  • Hi guys!
    This week i decided to try something new on my chanel. I bought some #airdryclay from DAS and started experimenting with it . This is my first try at air dry clay so it might look a bit rough around the edges but i think it's a fun medium to work with and i hope you find it useful. I made a jewellery dish and some pins and i show the process of painting the jewellery dish

    What is the difference between gouache and watercolor? Is gouache like tempera paint?

    • @AncaPoraIllustration
      @AncaPoraIllustration  3 роки тому

      The difference between the two is mainly the amount pf pigment. Watercolors tend to be more transparent and you can create pretty washes while gouache is more opaque. They are similar in their ingridients however and you can use gouache like watercolors bz thining them down with water. It just depends what look you are going for

    • @AncaPoraIllustration
      @AncaPoraIllustration  5 років тому +1

      Hi Chloé . Sorry to hear it broke . I think maybe one solution would be to move it around while it's still wet on the bowl so it doesn't stick so hard to the bowl but it still maintains it's shape. Try not to apply too much pressure when adding the clay to the bowl. Hope this is somewhat helpful :D . Let me know if you succeed :D

    • @lokiluna9552
      @lokiluna9552 4 роки тому

      you don't have to use a sealant if you don't want to, it's just going to have a matte finish then, so it's more of an aesthetic choice. just don't use water on your finished products as it is not waterproof

    Hello, I hope this message gets to you. I am interested in creating jewelry and I’m wondering if air-dry clay would be a good option? I do not have access to a kiln and I am looking for a similar alternative. Is there anything I use to make sure the air-dry clay jewelry is durable and waterproof?

    • @AncaPoraIllustration
      @AncaPoraIllustration  4 роки тому

      Polymer is a good alternative if you don't have a kiln. Polymer clay can be baked in a regular kitchen oven. But i think air dry clay can be a good option for jewellery also. It really depends how big your jewellery pieces would be. But if you seal air dry clay it should stay waterproof.

      Thank you ! I am not sure if the air dry clay is that good for that purpose as i feel it might absorb the humidity from the soil. But then again i have never tried it so it might work. Let me know how it works out for you :D

    awsome video! i used mod podge over the acrylics to seal my clay bowl. i made sure the colors are dried properly(2 days). still they got spread and ruined it. isnt mod podge a right varnish for acrylics?

    • @AncaPoraIllustration
      @AncaPoraIllustration  4 роки тому

      Thank you! So sorry to hear that the paint got ruined. I have actually had that happen with regular varnish for wood. I haven't tried mod podge. But it's best you try looking for a varnish made specifically for acrylic paints . Try looking for water based varnishes as i found that those do not ruin the paint. Here are some examples of varnishes and some explanations on each one www.deckleedge.co.za/varnishing-your-artwork/ . Hope this helps

    • @AncaPoraIllustration

      air dry clay dries if you just leave it out for 48 hours. It hardens by the moisture of the clay evaporating. Hope that makes sense :D

      No. The varnish i used is not food safe. And i don't think air dry clay is the best for making dishes. This bowl i made is purely for decorative purposes. You might want to look into ceramics and non toxic glazes for this purpose

    It is unfortunate that you did not mention anything about the clay sticking to the bowl and just show that it looks great after drying. I followed your video and ruined my bowl and the whole project.

    • @AncaPoraIllustration
      @AncaPoraIllustration  3 роки тому

      So sorry about that. This was one of my first air dry clay tutorials so i might have omitted this information. Try using a layer of cling film between the air dry clay and the mould. This way it's easier to remove

      I am not good with acrylics either. They always come out really streaky for some reason. That's why I prefer gouache and I use a gouache varnish so it's all set in place ♥
