A Final Look at the Tropicana Las Vegas and its Elevators

  • As of today, April 2nd 2024, the Tropicana in Las Vegas is closing its doors forever. It opened in 1957 as the most expensive casino resort on the strip, and will soon be demolished to make way for a new baseball stadium. It was quite eerie and also sad walking through this whole hotel. Not only was it completely empty and void of people unlike the other casinos around, but also just the knowledge that the place was soon going to be gone forever really gave me a weird feeling walking around here.
ALSO. I want to note just how awful the security team here is. I have never seen casino security with bigger sticks up their asses than these guys. They harassed Justin and Tyler for filming a video and threw them out of the hotel and trespassed them. Not to mention, after Nathan and I had left, they threatened to throw my friend who was a PAYING GUEST THERE out of the hotel if he took more pictures. At the end of the you can see that me and Nathan were even questioned too, but that guard in particular didn’t have any issues with us since we told him we were visiting a guest at the hotel. Right after I stopped the video however, another more rude guard came up and told me to stop taking pictures, then told me to “have a nice day” and beckoned toward the door. We left but I came back the next day to get more pictures and videos because screw that guard! Lol. Now luckily for them they wont have to worry about people taking pictures of the property anymore!

Thanks for sharing! The quality isn't the best but those might indeed be Armor fixtures! I have no clue if Armor did the install though, if they are Dover w/ Armor fixtures (like the Plaza before mod), or installed by a local company (maybe Sierra, though I'm not aware of any Sierra installs in southern NV)

@@upanddownadventures I can’t say how but I confirmed these are armor

I'm 90% sure these might have been Sierra. They were a local company in Nevada that used Armor a lot.

glad to see not one but TWO videos of this gorgeous place pop up today! would've loved to see it in person. it's a shame the mid-century aesthetic is fading fast from this country. thanks so much for sharing this for posterity sake!

We’re definitely going to miss this hotel especially the Otis that behaves like Mitsubishi (referring to the one you guys ended up boarding) due to the lantern flashing when the elevator arrives & are scenic!

I went here back in 2022 around my birthday weekend, so I grabbed a video of these elevators not knowing that it will be history...

I just don't quite understand what's the big issue with people taking photos of their property when it's about to close forever. There was even a local news article about someone who was able to take photos of their property as well without any issues. Sure, it's private property and they have the right to kick people out for whatever reason, but still, at least IMO, this is kinda hideous with security kicking people out for this when the property's about to close. Kinda reminds me of this one famous UA-camr I know of who was staying at Cosmo and got trespassed without a refund and it's not for taking photos/videos but having a professional camera in his room. He was apologized to later on and invited back to stay with them.
Anyways, it's great you guys were able to take one last glimpse of the Tropicana before it closed. Sadly for me, I haven't been able to since I came to Vegas after it was closed.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous how uptight they were there at the end of things. But I am glad I got to see them, and at least I didn’t get bothered by security too much myself.

Why would they care if you film? It’s being torn down anyways. Been to Vegas countless times over the past 20 years and filmed tons non stop without a single issue 🤷‍♂️

Tropicana security god weirdly uptight at the end. Hassled Justin and Tyler and trespassed them, even threatened to kick out a friend of mine who was a guest if he took more pictures.

I can’t believe they’re actually doing this. So wasteful!
Do you know if Otis or some elevator company will come in and take all the buttons, motors, all that stuff out of here? It just seems so wasteful to let it all go with the demolition.

Also, you should’ve checked for service elevators when you were at this place. Do you know if anybody’s done that before? I doubt anything is original, but who knows.
And just so I don’t comment 1 million times, do you think you can give me a link for the video you talked about of the original armor elevators? I am lazy and don’t want to spend time looking for it lol.

Sadly the service elevators are behind locked doors so we weren’t able to see them. I’ll put the link to that video in a pinned comment under this video

Having stayed at the Tropicana n 2011, I'm sure I would have ridden these elevators.
