    I love those trucks! Even more than the new ones. I still have a 73, 76 and a 78. W200, W100 Power Wagon adventurer sport and D100 3-on-the-tree. Beautiful trucks.

    Great video! Wasn't even born when this was made.
    I'm from the UK and have a 1978 dodge d100 custom with a modified 360 small block.
    Absolute animal on British roads with the amount of torque it's got! So much fun to drive... Especially sideways with the tyres smoking 😂
    Very rare here. Everyone with old yank trucks has ford's and chevys. Never actually seen another '78 here which is cool.
    Most people think it's a c10 at car shows then scratch their head when they see dodge on the front.

      This is 8 mm and I've not recolorized any of my 8mm collection. The 16mm film I've uploaded has 100% been color restored. But I did just recently found a person that can help me so my full collection of very red Mopar 8mm film is gradually going to be restored. It's expensive but I too want to see it in a format closer to it's original release. So soon....starting with the car videos first, then the truck

    My first vehicle was a 1979 D100 Stepside 2WD Slant 6 Auto. It seemed "old" at the time but it was 1991 so it was only 12 years old when I got it for $700. Today a 2008 truck that's 12 years old doesn't seem quite as old. Miss that truck.

    • @Kingfisher1215

      In 1991 they were still selling the same basic truck design til 1993 so the 1991 Dodge Full size truck and ramcharger were still that 1979 truck you had but with fuel injection etc

    The Chrysler starter sound seem to be a popular effect everytime a car or truck started on a TV show or movie.

    • @scrambler69-xk3kv
      @scrambler69-xk3kv 3 місяці тому

      It was brilliant. With its reduction gear it gave the starter more torque to turn the engine over with more grunt and at a faster speed which really helped your car or truck start during the cold winter months. Chrysler's slogan back then was extra care in engineering. And in the 1960's and 1970's Chrysler cars really were very dependable. Always heard the GM and Ford boys screaming about how Chrysler's rusted. But I will tell you my dad was a GM man and every time we got a new car it was because the current one was rusted. He took care of them garaged them washed and waxed them and they still rusted. Salt on the roads and weather too cold to wash the salt off during the winter months meant rust. Everything rusted back then.

    Always liked that body style of the dodge truck....

    • @mharris5047
      @mharris5047 2 роки тому

      There were a lot of them considering the same body style was built from 1972-1993. I had a 79 and an 85 (both one ton trucks with a 318 in them), both served me well and they saw heavy use. The 80 quarter ton my father bought was a piece of junk, though. The 225 slant six in it needed a ring job at 85K miles and the wiring harness had to be completely replaced about the same time. The body also rusted all to hell in five years. The truck didn't see hard use, my mother drove it and it barely saw the woods and didn't see heavy loads.

    Back when you could afford a new truck.

    • @mharris5047
      @mharris5047 2 роки тому

      I paid cash for a new Dodge one ton pickup in 1979. It cost about $7,000. That truck would cost about $50K to replicate today. My father bought a Dodge quarter ton pickup in 1980 (he already had a beefier truck for work, this one was for my mother to drive). That one cost him $5,000 including tax and registration. Now they don't even sell quarter ton pickups but a half ton is about $40K plus options.

    Heavy duty flasher? I was perplexed by this for a minute. I think maybe with trailer lights in addition to vehicle lights it might throw off the blinker speed since the old ones used to work on heat to break the contact. I guess it could over heat as well.

    I'm still not sure why these were so rare. Maybe its a California thing, but the only ones I ever saw were company trucks and bottom of the line beat up trucks. Seems like nobody bought the top of the link Dodge. My neighbor had a '78 Chevy camper special 454. Decent truck, I guess he was just familier with chevies and liked them, but I prefer the looks of this Dodge.

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  4 роки тому +4

      Ford and Chevy dominated the Pickup Truck Market thru the 60's and into the Mid 70's. Dodge was only about 15 % to 20% of the market, you had Jeep and International too and GMC. Ford and Chevy was king. They are rare because they were rare when they were new. Totally different today with Ram nipping at the heels of Ford and Chevy slowly tanking in the sales department. It's extremely hard to believe that Chevy has dropped so far down in sales so that they are actually in third place now
