      @@VegasFilmCritic Oh, glad you responded. Ever meet him and Gene, which I also asked? As to your advice, yes, I did agree with a lot of what you said. To take Siskel and Ebert though: Neither one of them had planned to be a film critic when they grew up, it just happened. They did love movies as kids and were going to them and did get jobs in newspapers as columnists before the job of film critic was given to them. Gene majored in Philosophy at Yale and Roger was in journalism, if I remember correctly. They learned on the job, but being writers, that did help. They have also given advice that you can see on here as well.

    Thank you for the video! I'm thinking of becoming a UA-cam film/TV reviewer. I found your advice to be quite appealing in comparison to all the other how to videos out there on this subject.
    Look forward to other advice clips from you.

    I've built my career in a different industry, but I am passionate about films and would love to build a name for myself, so I'm thinking about doing this part-time and using a mentor. I've been to several screenings and have a specific genre of films I am drawn to.
    On that note, what would you recommend as a good starting point for a 37 year-old husband, father of 3, in a Mon-Fri 8 to 5 career, and is currently going to school? How can I start expressing a constructive point of view and building a positive reputation without having to impact my family or standard of living? What can I do to start without having to start over?
    Let me know.
    Thanks!

    How much can film critics make? How much do you usually make reviewing films?

    • @VegasFilmCritic
      @VegasFilmCritic  7 років тому +1

      Depends on the outlet - are you a full or part time with media company (TV RADIO PRINT) or are under contract for getting paid for each story for websites. It all varies.
      Bottom line is get that degree in journalism and make those contacts and internships that will get you paid.

    Hey i've got a question i'm hoping you can answer. I've seen a ton of movies i'd like to review, but i've seen them quite a bit ago and if i rewatch them i'm afraid i wont get the same emotions i got the first time so how can I review it properly? Or maybe i'm just confused but i'm curious on your opinion on the dilemma, also great video by the way!

    How do you get permission to show movie clips? Considering the Copyright issues. I don’t want any copyright strikes. Thank you for your input.

    • @VegasFilmCritic
      @VegasFilmCritic  4 роки тому

      You can't. You have to be licensed by the studios and networks to use their clips. All is used with permission.

    Can I be a film critic without a degree

    • @simonemichelleheinis
      @simonemichelleheinis 4 роки тому

      Short answer is yes. To work for a company such as the New York Times, they like to see education, as this guy says its a good foundation. But you can forge your own path and garner a reputation which will allow you to make connections in the industry and ultimately work as a film critic. There's a lot of avenues for writers.

    I disagree about watching all genres of movies. You don't have to watch all genres of movies. Pick a genre(s) you love and study it. I will never watch romance, vampire movie, rom-com, comedies, fantasies and some others because I don't enjoy them. The only time I've watched a genre I didn't like was for a class I was in.

    • @VegasFilmCritic
      @VegasFilmCritic  2 роки тому +2

      And to think that somewhere in those banned genres of yours, may lie your favorite movie of all-time.

    Rated K Never Used a Degree, Why? you might ask, BECAUSE THEY WERE KIDS, FOR KIDS BY KIDS REMEMBER. And they Reviewed Films Such as Flight Of The Navigator, Benji The Hunted, STAR TREK IV THE VOYAGE HOME, Poltergeist III, WILLOW, Little Shop Of Horrors The Remake, And An American Tail, 1 Film they Reviewed was the First Film I saw without My Parents, SHE'S THE DUMMY, this man is having a Nervous Breakdown.
