I watched this yesterday at 36+5 days. I had no idea I was going into labour that night & I stayed at home to labour for as long as I could, until I felt my water break. That was about 2.5 into contractions & next thing I knew I had the urge to poop on the way to the car. Baby was born at home unplanned. No regrets, he's totally fine, but it was pretty shocking that it all happened so fast!
2.5? Is that 2 days and a half of contractions? My partner is thinking of giving up on home birth because of the contours contraction for almost 2 days now and only lost mucus plug no water broken is it normal and should we be more patient and wait for baby to arrive spontaneously ? How long should we wait ?
I’m 8 months in with my first, trying to learn as much as I can while not overloading myself or trying to get the “perfect” answers. I fear having a car baby more than I fear having to reset my mindset or whatever when getting to the hospital lol. I’ll bring my essential oils, music, pillows, support people, and just do the best I can to stay relaxed and let my body do what it needs to do. I understand the concept of laboring at home as long as possible, but I think I’ve gotta strike a balance for myself, and not stress myself out thinking I *can’t* go to the hospital until I feel this that or the other.
Most OB's in our area, and our hospital birth class that I teach, ask moms to come in to the hospital if they think their water broke. Mainly to make sure baby is safe, and then to see if labor starts. Please just check with your provider (:
For me, my first child was an emergency c-section section. I had v-bacs with my second and third children, but my water never broke. They were coming out in the sack. My doctor broke my water(s) right before they came out. I was also very fortunate enough to only push once for each. If I followed this, I would have had 2 home births which wouldn't have been good because all my pregnancies were high risk and my babies all had some sort of distress during my labor at some point.
Thank you so much for this information. Each of my births have been different and I love the fact that each time I am learning more information and gaining so much more wisdom to have a more progressive and comfortable labor and birthing experience. The thing I’ve learned the most women really don’t know how powerful we are and how our body was literally made for this. I understand there’s some women who are high risk and have to be under the observation of certain doctors and have access to certain medications and surgeries if need be. But for the women who are low, I’m here to tell you the only thing stopping you from doing a natural birth the way you were made to do is literally yourself! It is a mindset and that mindset comes down to confidence and courage or doubt and fear of yourself. 🙏🏾💕 I truly believe many of us wouldn’t have as many complications during labor if we were better prepared and better educated during and before pregnancy.
I’m laboring at home period. The hospitals (there’s only 2) around here are so bad 😢 Hell, when my nephew was born, they dropped my sister on the floor not 30 minutes after she had him. Trying to make her go pee but the epi hadn’t worn off yet, so her legs buckled under her, and NOT ONE OF THE 5 nurses in the room tried to catch her. I had to run from the other side of the birthing room to try and catch her. And she still bruised both patellas. Not to mention she has to be re-stuck 5 times for the epi bc the STUDENTS (PLURAL) kept placing it wrong. They treated my sister like a GD lab rat 🤬 And we can’t move bc the other jobs my husband applied for rejected him. So home birth it is.
My God! Now you have me curious of where you live because we are moving to North Carolina in my third trimester and it has been stressful with all the horror stories I’m learning about and if we would’ve had enough money, saved on top of us having to move out of state we would want a homebirth so I’m in search ofat least a birthing center the statistics they are not comforting at all😢
Unfortunately, as a black woman, this kind of maltreatment is common. We have to protect ourselves (& each other) from the hospital staff. There are a few medical professionals who are just that; professionals, & they are the best. You don’t know you have those people until you have them, unfortunately. Be your own best advocate. Be firm. ❤
I'm expecting my 4th living child, 6th pregnancy. My first child was born via unplanned traumatic C-section, my second living child was born via unmedicated vbac (my proudest moment to date and she will be 12), my third living child was born by another unplanned traumatic C-section. I absolutely love the idea of staying home as long as possible. If it wasn't so risky I would be having a home birth this time around put aside from cost and since I've had two c-sections already, I was not so blessed with gestational diabetes. My biggest fear is another c-section. Especially now that I have a toddler at home to take care of. I went into my last pregnancy so confident that I could push a baby out but then they started talking about how big he was expected to be, they really fear-mongering me and I panicked and let them talk me into getting a membrane sweep before 39 weeks. The second attempt actually took so I did not go into labor spontaneously and because I was just really ill equipped to deal with labor pain and they scared me when they said if I didn't get an epidural soon, if a C-section needed to happen, I would be knocked out. So I jumped into getting one which I also had with my first child that resulted in a c-section. My body didn't get to do things or move how it wanted. My plan is to go unmedicated this time and without any interventions unless absolutely necessary.
