- Filmed in October before the travel ban, and I had the most incredible experience with the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. If you ever get the chance to go up North, you have to go! You won't regret it.

The polar bear is like, "Oh brother, not _another_ proposal, yawn."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He’s clearly one of those UA-camrs who truly cares for their content and viewers
Yep. I’d say so, anyways, but I’m biased 😄
@@DownieLive yes
Clearly. What an amazing video
Thank you for supporting the people of northern Canada - they’ve been hit the hardest with all the travel bans - your videos will inspire others (& me) to visit once it’s safe to do so. Churchill is definitely on the bucket list!
Well said!
It's on my bucket list too! 🙏 Luv Polar Bears and Beluga Whales, both temporary residents of Churchill. 😍
We are going to visit you !!!
@MLWATKK Thank You so much. You are very kind. I had never heard of Tadoussac but it's now on my Bucket List! It looks very pretty - nice and small! Luv the Beluga beach sculptures. I believe that U can also canoe with Beluga (Jun - Sep) in the Churchill River, Hudson Bay. It must be the most amazing experience. It would be like heaven on earth to me! They are such sweet animals. All marine life is very precious. 🐬🐳🐋 Thank You for sharing! 💕
“Once it’s safe to do so” it IS safe to do so. Don’t let the continuous lockdown rhetoric win.
That was amazing...you actually witnessed a proposal...fantastic just being there at the right time....oh, great bear shots as well!!
Yes! Thank you!
It’s like a double rainbow
Imagine she said no and that guy got denied in front of 50k people and 1 polar bear
@@anthanyd7898 hahahahah
The proposal brought an unexpected tear in the old man's eyes. Loved it!!
Even the guns in Canada are friendly.
Lol
If you think we are all friendly, you don't know many Canadians. Some of them have guns with bullets to kill.
@@sweiland75 Not legally, unless they are in specific occupations or for at inanimate targets.
@@sweiland75 lol even when they try to sound like a bad ass they just come off as cute. :)
@@sweiland75 I think it was a joke
Having a polar bear witness your marriage proposal. Could anything be MORE Canadian!? 🇺🇸🍓
A Canada goose or moose will do
@@WikkyPlays more like killer geese
Yes.they could’ve been sipping on a cup of hot chocolate from a Tim Horton in the middle of the arctic, with a side of toffee. That would be the most Canadian.
Yes a beaver lol.
Sitting here at the start of our Australian summer, its 6.30am and already 22 deg C.......and I have tears pouring down my face at the beauty of those amazing bears and that gorgeous scenery. Thank you again Mike for taking me places I will never go to see sights I would never otherwise see.
Wow! Thank you so much, Heather, and you’re so welcome!!!
You have my utmost sympathy Heather, half 6 in the morning and its freakin scorchio time already. I'm in soggy blighty, land of the poms, its 6am and minus 4 at the moment, and I'm loving it, cant stand hot weather I like what the summer brings except the bloody heat but you can't have it both ways can ya. For all I've said I would love to visit your country one day.
Sitting here in Central Western Europe, minus 8 celcius 2 days ago, snow covering everything, having to take vitamin D supplements to avoid health problems due to lack of sunshine , and sunsets that begin at 4:15 pm, envious, of your Southern hemisphere weather
Weirdo
My parents went to Churchill before Alzheimer’s took hold of my father. He talked a ton about that trip. Maybe one day I’ll make the trek. Great video.
I genuinely think this may be your best video I’ve seen! It’s so awesome to get the feeling of adventure while locked down in California. :) Thanks for adventuring for us and how fun for this couple that they have a video of the proposal!
Wow, thank you! I really felt like the day couldn't get any better, and then it would, every time! It was amazing! I'm so glad it came through in the video as well. Thanks so much Alyssa. Have a great weekend.
Wildlife safari, Canadian style. One of your best videos. Also, amazing how huge the Canadian provinces are. Two days by train or a five hour flight from Winnipeg to Churchill.
Yes they are!
Honestly, the first thing I do when I get enough money is to take that train from Winnipeg to Churchill and vlog this trip like you did. Very impressive, mate!
Sounds great!
It’s important to define a territory of where the bears are not welcome - and to make sure they remain wild & fearful of people. Otherwise if they started to feel comfortable with hanging out in town there’d be problems.
