Bought one of these used. Mine has 4 wheel drive would highly recommend if you normally drive a hatchback or car but live in the snow belt this thing is a beast during a snow storm probably why practically everyone in Northeast Ohio drives them. the lake effect snow is no joke.
My daughter has the 2015 Outlander Sport and loves it. She has the 4WD, with the 2.4 liter engine along with other great features. They have really improved this vehicle and I love the sharp cool look of it too.
You forgot to mention that it competes with Subaru Forester. The Forester has more power and AWD standard. I actually went car shopping w/ my mom earlier this year and she ended up getting a 2011 Forester Limited with leather, huge moonroof, blu-tooth, heated mirrors, windshield/wipers, and seats.. loaded with everything for not much more than price of this Mitsu. It's a sweet ride.
As an owner of the 2007 outlander. I will say you sell this car short. For 25k It's the best SUV you can buy. The 3.0 v6 is pretty amaxing. Astounding considering the reputation of the car. It's got
Thank you for an honest review Ross!!! The other reviewers are convinced to hate this car before they even drive it. Just read the consumer reviews. They love this car! There are just pages and pages of five stars reviews.
Here in New Zealand it's called the ASX. I have 2 of them both top spec AWD Sports. I have now spent 70,000kms behind the wheel. Much of this distance has been on our challenging alpine roads in the south & both cars have proved to be FAULTLESS. It's a fun car to drive, comfortable economical & extremely competent in all road conditions. It's not a rocket ship but I've never had any trouble keeping up with the traffic, the 2.0L is more than up to the job. Mitsi is a top 7 brand in NZ.
I love mine, it is just like the one in the video, plus the panoramic roof! Although a Ralliart version would persuade me to trade mine in! Great vehicle!
The car doesn't need a turbo or a bigger engine. Its selling point is the 31mpg it gets, geared towards younger potential buyers that don't always have the money to spend in fuel.
I get about 23-28mpg on the highway. I take it out on old dirt roads throughout the year in Maine. On those said roads, mud, ice, snow I have always got to where I was going. I also know not to push its limits. I wont go through massive mud pits or extremely deep snow. But it's 4wheel drive works.
Hello, RoadFly. I was glad to find your channel on youtube, you somehow mix info and fun, wich kbb manages to do in just some of their videos. I heard that Jessi Lang is getting her PhD and I was wondering if she is coming back after she graduates? I mean sure Ross seems to be a good guy and great reviewer but I miss Jessi's passional attitude to cars - her reviews of GTI and Mustang GT are the best ever, actually I think they were as good as some of the TopGear UK videos. So is she coming back?
He is 100% correct on the fuel mileage. For someone like me who likes a little bit more pick up on the initial start, this car is not meant for that. Doing so usually I only get 25 MPG at most, more often then not pulling 24mpg. Buyers need to beware that the MPG rating is hard to obtain.
true, but the Outlander Sport isn't the only CUV in the market that gets 31 mpg which makes it hard to win over potential buyers especially when the others feel more lively
I just keep my foot in it. and it will get to scooting. but I plan on adding a turbo 😈 since evo x and ralli art parts swap over. i have a 2015. fwd 2.4l nav. power seat i also have a 2011. awd. 2.0 with the panoramic sunroof also has the rockford fosgate system with the 10 in sub. love it. i have 104k miles on it
Was there Mitsubishi SpaceStar in America around the 2000’s? I never seen one yet. It was a fun small minivan to drive. Useful. Quick. Family quick van.
Great review as always Ross. I'd still feel to uneasy buying a mitsubishi of any sort now. For a small SUV, or SAV as I believe they are called now, I'd do a Subaru Forester hands down. Wouldn't you?
@DemonOfRazgriz89 If we get technical, Bugatti is French, but it is owned by the VW group so its German. Models I forgot RR Phantom Bentley Flying Spur Aston Martin Rapide
Ross it is not about the car buyers, it is the car reviewers. So, far you are the only one who said reasonably meaningful things about this car. Bias and reviewing, whatever it may be don't go together. And those car reviewers effect each other about a car. Also, I can see that you are familiar with mitsubishi quality. Mitsubishi is a big corporation and I think the compition is scared of them..
I just bought one yesterday looks just like the one in the video, nice ride...My question is how do you work the paddle shifters , it changes the gearing?
@countach27 Can't. Despite what people of Europe think or emissions laws are far stricter, hence the difficulty of bringing a diesel. VW has done it and Mazda will soon too, along with Chevy believe it or not.
yes but not everyone wants to row their own boat if ya know what i mean, still like the manual gear box in the CX-5 than the one in the Outlander though...
