Well the box art didn't do that car any justice, awesome looking kit, now you have me lusting over another kit I cant have. Thanks for all you are doing
I’ve been waiting to have time to sit down and watch this all the way through. What a car! 😮 Thanks for sharing such a detailed build. Thanks for the shout out too 👍☺️
Great work on this video Keith. You did a really honest job with the Mini Mustang and even I know the car back to front I still enjoyed seeing someone else build this kit from the box and explain so much along the way. You're doing great things.
Great vid to see you build a new Mini Mustang all these years later. I used to race one of these back in the day were very competitive until the cats came along. I lived close to the Factory on the south coast of uk Keith Plested used to pop down to the race tracks see how his cars were performing. I ended up converting mine to a Maxima as it was so much better and looked cool. So wish I still had it. 👍
Gr8 vid Keith. Maxima didn't have the slipper or ball diff. Was gear diff. Big diff over the Mini Mustang was the one way on the front, more adjustability and the undertray. Awesome buggy for racing was lightweight and handled really well. Won many races with it. Stupidly I sold mine and bought an Avante. Would love to get another but they come up so rarely.
They are all definitely few and far in between. They command big money when you do find them which is the other side of it. I know Jason is building up a bunch of mustangs to be sold in the future but he only has 1 Maxima for his collection.
Unbelievable how one might think of it to be a low quality toy grade car when looking at the box, just to be surprised to see its a top tier racing kit from back then. What an epic sleeper car!
i remember building the mini mustang back in the day. i do remember having to boil the plasic parts such as the suspention arms to make them stronger. that was advised at the time. i think it hardend the plastic to stop them bending so much.
Another great video, it’s good to see a PB being built only ever seen them complete. Always a bit of an enigma back in the day, I think I saw one in my local hobby shop. The box made it look like a toy, but they used to show up quite regularly in race results in the uk.
Hello, its funny, I get up early on a Saturday and I can’t wait to see what in gods creation You’re going to have on your channel. I don’t follow social media and I don’t watch any series or any crap that’s on Tv. But this channel is intriguing to me. By the looks of the box art on this kit it looks like a piece of _____. it’s a shame because this kit is awesome it such a cool chassie. That goes to show how amazing Tamiya was at luring you in the the model By step one box art, presentation, and marketing…. Cool kit. I love your show. I can’t wait for a video of an update built cars and kits video on all the recent built and NIBS you have acquired since the start of your channel…. Thanks
Thank you. Yes, the box on this makes it look toy grade at best. Couldn’t be further from the truth. The channel turns a year old in June and I am planning new collection videos for the anniversary. Should be fun. Until my wife sees it. Lol
I currently finishing my basement and have an area that I’m working on finally to display the collection. It’s definitely going to be a problem with the wife when my collection all starts to come together in one area . But man I can’t wait….
Very cool kit and such a different thing from everything else out around that time or even now! That was an involved build and great job on it!! It is a far cry from the almost toy like depiction on the box! It does not sell itself well with the box art but the kit itself seem like it is an engineering masterpiece! Thank you for bringing us all along on such a cool an interesting build!!! I am sure everyone else watching also said "hrmm interesting" and "that's neat" and "oh wow" multiple time like I did!
I was thinking the same thing. I am getting ready to build my 2wd Coyote and AYK Radiant in the coming months. They will both be different from the typical vintage cars.
Hey Keith- that's a great journey through the building of an RC chassis from the formative years of our shared sport/hobby! Nice Work Dude! the 'Re-hydration' of old plastics will make a really interesting watch too dude- I went down the Glycerol hydration of old rubber tyres for a mo, but would love to hear what you've found out! All the Best! :)
I truly believe Jason has a Time Machine in Australia. Cool car, great video Keith. Too bad all the big brands crushed the smaller companies. Now everyone will have almost all the same vintage stuff in 20 years. Probably why the older cars now are really sought after. Talk about really having to build a car servo installation was crazy.
Mini Mustang is a favourite of mine! I remember seeing one for the first time many many years back when our club visited another club and there was one at that club and man the Mustang was a shocker in a good way! So fast and nimble light! it was really decent! I would love one and hope you run this one Keith? I don't know how successful they were back then as it was overshadowed by others but one thing l know is l was totally impressed by it!
I used to have one back in the day. Yes shocks and shock towers were not the best. I had option house shocks on mine. Also drivetrain was very free but because of the idler you cannot really run it in reverse without causing belt jump. The quick release battery connection found itself on other cars, especially for endurance racing.
Awesome kit. Never heard of it. The engineering side of it is just mindblowing. Can't wait to see it finished. Oh....and how can you rehydrate old plastics? You started talking about it a few times...😉 👍👍
Depends on the plastic. Some will wick wd40 and soften. Other plastics require heat plus an oil like mineral spirits. Some people said amour all works.
Dude Keith you did it - I’ve been waiting for this one!!! I gotta admit you seem to have infinite patience for these kits - RESPECT!!!!!!! I know some people might argue this but I think the mini mustang is the best of the 3 - the maxima feels a bit more like a prototype to me than a different car and the ACE is like the land rover discovery of RC - I wanted a discovery so bad, until I actually owned one 😂 Regardless you’ve made RC history once again with this video brother thank you for taking the time to film & share this with us 👍
Super cool. Is it just me, or does that box art paint color make that thing look toy grade? 😂 the shape of that body would look good painted that metalic blue that u painted the ford ranger with a platinum silver accent stripe Or that PS for the body and the MB for the accent stripe. But no matter what u come up with i know it's going to be cool. But i just realized it has red wheels so those colors aren't going to work😂 maybe a candy or pearl red with that platinum accent stripe. As soon as I can get back to work I'm going to get me a decent little kit and tryout those colors.😂
The steering ball that u put on the back steering blacks Is probably to put ur ajustible links so u can set camber and so on for race ready. But I'm sure I'm wrong about that😂 It sure isn't the first time
The dog one is tapered so the pin stops although the boys who raced these will tell you that they all went to steel dog ones early on as the pins can fall out.
@@rcicons4915 Initially I thought the model was going to much smaller, being called a Mini Mustang. Another model manufacturer I'd not heard of here in the UK.
The instructions didn’t look easy & great job sourcing the PB kits! To think that back in the day the Maxima was developed to take on the CAT gives a sense of the quality engineering that went into it.
It is a few minutes over a hour. Usually they are around 40 min. For me it isn’t about view count or people watching to the end. It is a documentary which means I have to show the detail. That way I can watch it 10 years from now and experience the build like I did the day it happened. I personally like detailed videos.
Been hoping a Mini Mustang was coming. As a youngster, I lusted after one.
You will see this one again as I did get the 2 speed. You will also see the maxima and ace. Ended up with them all which is unreal.
All respect for the way that car is engineered.....
Thanks.
Definitely a work of art.
Well the box art didn't do that car any justice, awesome looking kit, now you have me lusting over another kit I cant have. Thanks for all you are doing