There are problems because of this exact behaviour in this video. . The bear was scared off by a shot by the unseen group of people, and the second group proceeded to follow and try to find her again. The most dangerous animals here are the humans.
@ScienceVideosFan nothing wrong with sharing a habitat. You have to remember that even in cities they are encroaching on wildlife and so are wildlife into human territory and there are limits. The presence of bears means the ice has melted and it pushed them back to the land it does not mean the presence of bears shows humans are encroaching, however. it's showing coexistence because the natives have lived there for many many years and have coexisted.
So cool to see this. My Dad was in Churchill training in the "70's! They slept in sleeping bags....in the snow. Thanks for this Mike.
Very cool!
You say “This is DownieLive”, polar bear says “this could be lunch”.
:)lol
DownieAppetizer.
Lol true. Weren’t you all afraid with the polar bear near you when the guy proposed to his girlfriend
😆
A Churchill polar bear tour has been a bucket list item ever since a coworker did it nearly 20 years ago! What beautiful but wild animals.
Came here to watch DownieLive stayed for the Proposal. Might as well call it a polarposal
Years ago my brother canoed from Minnesota to Hudson Bay by himself.
What? How...
@@MrSab177 it took alot of research to find rivers and creeks that were deep enough to get there with portages short enough to carry everything. The day he turned 50 he bicycled from Wisconsin to Seattle WASHINGTON. He's kind of crazy
@Ricky M when he needed to come home he jumped on a freight train.
Lake Winnipeg drains north to Churchill. An old voyager route from Grand Portage, just in US from Canada on Lake Superior goes to Winnipeg, joining that anywhere, especially Lake of the Woods would get you to Lake Winnipeg.
www.northernontario.travel/paddling/mapping-the-canadian-canoe-trail-from-lake-superior-to-manitoba
Hmm, that is not the voyager route through Lake of the Woods, it goes north in Quetico. There is a nother more southern route.
Very cool. I knew a guy who tried to go from Winnipeg to Churchill by himself in a canoe. Luckily he got severe food poisoning when he was only a week out and relatively close to civilization. It's the funniest story when he tells it. There was a Manitoba 'reality show' or I guess a better word is 'reenactment' of the old fur trading route to Hudson's Bay called Quest for the Bay that your brother would find interesting if you can find the entire series. Here's a trailer... ua-cam.com/video/eL-kXk2cS0w/v-deo.html
Absolutely love your videos. Thank you for sharing the world with those of us who cannot do these things anymore. ❤️❤️❤️
Love, love, love your videos! Family is a nice addition to your travels as well. Keep filming, please!
So cool.
And so romantic for that couple 😻.
Those bears are amazing, and such gentle looking ( but dangerous) giants
I used to live in Churchill, I grew up there and I find it so funny watching these videos because they’re shocked that there is a polar bear warning sign😂😂 but it was so normal when you’re living there
I love you travelled with your Dad! Thanks for sharing your beautiful experience!
Great video, and the proposal was awesome! The bears are so beautiful, just out there living their best polar bear lives. Love it!!
From Patrick (4 years old): “when the polar bear jumped up right next to you, were you scared? It could have bitten your finger off! I love your videos. This is the end of this message, but like you always say: I don’t know where I’m going next, but I know I want to watch your videos!”
Hahaha. I wasn't too scared. He seemed more curious than mad, and I was up too high from him. But always best to be on the safe side.
Best video ever with the polar bears and the proposal. Maybe next you can film the couples wedding.
Ahhhh, now that would be fun!
Well add that to the list of places to visit. What a great combo of history, adventure, and wildlife!
Fantastic Michael. Thank you taking me along and seeing the polar bears, just wow!
Geez there's so much in this life that I'll never get to experience for myself. This world is freakin great, but you need about 10 lifetimes to see most of it.
or a lot of money
Started watching your videos recently, you def deserve more subscribers! Excellent production Mike.
Welcome aboard! I appreciate that, Jim. We'll get there.
What a fantastic and unique way of proposal... a life time memory for the lucky couple.. i wish them best.. stay happy

Just discovered this channel today, and I'm loving all of it!
Awesome, thanks! Welcome aboard!