@WE0H Sucks to hear that, in Europe their prices are about equal with diesel probably being a bit cheaper. The situation in the US is strange, correct me if I'm wrong but diesel is actually cheaper to produce than gasoline. It's not that I'm a fan of diesel myself though, it's just that it makes way more sense in bigger cars and especially in all types of SUVs.
@dkt3wings Actually our diesel has been low-sulfur (under 15ppm) since 2006. The difference is because of higher taxes in the US on diesel vs gasoline. (The opposite is true in Europe, but for the same reason)
@datpimpinboy It is beginning to be furstrating that Mitsubishi isn't paying much attention to competition in terms of engine performance/engine offerings; the same would apply to Suzuki with the Kizashi.
Why not a diesel engine and manual transmission? More torque, more gas mileage. An Outlander Sport Evo would be really fun though, but the way you describe them, the interior, first this, first that really makes them seem like an archaic company. I like the way it looks under the hood... you can actually see the engine and other parts--they're not covered in plastic panels! Emme didn't drive it because there's no sunroof. Holla! haha
if mitsu makes a 2nd gen Outlander sport, they definitely need to put thier 2.4L in the hood, give the interior some contrast, and the car would be perfect!!!!!!
Too everyone who says Americans are stupid cause they don't use diesels. Shut Up diesel fuel in the US does not have as good quality as Europe it also contains alot of sulfur. Diesel is also expensive here unlike Europe.
Need to make it a hybrid with 300 something foot pounds of combined torque and get near 40 mpg. That's be a winner worth $30k :) Whatever happened to Jessi Lang? Haven't seen one of her reviews in a while :(
It looks good. However, it also look it has a weak engine. Is it ?? 148 BHP is not enough for a an SUV this size . I would consider buying it if it has at least 250 BHP and the same of torque , like the Chevy trailblazer .
Love to see anything that would kill the JUKE, but instead, this one stands far behind, 2.0L is way to go but not a way to win, reminds me of a 2000 RAV-4. we need a winner in this era, other than a JUKE.
@countach27 What if you could have a gasoline hybrid with 300 ft lb of TQ and running on the way less expensive gasoline? Diesel prices over here are way higher than gas. I know the EU people always speak small displacement diesel motors, but the fact is in the USA we won't have those motors for whatever reasons. Likely the crooked oil companies making sure we don't have them available here. Who knows? Oh well...
this is called an ASX in the netherlands. i did notice the car in the video is using an automatic gearbox, which isnt available here in the netherlands, but the panoramic sunroof is.
@datpimpinboy You know, you're the only other person who sees the Outlander Sport as a competitor to the Juke. I believe that both cars are great, and that either are VERY practical, though I'm also perplexed as to why they'd call this the "Sport" yet equip it with such an anemic engine. Slap the Ralliart's engine in there and you would have a winner.
It's because the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has a sporty exterior styling. As MotorWeek host John Davis said in his review of this vehicle: "The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is more 'Flash' than 'Go Fast.'"
as poor as the reviews of the car are (three motor trend editors voted it the worst car of 2011), you've got to admit that it looks fantastic. i hope mitsubishi can get back to where they used to be, as a cool brand along with honda (when honda was still cool).
I like Hyundai designs way better, hes right though about the sports cars they were hott but thats the only good thing they ever made. The rest were always just yuck.
Evolution Super Sedan??? It is a great car, but that does not automatically make it a super sedan. There are only a handful of super sedans out there, and they are no Mitsubishis to earn that crown. BMW M5 ALPINA B7 MB S63 AMG PANAMERA Turbo S Audi S8 and the up coming Bugatti Galibier
@bottomlayer What about the higher diesel price? Seems the only places that sell it more reasonable is the truck stops. I still like the hybrid idea. Less money going to those foreign countries for their oil. We need to have Made in the USA bio-fuels made with USA grown crops. I do understand your thoughts on the diesel motor as my dad drives a RAM 2500 diesel 6 speed manual. It has the mad torque :)
@datpimpinboy They did what was smart thing to do! Gas is Expensive and they gave us good Gas millage on this car. If you want more power by sport car !!! daaaaaaaaa
@countach27 I think the oil companies are crooked in the US and our crooked government supports them :( Not a thing we can do about it either :( That's my reason's for supporting alternative fuels and hybrids to lessen our contribution to those crooks.
I guess since its about the cheapest in the segment but I think the CX-5 gives you way more bang for the buck in terms of driving and only being $1k more, I'm not a big fan of the CVT that's in the Outlander Sport
Bought one of these used. Mine has 4 wheel drive would highly recommend if you normally drive a hatchback or car but live in the snow belt this thing is a beast during a snow storm probably why practically everyone in Northeast Ohio drives them. the lake effect snow is no joke.