I totally get it. You are right on the box art. Makes the car look toy grade.
Proper flashbacks to model magazine ads back in the day. Thanks massively for sharing such a cool buggy.
Very cool machine, thanks Keith!
Thank you
Fascinating buggy enjoyed the build thanks
Thank you for watching.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome build 🎉❤😊
Love the unique builds- never knew that it even existed!
I totally understand. We did not have stuff like this in the states.
Now that brings back some fantastic childhood memories my friend 😍
Awesome!
That is what it is all about.
I consider this a historical reference video. Definitely place this safely into the archives. Such a rare piece of buggy history. Awesome work Keith!

The engineering in this car is absolutely insane. Such a neat piece of RC history that most have never heard of..
It really is a marvel. Such an interesting build.
Looking forward to seeing it run and like you I'm intrigued by the two speed set up
Should be cool. I ended up getting 2 speeds for this and my Kyosho. It will be cool to see if they are alike or totally different.
Very cool car 😀👍. A very unique build of this car, never seen a rc car constructed this way, and yeah not exactly Tamiya instructions 😁.
Definitely takes some getting used to. You definitely need to understand what it is you are doing before you start a step.

Makes you wonder how the company would have faired if the box art actually matched the design. Probably would have sold double or more.
Uber cool build. Very curious to see the body on it and the livery you go with. Amazing the plastics are in such good condition.

It is my pleasure. I will be building the Maxima at some point and I finally landed a mint Ace. Life is good.
Awsome buggy, my mate had one that he throws on the track from time to time. Goes pretty well, one car i would to have but so so hard to find.
This is very true. They are around but very expensive. I actually landed a brand new 2 speed for it.

The Pb mini mustang was the better one of three it came with the two speed
PB where round a long time before the did the mini mustang maily 1/8 off road petrol. ie. mustang with its ford escort body. PB Nova. on road ect.
O yes PB Altha before the Nova.
With the shock bodies how you going to open them up if you need to with those pins at the bottom?
You have to take the shock off and hold upside down to take apart.
You have to push the pins back out to get the shock seal pack out again
It says wotld champion on the box so it must have won once or twice ❤😊👍❣️
Not sure. I do not know the race pedigree although you know how that goes. Lol