This video is literally RIGHT on time. Today is my due date with 3rd child but baby boy is not showing signs of coming anytime soon. Id love to have a home birth but we aren't set up for that. So I just want to labor at home as long as possible time. Thank you for the info ❤.
I know this is true for the majority of women but I’m glad I didn’t see it before having children! Only the last one is true for me-listen to your body. No fluids, ever. No rectal pressure. My mom told me with my second that my contractions weren’t under 5 minutes, so I should probably wait it out. The next contraction sent me through the roof so I decided to go in anyways. I got to the hospital at 9cm. 3rd one, my midwife didn’t believe I’d be having a baby that night because my contractions had been hours apart but I pushed to come in anyways. Arrived at an 8! 4th baby, I still can’t tell if it’s time until that one contraction but I rushed to the hospital and got there at a 7. This time around, I believe I’ll camp out at the hospital after any sign whatsoever so I can get help before I’m falling to the floor sobbing lol
When I was timing at home in my first pregnancy, my contractions were only 30 seconds long, but every 2-3 minutes apart, so I was actually fairly well into labor. About 45 minutes later when I was checked at the hospital, I believe I was like 5 cm dilated. Wish I would have known that before, as I had always heard they should be lasting a minute. 35 weeks pregnant with my second currently.
This is what happened to me….my contractions were only 30-45 seconds long, so I convinced my self that I was not really in active labor. Then I started to get the shakes and decided to go and get checked out. Well, I was 9cm and baby was born 20 minutes after I arrived. Also, I had no loss of fluids - no bloody show, no water breaking, until a few minutes after I got to the hospital. Everyone is different!
@@claudetherabbit For sure everyone is different! I wish this possibility was mentioned though when discussing when to go to the hospital, though. I don’t remember hearing anyone talk about it or mention it before. Perhaps it really is just that uncommon? Lucky for me, I could tell the pain was getting worse and they were coming consistently and I was calling the nurse line, and they agreed I was in active labor, and told me to wait like an hour to come in, and so I did.
Just something to note is that if you have GBS and decide to do IV antibiotics for that, most providers want you to come in soon after your water breaks to start treatment! This is true for my birth center. Thank you for the video! This one is so reassuring ❤
I love this advice. This gives me a lot of peace in knowing more about what to do when the time comes. Thank you so much for this wisdom! I really wish USA was set up for more stay at home births with real solid support. Maybe that is something we can work toward for the next generation, because in my opinion, hospitals are SOOO stressful sometimes.

Thanks for this!! My first birth was a home birth so I just trusted my midwives and had little anxiety however this time I’m delivering in the hospital so I need to actually pay attention this time
Noup rectal pressure meant for me it’s coming now. Also my contractions were never a specific minutes apart they were just weaker. With my first birth they were alll over the place. They were sometimes even 4 mins apart then 12 minutes then again 5 and so I stopped timing them 😅 i was only 1cm dilated at the time . The real sign of progress is the fact you will stop being able to chat in between and stop being able to massage your own back which I did up to 6cm dilation I would roll my fist on my back to ease the pain…. Then contractions got immensely strong and I didn’t even have 20 seconds in between them this was at 8cm the rest of my body could not function or move I could in no way massage my own back. 10mins later the baby was there. I would still go to the hospital early because i can’t imagine travelling in the car during storng contractions id rather choose my position even if it means in the waiting room at a hospital.
Same. I waited to leave for the hospital because my contractions were very short in duration. Finally decided to go when my legs started shaking uncontrollably. As soon as I arrived, I started getting rectal pressure….baby was born about 15 min later.
Yeah very brilliant video once again, its goid to educate myself already ( soon will start week 33 ) that i will be ready when its time❤ big thanks to you sharing those things to labor more at home😊❤❤
Im so glad i didn't go in until i was 6 cm dilated because the ob on call was super duper into intervention and I wanted to just birth without anything unnecessary so I was far into birth i was only there a few hours before I birthed ny son and I didn't have to have anything torturous done to me i think if you see labor is progressing fine then go at the end that being said ive been pulling calves and goats since i was a kid on the farm so I kinda just pretended i was a goat and when i started to seem like they do when they're going to push I went to the hospital because we're really not way different than farm animals
I labored really fast even with my first child. I only labored for 6 hours and boom I had to push and she came. I was barely roomed for one hour and baby came. So just go to the hospital to be safe
My labors are longer and i always stall out when i get to the hospital too early. Im staying home as long as possible this time. I want to be full blown labor before i get there.