Ross you make every car look super BIG lol :), Great Review too !
I like Ross's reviews, good job pairing him with great cars

what makes this car a winner is that its pretty much tied with the CUV for the most fuel effeciency, but almost $10k cheaper if Im not mystaken.
This is perfect for me my wife and daughter to take on road trips. I think I just made up my mind!
@itsTiLER That figure was in US gallons, consumption in liters would be 6.7/4.8/5.5 l/100km urban/extra-urban/combined.
i dont like the rav4, crv and old outlander so i went for the montero io, now i want this one
The 90's Eclipse Turbo and the 300GT/Dodge Stealth were awesome.
I miss that Mitsubishi of old....
Best standard vehicle that has come from mitsubishi in a long time
is this cvt transmission?
Great review as always Ross. I'd still feel to uneasy buying a mitsubishi of any sort now. For a small SUV, or SAV as I believe they are called now, I'd do a Subaru Forester hands down. Wouldn't you?
Sweet review Ross Man!
Thanks God! Finally some well put review of Outlander Sport.
@DemonOfRazgriz89 If we get technical, Bugatti is French, but it is owned by the VW group so its German.

I just bought one yesterday looks just like the one in the video, nice ride...My question is how do you work the paddle shifters , it changes the gearing?
Eric Carr is it good on gas?
@countach27 Can't. Despite what people of Europe think or emissions laws are far stricter, hence the difficulty of bringing a diesel. VW has done it and Mazda will soon too, along with Chevy believe it or not.
I do love your reviews. Clear, practical, and educational. But, dude, it's summer, go out and get some sun.
Great Review and he is right about everything.
@WE0H why not a diesel engine like they used to offer on the Jeep Liberty? It had just under 300 lb ft and mpg in the mid-20s
Love your reviews! great goob :)
@bottomlayer thats too bad, clean diesel technology is more efficient than regular gasoline and you get the same or better performance.
@countach27 is that Imperial MPGs or the MPGs American uses?
good review man thanks
@countach27 Why? diesel fuel just cost more.
@MrMBMW93 Sorry, don't really know how EPA rates fuel economy, I just converted it from l/100km, which is 5.5 l/100km, which is quite economical.
@countach27 while those engines are more effiecient, they do not meet our emissions standards.
@martin9545 I know it's Japanese, I said they should put in the engine from the European VERSION of this model (the Mitsubishi ASX).
yes but not everyone wants to row their own boat if ya know what i mean, still like the manual gear box in the CX-5 than the one in the Outlander though...
Excellent information. Just add a little more on the interior tech goodies. Thanks.
I think they are doing something with engine for 2012 model! So wait and see
Good job Sir. very relevant !
These are pretty nice on the exterior, but the interior isn't up to snuff with the competition.
@WE0H Sucks to hear that, in Europe their prices are about equal with diesel probably being a bit cheaper. @203132 hmmmm. not sure what 193 kw means. Guessing its the European equivalent to Hp? and Do you mean the Subaru or Mitsu?
Come on ross! Keep both hands on the wheel! Or at least one. Great review.
@datpimpinboy It is beginning to be furstrating that Mitsubishi isn't paying much attention to competition in terms of engine performance/engine offerings; the same would apply to Suzuki with the Kizashi.
all it needs is a v6 engine. or a turbo 4 cylinder from the evo.
Why not a diesel engine and manual transmission? More torque, more gas mileage. An Outlander Sport Evo would be really fun though, but the way you describe them, the interior, first this, first that really makes them seem like an archaic company.

I agree with Bentlyboyy.... I'm sleeping on everything about that car....
@countach27 Hopefully when GDiesel becomes mainstream, the US will get more diesel options..
white is gorgeous
Where is Jessi?

that being said, this thing is SO much cooler than than the Rav 4 and CR-V it's not even funny...
Oh, it has remote start too....
This is the only reliable car Mitsubishi has and still I will never buy one. I'll go with the Rav4 or the Kia

They shud atleast turbo charge it
I wish MItsubishi wouod push harder to get back the portion of the market share they got taken away by Hyundai and Kia
25, and 31.. that is good mileage.
I like Hyundai designs way better, hes right though about the sports cars they were hott but thats the only good thing they ever made. The rest were always just yuck.
then get the 5 speed

and the up coming
Bugatti Galibier
uh. thats the outlander. this is the outlander sport. this car doesnt have a 3rd row seat

Outlander sport is the best bang for the buck
@juozazole oh ok thanks!

this car is boring and i think it needs a update allready maybe leather seat option?? sunroof option??
it looks funny, not very SUVish, not very hatchbackish not very crossoverish.
@tcbecht88 193kw = 259hp
Toyota Venza review :D
Looks good, but put a freakin' V6 under there!
A zero to 60 in 7.5 seconds maybe less. However the cars third row is unbearable
Here in Canada these are called RVR's, what a dumb name!
@WE0H Sadly corruption exists everywhere.
