Larsson did it on the biggest stage in Europe, he also won a CL with Barcelona and was an important part in doing so. He was also playing in a SPL that was far more competitive than that of Oldco's 9IAR era.

Not that farfetched of a debate if you’re talking pure output from a striker, and especially not using your metrics. McCoist has 2 European Golden boots and was 1 goal away from achieving a place in the final of the inaugural Champions League competition - with Rangers. Not Barcelona who are expected to win these kinds of tournaments. Losing to a team that went on to win it and were subsequently stripped (kept European Cup for some peculiar reason) of that seasons winnings for match fixing. However, I do think Larsson was a more gifted footballer than McCoist, but Laudrup the best talent Scotlands ever seen. In my opinion.

Countless world cups and European championships scored goals. He came off the bench to win Barcelona the CL final. The guy was special and then some

@@arronblack67 I’m not trying to say Larsson wasn’t incredible. Definitely up there with the very best. I have a bit of bias towards Laudrup as a Rangers supporter. He never had a bad game. Had a supernatural gift with a football at his feet. Won Euros with Denmark and the Confederations Cup. Champions League. Serie A. UEFA Supercup. He was also already on that world class level when Rangers bought him. Larsson was a kid when he joined Celtic and proved his worth elsewhere later on albeit nowhere near as much as he could’ve if had left earlier. Key words being “could have”. The world never got to see a prime Larsson in the big leagues. So Laudrup edges it for me. But I also acknowledge they play different positions and the hardest thing is putting the ball in the net which Larsson was a freak at doing. I think Laudrup was more talented and accomplished than Larsson that doesn’t equate to me thinking he’s bad. In an all time SPL 11 Larsson plays striker Laudrup right wing no doubt about it.
Ally was a good goal-getter, but it's no contest who was the better player. The king of kings was simply brilliant.

Both were master goalscorers, the big thing that separates them is Larsson's ability as an overall player. Even if (and it's a big if) McCoist had the edge as a pure goalscorer, Larsson was so far ahead in other aspects of the game puts him over McCoist 100%.

@@LHBH8 I don't think so....242 goals in 315 games, 35 goals in 58 European games. He beat Hernan Grespo to the 2001 Golden boot after a 53 goal season. 106 caps for Sweden. Larson was nominated for the Ballon d'or and Euefa team of the year 2001. He also won the Champions League final with Barcelona. He made the two goals after coming on as a sub when his team were 1-0 down.

Both were great players, McCoist was a penalty box man, lethal in it, but Henrik was a more complete player, could score from anywhere, play multiple positions, man was incredible but he had great teammates too helping, Larsson was better all around, no disrespect to McCoist though
If we solely look at their time in Scottish football there isn't much between them - Id say Ally, but if you look at their careers as a whole then Larsson.
Henrik did it against decent Rangers teams,McCoist did it against poor Celtic teams.

With respect to what a great striker Ally McCoist was. One of the best Rangers and Scotland ever produced but Henrik Larsson was better. As much as Henrik is hailed a God at Celtic park, it's actually a crying shame overall he spent so long at Celtic because there's been players like Ibrahimovic that have said he was a dream to play alongside... Chris Sutton had paired with Alan Shearer before so could give you an informed account of what a great strike partner is like and says much the same in his praises. Played in same team as Thierry Henry etc also. Henrik is actually under rated imo because of the length of time he was in Scotland. A special talent. Deserves more credit and no shame to Ally McCoist being 2nd in this comparison.

For me McCoist was the better player because he played on pitches that were like Hills, Larsson played on the proper pitches you see nowadays, he also get the opportunity to play for Barca and united as any player would these days (I could have a half decent season in the SPL and end up signing for Liverpool because that’s what football has become).
