you do have to do what you love. I look forward to the next video.

College is definetly a must nowadays, it might seem as a simple status, but a degree can help you through a lot.. eventho I am really bored of my lectures, hopefully UA-cam will be the way :)

It worth it but it just depend on major you pick. If most people attend college then degree will be worthless because everyone has it. There was once back in the old days where high diploma can get you a decent job but now that job might require you like a master degree. The degree only worth it when its rare. Its like money when you print too much it become inflated.

You forgot to say college is an investment… for all the money being paid you should get more than the amount … in Nigeria that’s why people sometimes say school is a scam… it’s true and not also true… nice work 🦋

this is why i chose to study outside of the country lol. universities in the united states are a student debt magnet. but its still really expensive.

It’s largely dependent on the individual. There are three things that give you your salary:
    1. Your knowledge and skills
    2. Your personality
    3. What you are willing to do to get what you need
You can learn skills without college, but there’s still a reason college grads earn more on average. College teaches you skills and you have to present good work ethic to get things done successfully. The same could also be said of trade school students. Trade school takes less time than college, but sometimes it could cost just as much depending on what you are doing. Scarcity is what creates value.
Now back to my three things. When choosing college or anything else, you need to have a detailed plan. Next you need to have an idea on how you tend to progress the best. A lot of students do t know this at 18. Because college requires a lot of advanced level math, sciences, etc., you should reconsider if you tend not to be good at those things.
You also have to consider college as a start and not an end. Same with trade school. To be successful, you have to be a constant learner all your life. School is not the end of school.
Your personality counts because you won’t do as well without being a good person.
You also have to consider what you are willing to do. College takes time from other things you will do in those years. Therefore, you will have limited energy for a lot of other potential stuff during that time.
Each career also has demands. If you can’t make the demands of that career, success will be limited. You have to be willing to do what it takes. Some employment opportunities require very long hours to do well in. That’s why law firms have a hard time keeping female lawyers.
You also need to be the type of person who is either good at books naturally. If you forgo college or trade school, you need to be good at disciplining yourself. College gives a degree of structure that a lot of young people still need. These self help gurus tell kids to drop out and the kids pay the price. If you need to spend a bunch of time watching self help, you probably need to stay in school.

So true lol, I also graduated from Uoft St George as a comp sci grad back in 2016, and tbh, the biggest skill i took from the peice of paper was being good at googling questions and building projects on my own, none of the textbook theoretical stuff ins chool you learned. But indeed having the degree regardless of background i'm still very proud and happy I've completed my undergrad. Not discovering myself and networking was my biggest regret.
Awesome video! Agree with alot of your points, and it took me down memory lane to back when i was a student haha. uoft was truly an memorable experience, althoughu stressful, but very fullfilling.

Spot on! recent grad here in Manitoba, Canada and college is more than just studying in class, but also how you make good presentation, work as a group, field study, discover new interests, networking, writing skills, organization skills, critical thinking skills, how you add value to the community and society, etc.....

@@KKOOLSKOOL tell me again how? Let me ask: How do you conduct field project, presentation outside of an education institutions? actually, outside, you usually learn street and life lesson. Uni is when the facility, communities act as platform to help shape you to be a better well rounded person. As I said, it is not only about good at math... But other factors that made you a more mature and well thought individuals

Most likely because he wants you to succeed but not all parents know how to best prepare their kids for the future and just add to the stress. It is important to keep your momentum and keeping up with college deadlines while maybe working a little bit will do that. keep an open mind, try your best, and if it’s not for you then move on to the next thing. Never be scared of failure.