Currently 39w6 days… no contractions, just severe pelvic back and crutch pains… especially the lightning zapping pains that go down my right thigh LOORDDD. I am ready. Idk why im experiencing everything BUT contractions. I am 2 and a half cm dilated and baby station at -2… someone help am i never gonna feel contractions??
I actually want to ask you about your water breaking and the risks that could come with it. So I’ve been watching your videos for these past few months since both my sister and I are pregnant but she was due in August. I always mentioned your tips to my sister and told her that she could definitely wait at home until she gets into active labor. BUT, as soon as her water broke with her 3rd baby she went. And they actually told her the baby had pooped inside, which could be super dangerous? But either way, she arrived 7am August 15 gave birth around 1:25am August 16th. They still made her wait and I’m sure they just monitored her fluids and told her the baby was safe and basically all the poop had flushed out? One of my fears is my water breaking and not knowing if I should go or not? What I should look for or what is a dangerous situation to look out for?
Thank you for all this information! There so many things to think about and this has helped me easy my mind a bit about when to leave to the hospital! I am hoping to naturally induce! Any tips to induce myself ?
I live an hour away from the hospital. I’m 40, first time mama, but otherwise healthy and have had a smooth, healthy pregnancy. At what point should I consider going to the hospital? Is it reasonable to wait until active labor begins? I will obviously consult my doc as well
I do 🙋🏽♀️🥰 Since I became a stay at home mom I have joined a lot of different kind of Facebook groups, which has been such a blessing with meeting people and being able to be in community where I could ask all kind of questions and get a lot of information. My husband and I are expecting our third Child and we will be moving out of state during our third trimester 🤧 I’ve already joined groups in the state that I haven’t even moved to yet and have been able to post and reach out asking for recommendations of midwives, doulas, ob/gyns, the best hospitals, the ones to stay far away from , etc., etc. So I recommend finding some Facebook groups in your area and reaching out to other moms or you may even come across some midwives and Doula groups in your area and you can get firsthand recommendations. Also this is tried a true method I’ve used and many other moms ..I’m not just telling you something I haven’t experienced lol I was blessed with a doula in my last trimester with my son because I reached out to my tribe and they were able to even help us with rent since my husband took off to be with me and the baby. I hope this helps. God bless 💕🙏🏾
Hi Chanel☀️ I’m expecting my second child in July. My 1st pregnancy resulted in an emergency c section at 37 weeks. The reason I went into the hospital at 37 weeks is because of decreased fetal movement. If that should happen again should I go to the hospital or wait it out? Really hoping for a VBAC and experience actual labor and delivery this time around 🙏🏽 Btw there were no complications with my 1st pregnancy. I just happened to notice he wasn’t moving as much.. Thanks in advance ♥️
Not necessarily. If you plan on getting an epidural, you can choose to go to a hospital earlier but they still usually won’t admit you before a certain point.
Hey im 38+4 days pregnant with my first baby still no contraction no pain no pelvic pressure…is this normal ? Trying walking ,exercises nothing happening What to do please share your inputs
Okay I tried for a vbac last pregnancy it my water broke and no contractions started on their own so we had to go to the hospital and got induced.. ended in another c section. Now we are trying to have a VBA2C in July. I’m trying all the advice everyone gives. Any advice this time around? How long can I stay at home if my water breaks at home?
It’s just discouraging cuz everyone else came like 3 days early before their date… then there’s me, FTM, due date is tomorrow, i have never felt a contraction. All im feeling is the stupid lightning crotch ans pelvic/back pain. Is it possible to just one day feel contractions every 10 mins or something?
I never felt any contractions until it was the day of giving birth. Everyone is different! Don’t get discouraged. I also dont seem to dilate before so I stopped cervical checks
Not necessarily true but hospitals push it. Evidence shows women whose waters are clear and odorless are truly not increasing risk of infection before 48 hours but risk is still fairly low. Tons of cervical exams can increase risk of infection.
