The first moment I saw David Alan Grier on the premier of In Living Color, I called out: "It's Don No-Soul Simmons!" Everybody in this movie was brilliant.
I love Don 'No Soul' Simmons tapping his foot completely out of time to the music 😂 I don't think I ever noticed that before and I must have seen the movie several hundred times over the last 30 years!
I haven't wondered for years. I thought Alfonso WAS Don. Until now. I was so much more blissful in my ignorance. Sigh. Damn you Wikipedia for setting me right.
As an Australian who has loved that movie forever it totally cracks me up that David Hartman is not only a real person but also that HE’S STILL IN POLITICS! 🤣😫
The little touches on the album commercial are such great icing on top--pointing while he's "playing"the piano and my favorite, the peak around the candelabra. So so funny.
I saw this for the first time on TV in the early 90s when I was working late at night at a hotel and this part makes me laugh just as hard as the first time I saw it. It got to the point, after I bought it on VHS, that I only watched this movie for this part.
Old white lady here who loved this send up -- even as I love the songs in their white originals that are being sent up. I'm old enough to go back further, to songs like "I Dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair," which my mother (named Jean, born over 100 years ago -- I only remember her with dark brown and then grey hair) remembered her father, my Grandpapi, singing it to her when she was little. My mother, raised in the Bronx, also remembered to me (little teen white girl in NJ in the 1960's) trying to sneak into Harlem clubs in the 1930's. Life is sweet, when we remember through music, through shared music, and we follow music's myriad paths. Did I say I love the white originals? Did I say I love this send up? Music leads us to imagine together, or it can. If we welcome its myriad paths.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog Was a good friend of mine I never understood a single word he said But I helped him a drink his wine And he always had some mighty fine wine
I bust a gut every time I see "Amazon Women", but when Don "No Soul" Simmons"sings "Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cher-ee" from Mary Poppins, I run the risk of a heart attack from laughter.
Truly brilliant on so many levels, but his facial expressions are f’n HILARIOUS! Especially for the “Down and Funky” segment. Probably David Allen Grier’s funniest performances IMHO.
Sadly no the last time they saw Don he was in hot pursuit of women with flat butts and sampling several different varieties of cheese .... Help him Lord!!!
Jeremiah was a bullfrog Was a good friend of mine I never understood a single word he said But I helped him a-drink his wine And he always had some mighty fine wine Singin'... Joy to the world All the boys and girls now Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me If I were the king of the world Tell you what I'd do I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the war Make sweet love to you Sing it now... Joy to the world All the boys and girls Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea Joy to you and me
I think of this whenever I see a Black spokesman/woman for the Republican/Trump party. And I am left with the question, is it an affliction, or is there money in it. I suspect a bit of both most of the time.
Mr. Grier has been in numerous movies and television shows ongoing to the present time, including the recent _Clifford The Big Red Dog_ film. Mainly he's been appearing on the Broadway stage in shows such as _Porgy And Bess, The Wiz_ and _A Soldier's Play._ He got the Tony Best Actor's award last year for that one.
I see now that I was wrong... I think. I was quite unaware of his long career...or even who he was. Uh, IS. The kid in the Michael Jackson commercial is my favorite. Closely followed by his oh so famous "Carlton dance". His performance on Unwrapped 2.0 is his finest hour! It's his Mayfield Banana Split! As president of the Alfonso Ribeiro Fan Club, I just wanted to say how much of a neat guy he is!
I was BB King's security man at the venue where he performed. He was that cool in real life, folks. Just a regular down to earth guy.
That’s so cool, I heard Ray Charles was like that. Acting on stage how he would off stage
Wow.
One of my favorite guitar players ever
The first moment I saw David Alan Grier on the premier of In Living Color, I called out: "It's Don No-Soul Simmons!" Everybody in this movie was brilliant.
I may or may not have done the same...and still do. :D
I specially liked Ed Begley Jt as Son of the Invisible Man.
