Officers Bicycle Training Certification

More than two dozen officers from the Santa Monica Police Department recently participated in a four-day bicycle certification training course at Virginia Avenue Park. The course, which took place from July 12th to 15th, focused on training techniques and safety procedures for safe and effective use of bicycles.
The officers who participated in the course included Traffic Services Officers, Community Services Officers, Harbor Patrol Officers, and Code Enforcement Officers, in addition to regular police officers. The training covered a variety of skills, such as mounting and dismounting, emergency stops, slow maneuvering, curb hopping, bike positioning, and traffic safety. These skills are essential for police officers who use bicycles as part of their duties.