So my first i wemt WAY too early 🙃 second baby I waited much longer but still labored 3.5 hours at the hospital. However, with my third I am 40 minutes from the hospital. The 4-1-1 pattern freaks me out cause my drive is so far i dont want to have that much pain in a rush and i know labor can move quicker with each pregnancy. Any advice? I do have a doula who will be with me while i labor at home.
Was running to toilet and every 40mons was getting pressure and urge to open my legs when lying down. Ended up going to hospital and was told you dont have contractions and as its your 6th baby you will have pressure. Ended up staying at the hospital and giving birth. So always listent o your own body soemtimes the midwives dont know.
To each your own,❤ I really want to avoid hospitals as much as possible lol I’m currently pregnant now and moving out of state in my third trimester so hopefully can at least get to a birthing center but after this baby, we will be saving up to do home births from this point forward so much more comfortable for me than the hospital and all of the chaos.
As informative as this video is all I keep thinking is THIS HAIR! So beautiful! Thank you for such high quality content!
Yup! I thought the same hehe
I also love her hair cut. I wish I had a stylist that could achieve this shape but I always end up like a poodle. Alsooo…Currently 37 weeks pregnant 😂

Hi Chanel☀️
I’m expecting my second child in July. My 1st pregnancy resulted in an emergency c section at 37 weeks. The reason I went into the hospital at 37 weeks is because of decreased fetal movement. If that should happen again should I go to the hospital or wait it out? Really hoping for a VBAC and experience actual labor and delivery this time around 🙏🏽
Btw there were no complications with my 1st pregnancy. I just happened to notice he wasn’t moving as much..
Thanks in advance ♥️
How did it go?
I definitely felt rectal pressure because I had to go to the bathroom but couldn’t 🤣 how in the world would someone get through that?
Does this still apply when getting an epidural?
Not necessarily. If you plan on getting an epidural, you can choose to go to a hospital earlier but they still usually won’t admit you before a certain point.
Hey im 38+4 days pregnant with my first baby still no contraction no pain no pelvic pressure…is this normal ?
Trying walking ,exercises nothing happening
What to do please share your inputs
Very normal. Most babies don’t come until after 40 weeks. Be patient and let baby choose their birthday 🫶🏽
Question: What if your water breaks and you are group b positive, do you still try to stay home until your contractions pick up?
Nope
However go with your intuition. It’s a high risk infection if it were to be transmitted
Docs/midwives prefer you go in if your + just to start you on antibiotics
No u need to be at the hospital earlier to get set up with antibiotics
Thank you all so much for your responses. I agree that if my water breaks I'll just head to the hospital to start antibiotics. Better safe than sorry.
Nevermind I’m listening to the part about it now!
I hope it cleared things up!
Oh wow I hope you get your vba2c I'm trying for a vbac as well. Praying we both succeed in the births ❤
Praying your birth is smooth and pain free in Jesus name
It’s just discouraging cuz everyone else came like 3 days early before their date… then there’s me, FTM, due date is tomorrow, i have never felt a contraction. All im feeling is the stupid lightning crotch ans pelvic/back pain. Is it possible to just one day feel contractions every 10 mins or something?
When baby is ready, you’ll know it’s the big day. Most first time moms go past their due dates.
That makes 2 of us. I am 39 weeks plus 6 lot a pressure but no contractions and I've never experienced natural labor.
I never felt any contractions until it was the day of giving birth. Everyone is different! Don’t get discouraged. I also dont seem to dilate before so I stopped cervical checks
@@storytime9915Same!
Thought baby has to come out within 24hours of water breaking.
Not necessarily true but hospitals push it. Evidence shows women whose waters are clear and odorless are truly not increasing risk of infection before 48 hours but risk is still fairly low. Tons of cervical exams can increase risk of infection.
Am 41weeks+4days no water broke yet 😢
Hang in there Mama you got this 💕🙏🏾
Oh my, God be with you
@marynjeri777 how did it go with you birthing
What makes me afraid of going early is the way they poke their fingers into our privates to check dilation😢...first pregnancy tension.
Remember you have rights! You don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with.
Too many ads 😡
I just pay for premium so it’s wild when I see comments like this because I forget normal UA-cam has aids 🤣
A girls gotta make her money
Not a great idea to stay at home.
Not a great idea to potentially spend days in hospital when you could just wait at home for early labour to progress.
If I never have to go to a hospital again in my life, I’d be fine.