😎😎😎
Yup.
@@paulamiles9559 And the botched formula for invisibility causes insanity.
Got to love the guy talking about a Volvo station wagon in the middle of Detroit with sirens in the background.
Pimps sure know comfort and performance when they see something reliable.
That’s my favorite part on that movie!
BB King will always have soul. RIP.
"Amazon Women from the Moon" The entire movie is hilarious! Another John Landis classic!
Arsenio 💯
I sometimes wonder if Carlton Banks was inspired by this.
I could watch Don 'no soul' Simmons all day long. Genius comic creation.
I love Don 'No Soul' Simmons tapping his foot completely out of time to the music 😂 I don't think I ever noticed that before and I must have seen the movie several hundred times over the last 30 years!
Tapping intentionally out of time while keeping time actually takes skill, it is impressive.
The crazy thing is that, even though I'm pretty much a metal head, I'd buy Don "No Soul" Simmons' record.
Amazon Women on the Moon one of my favorites!!!
I sent $ to the address shown. Three months later I received an autographed photo of Lester Holt.
oh hell!
Hahahahahaha!
Funny.
lmaoooo
BWAHAHAHAAA
"I even met David Hartman once, what a neat guy!"
I'm finished and done lol
I wonder if they intentionally modeled Carlton Banks on Don "No Soul" Simmons...
Doug Glassman I've wondered this for years.
I haven't wondered for years. I thought Alfonso WAS Don. Until now. I was so much more blissful in my ignorance. Sigh. Damn you Wikipedia for setting me right.
"Just because I pronounce the -ing, it doesn't make me any less black than you."--Carlton Banks
I think Don "No Soul" Simmons is pretty talented.
Well, he DID turn a terrible affliction into a successful recording career.
i wonder if the character was the an inspiration for carlton banks in fresh prince of bel air
My wife didn't get this and started singing along.
Been coming here lately to link this video to discussions about Ben Carson
+biffyqueen Absolutely. I just did it as well as the Satire site The National Report just ran a piece about Carson being found "Dead Inside"...lol
why?
I lost it when he started singing "Chim-chimney." LOL.
I'm President of the David Hartman fan club!....What a neat guy!
As an Australian who has loved that movie forever it totally cracks me up that David Hartman is not only a real person but also that HE’S STILL IN POLITICS! 🤣😫

"So curl up by the fireside, and listen to the NON-THREATENING music of this master showman!"
LMFAO!!!!
This is brilliant. It looks like comedy but says so much about the music/fashion/culture industry. hahahha, loved it for years and it's still funny.
I'd like to hear the full version of his cover of "Joy To The World" (Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog) Could be definitive.
I'm more partial to Chim Chim Cher-ee myself. Probably his best work.
I want his whole album
I saw this for the first time on TV in the early 90s when I was working late at night at a hotel and this part makes me laugh just as hard as the first time I saw it. It got to the point, after I bought it on VHS, that I only watched this movie for this part.
I want the down and funky album.
Amazon Women On The Moon.
I know right? His version of "Ballad of the Green Berets" is probably worth the price of the album alone.
Sixteen Tons, love to hear that.
It might be available on 8track tape
"I gotta be me"

Grier's actually not a bad singer. His enunciation is spot on.
This satire is like a fine wine. It's more powerful and tastier now than in the 80's. Except nobody knows who Don Simmons is anymore.
I loved how they zoomed into his offbeat foot tapping.
Hahaha!! Yeah!
Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
His Joy to the World never ceases to crack me up.
I can only imagine how many takes David Allen Grier had to do to get through this. I would have been cracking up the whole time!
Watching Al Roker attempting to dance while hosting the Tournament of Roses Parade right now reminded me of this video
ManicNole

RIP B.B. King. I wonder whether he ever got enough money to save Don Simmons.
elfboi523 hopefully he saved poor No Soul
Sadly no the last time they saw Don he was in hot pursuit of women with flat butts and sampling several different varieties of cheese .... Help him Lord!!!
