A cup of tea, feet up and listening to a very enjoyable interview.. I have the rule set and will be rebasing some early HYW figures to play, using your list. Thanks Nick.
Glad you enjoyed the chat and the rules my friend! Looking forward to your feedback after your first game! Let me know how it went. Thank you for watching!
Good interview 😊 Very interesting to hear about the campaign system and alternative armies ... Looking forward to those .. Also to seeing more content of these rules on Your channel 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Dear Ray! I am also looking forward to the new supplements. I am starting the Barons War Campaign using Midgard rules next year. Hopefully you will enjoy it!
Excellent interview, very informative. Like you I think this is an excellent set of rules which, along with Lion Rampant (large skirmish) and The Barons War (small skirmish) will form the nucleus of rules going forward for me with medievals. As you say, the new Impetus. The bonus is that you can use (rather than have to shoehorn) the rules in a fantasy setting too, we plan to use them for Lord of the Rings, allowing us to get many more of our figures on the table at any one time and, as James pointed out, most of these fantastical battle settings are based on medieval / ancients warfare anyway with very little magic being flung around. I’d love to see a Barons’ War supplement at some stage so fingers crossed.
Thank you Dear Edward! I agree with you, it's really exciting to see such a flexible rule set that can handle both historical and fantasy battles. All the rules you mentioned are perfect choices for wargaming. I am looking forward in all Midgard supplements and the Campaigns hopefully i will playtest a couple and give you feedback. Thank you for watching my friend!
Super interview, it was very interesting and a great accompaniment for a painting session :). I have already bought the rules but it was good to hear the reasoning behind their creation and also to see that James seems like such a nice person. I must say that I only recently discovered the "Medieval Wargamer" channel and am currently working through your videos, I really like the style, very much like I would do them if I had the skill/time to do them (!) so I am so pleased to have found the channel, a little different from others and one that makes you want to come back for more. Well done indeed. One question for James if he's reading - have you ever tried to teach/play with the rules (or a simplified version thereof) in the classroom? At a show in Italy recently (I live in Milan) I saw a chap who plays DBA/DBM at middle-shools using Playmobil Romans vs. Celt/Vikings on (obviously) big bases, and he says the kids love it... maybe it would be a way to start catching them for the hobby using Midgard too...
It is always good the hear from the author explaining his philosophy behind the rules. Thank you Dear Andy really glad you are enjoying the channel content! Sure have a look around there are some older videos that are really good. Let me know if you need any help to guide you. I am sure James will respond he follows the channel. i will remind him as well. Thank you for watching my friend!
@ Hi there. Yes. James said "England", but there were a few people playing up here in Scotland too. The thing that bothers me about many fantasy rule sets is that situations that do not work, are handwaved away as "it is fantasy". Midgard has believable, workable basics, so they worked for my early medieval battles I tried at first, and then the more fantastic elements I introduced did not dominate those basics. Thank you for the interview, it drew out some ideas in the creation that I was unaware of. You take care!
Great I would have loved to be a play-tester for Midgard.. maybe in one of the future supplements..Thank you dear Colin glad you enjoyed the chat my friend! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@MedievalWargamerAnd I will be sharing links to the interview elsewhere too! I have been watching, and enjoying, your channel for a little while now.

Playtester location - And Scotland, James, and Scotland
Hi Colin thank you for watching my friend! Did not understand your comment were you a Midgard playtester?
