25yr AC guy here and I had to fix my first exhaust fan today. I could have figured it out, it was just a split belt, but I appreciate your video for giving me a heads up about what to expect under the hood.
Awesome instructional video! Quick question though, what size pulleys should be on the fan? I have one that has a large pulley (maybe 8") and doesn't go very fast even though the brand new motor is rated at 1720 RPM.
I must of missed the wiring part. That you skipped. When doing the wiring. You did mention what goes to what. I'm more of a visual learner. Good Video 👍
The successful operation of a belt drive is highly dependent on the diameter of the pulleys involved. The ARPM (Association for Rubber Product Manufacurers) publishes minimum recommended pulley diameters
@@Dirtdigler22 It's good to clean off wheels, but if you do it unevenly and not completely eliminate grease or other buildup you could induce an imbalance and wreck the wheel, driven shaft, bearings, or the motor shaft on a direct drive fan.
Can i put a variable speed switch to control the speed in the kitchen where i make it on and off if i don’t have access on the top. Please help because winter time our store get very cold
The swap out is the same. However, when you increase the HP, you increase CFM, which also increases the static pressure. So you need to plot everything on a fan chart to make sure it will all work
Hi, I need help. When I turn off the hood at close, morning I turn the switch on, it’s not running until I climb up the roof and press the start button. Then, it works but I have to do it every morning. Is there a way to set it automatic runs without manually press the Start button? Please help
If the motor is spinning at its name plate speed your issue may be with needing more speed/higher RPMs which can be done with pulley changes. If the motor is not rotating at name plate RPMs it could be overloaded and require more power to achieve the proper RPM. Manufacturers typically ensure adequate HP sizing for motor in case a speed increase is required.
Question Tad, I installed new motor this morning, same deal as this, was rotating clockwise , needed to be counter clockwise so I changed the wires per the instructions ( red and black) it worked fine, but I also switched the two leads the white and black.(green is grounded).. Seemed to work perfectly I thought that the white and black wires was for variable speed, one leg didn't test out so I figured only one was hot. Should I take it back apart and switch the leads again or is it fine? I'm much better at automotive, not so much on AC. Thanks
I think you have it wired correctly but I would refer to the motor wiring diagram just to make sure so that you know you're on the right track I like your UA-cam name pretty cool man

Nice work!
Good teacher and thanks you so much for your positive honest teachings in public interest
It's my pleasure
Very helpful video my friend. Im gonna replace one my self is the first time doing it.
Glad it helped
Brilliant...thorough and always refreshing 👍👍👍
Many thanks!

Thank you Southcoast I will do a video about pulley sizing soon

👍
What Belt Size would you use to get your best air pull ??
not sure

Exhaust fans, Tad getting bigger. Exciting.
Thank you!brother for videos please do more 🙏 fan hood bearing, shaft etc..
What do you degrease the fan blades if they have build up
Did you ever find an answer to this?

What's the maximum CFM on full speed for the fans
Great video. Love the energy.
Thanks so much!
What should the rotation be, I was told all exhaust fans should turn ccw
look at the direction of the wheel and you will know

Hello my friend , I did replace the new motor , but new one run and stop every 1 or 2 single minutes . Why?
Is there any difference when upgrading from a 1HP motor to a 2 HP motor? Should be the same. Right?
It is more about RPMs than HP.
The swap out is the same. However, when you increase the HP, you increase CFM, which also increases the static pressure. So you need to plot everything on a fan chart to make sure it will all work
The mount where the motor is shaking a lot. Is that normal ?
no shaking is bad
@@TaddyDigest1 vibration isolation nut gave out so i changed them all but can't tell if the movement of the mount is normal or not.

Yes absolutely
Is something making it shut off? Is it getting hot I don't understand?
Hey I got a same issue on my motor, my question. Is can I replace a motor with 3425 rpm ?
Right now the motor is 1725 rpm and I wanna replace is with another with 3400 rpm and 2 hp do you think the fan can handle it?
We had our motor replaced but I swear it turns the wrong way, no air draft. How do we change the rotation direction?
Change the way it's wired up.
Is it ok to upsize the motor? The current motor have .75 Hp and it not suck all the smoke out. Thank you for advance.
Always learn from your video.
I'm not sure if that would be ok or not

Hey Tad who I have to call to fix the exhaust kitchens electrical or a/c companies?
Find a mechanical company/AC company
Some work on them and some don't
Call around

Awesome Glad to here this
Are those all the tools needed for kitchen exhaust fan related repairs? How about for bearing replacements what tools needed for that?
replacing bearings you may need a bearing puller also
I will post a link in the description
What kinda cfm do they pull in like apartment exhaust setups. We got similar units plumbed in.
The ranges are different and they vary from set up to set up
This one was for a commercial kitchen
grease better than oil for bearings
so my fan works but its not pulling air efficiently , what should i check ?
check direction
hood size and length and size of duct
Nice job.
Great instruction! Thank you!
absolutely your welcome Glad you watched and enjoyed 😉
It's for cleaning the air!
so funny,you the best!
Thank you Terry