There ain't enough money on the planet 😪
I can't believe it's not available in any stores!
Gotta add herschel walker dancing to this.
I remember this from Amazon Women On The Moon....
David Allen Greer! What a hoot!!!
I love how he makes "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night and turns it into the most awkward sounding performance EVER!
You forgot his epic performance of "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" in the closing credits!
Not gonna lie Don “No Soul” Simmons is a pretty damn good singer
Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Women on the Moon, best fucking movies ever.
I love that "Down and Funky" includes "The Ballad of the Green Berets."
The ballad of the Green Berets ha ha. This movie is hysterical!
BB King has enough to donate to 100 black men without soul.
It takes great skill to be that dorky. David Alan Grier is awesome.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
Singin'...
Joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me
If I were the king of the world
Tell you what I'd do
I'd throw away the cars and the bars and the war
Make sweet love to you
Sing it now...
Joy to the world
All the boys and girls
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me
Never gets old
I WISH I could ever look as clean, crisp and pressed as the...um...Volvo owner. 😎
Amazon Women on the Moon is one of the best comedy movies ever made. Remember video pirates? "Oooo I'm so scared" lol
Who knew that the skit with Rosanna Arquette & Steve Guttenburg was actually predicting the future?
The non-threatning music lmfao.
i was watching in living color and had to look up this...Grier is a legend!
It's all in the details: when they show his feet and he can't tap on time cracks me up everytime
I love Don "No Soul" Simmons
They didn;t hold back on the punches in this one
What a touching and inspiring story, perhaps Don "Russell" Simmons could do cover of Henry Mancini's "Moon River".
don simmons is the coolest cat on the planet
LMAO!!! Haven't laughed in over a week, I needed that!!
One of the funniest skits ever filmed!!!
It's a skid!
This black fellow sure is neato.
I think of this whenever I see a Black spokesman/woman for the Republican/Trump party. And I am left with the question, is it an affliction, or is there money in it. I suspect a bit of both most of the time.
DAG, I'll love until the day I die.
I'd buy this guy's albums.
"We republicans have turned this country around" That's an understatement.
Those poor people.
Oh my, he's good.
Don please resume your treatment, you need help!
Your great
There has been some very exciting stem cell research that has the potential to help those just like Don “no soul” Simmons.
I'd pay real money to hear "McArthur Park" performed by Don Simmons.
David Alan Grier should be a LOT more famous.
Mr. Grier has been in numerous movies and television shows ongoing to the present time, including the recent _Clifford The Big Red Dog_ film. I called to order the album, but it is Amerisave Mortgage instead of Don Simmon's Album :(
RIP BB King 👑 Legend and Lucile 🎸
Put it on your "Vista" card.
This movie is up there with the classics.
David Allan Grier hasn't aged.
Calton Banks real dad.
Happy birthday to the late B.B. King.
amazon women on the moon may have gotten wrotten tomatoes in reviews but damn it still is worth watching
I have no idea why it would get a rotten review. I love it.
No taste
tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree and the volvo shit was so random
dammit, now I have that moronic bullfrog song in my head...
"Earworm" alert!
I'm here because I thought Alfonso Ribeiro from Unwrapped 2.0 was Don.
"..by the man who turned a personal affliction into a recording career" LOL!!
Funk'n out on that church organ!! 3:31
He's so happy. Leave him alone
My dad would love Don Simmons.
I thought he was Carlton 😂
Lenny Kravitz's Mama at :38
It doesn't get any better than this!! LMFAO!!!
DAG before ILC. Brilliant. And BB King too!
They should make a actual album of this
I need a copy of the album.
Soooooo Alfonso Riberio just pretty much stole this for Carlton right?
Still got more soul than me, I'm a white man.
Just ordered mine! Cant wait!
R.I.P BB