Awesome video as always and there's a part 3, can't wait.
This is so beautiful and breathtaking. Awesome proposal. Happy it went smoothly. Keeping an eye out for your next adventure
The bears are just beautiful! This is why we need to take care of the environment, to protect these magnificent creatures.
Awesome 👍 I thoroughly enjoyed this, wow, polar bears in the wild. Living in California this was almost like watching a winter ❄️ wonderland! Continue the great work Mike!
Thank you very much!
That is one of my dreams - to see the polar bears in a wild nature so close and safely! Amazing! Thank you for sharing this video with us!
This has to be one of my favorite videos! Yeah they do look so cute and cuddly.....Lol. Getting engaged in front of a sleeping polar bear has to be something they will never ever forget! How lucky you were to see so many!
So lucky to see it all!
UA-cam recommended you today and my expression throughout your video was "Woooooooow". Take my sub.
As a Canadian stuck in Asia, this is great! Feeling still connected to The True North strong and free!
I did almost the same trip 11 years ago. The middle of October is the best time to go to see polar bears in their native habitat, right before the bay freezes over and the bears leave. Churchill is a great northern community but it is remote. They have been through a lot, first damaged railroad tracks that took forever to repair, I believe the sea port closed (?), and now covid. The train is much cheaper than flying into Churchill and it also helps local people travel between communities, there are no roads. Anyone that is looking for adventure up north should visit .
Great video!
Words fail me. This video makes me so happy. Thank you.
Awesome Mike! We miss you two!! Hopefully we can meet up in another wildlife capital of the world 😁
Yes! I’m sure we’ll meet again!
Awww, that is the most Canadian proposal ever!!!
Kudos to you Mike, you got some great shots, a proposal that a couple won't ever forget & a epic journey with your dad...all on film...I love this channel, it just keeps getting better & better !!!
Ahhhh, it was an incredible experience! Thanks Stacy!
Really like your videos and the narration. Love the fact that you also take your father, mother or sister on your trips. Makes the trips so much more memorable. Looking forward to visiting Churchill as and when some normalcy returns.
Again you have out done yourself. So glad you and your dad went together. Good health and God bless you.
Polar Bear: Thats Michael Downie, I gotta say hi!
😄😂
I live in Churchill and have seen COUNTLESS documentaries and Vlogs about it. I must say this 3 part series is one of the best and most entertaining I have seen so far! Very well done!
Wow! Thanks so much, Austin 👍🏼
6:30 cutest proposal I have ever seen 😊 pure from heart 🤗
Every video/adventure you make/take leaves me saying "I want to go there and I want to do that". Can't get enough
Love that!
The amount of times I finish a downie video and then look up flight or train ticket price is insane.
I assume you get some of your revenue from the places you sponsor, cause you do a great job of selling me on their services/locations!
Will be waiting! Mike have you heard the saying “Brown hit the ground, Black fight back and White good night” ! Never tested this! Let me know how it works please! 😃🤣👍
Hahaha. It was up there that I heard it for the first time.
"and da gummi? goes in yer tummi!" you left out the last two lines Larry!
Was just trying to remember this saying, cheers
Ah that is .... breathtaking. Thank you! My travelling days are long over but .... What magnificent creatures they are.
Thank you so much for sharing!!! Amazing I can’t wait to explore new places!
Thought I seen you in town. All tourists stand out. lol Glad you enjoyed our little northern town.
Hahaha. Particularly with my neon green jacket 😄
Thanks for having me.
That proposal was awesome .congrats to the lucky couple. Amazing video mike , they keep getting better and better
Glad you enjoyed it! It was such an incredible couple of days. Still a lot more to share with you. Thanks as always Shawn.
The proposal was amazing, relationship goals traveling together to see polar bears. ❤
The cutest part of this video was the young couple, wish them many happy years together.
This pretty cool video.
This was incredible Mike! Wow...Seeing the mama bears and their cubs was so cool. I can only imagine all the feels of actually being there with them in person. Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much
Thank you so much for sharing this. As a South African, I'm very used to safari experiences....but yours is now WAAAAAY up on my bucket list to visit! As a Canadian, I just can't wait to connect with my late Dad's family there, and learn some more about this wonderful country. Thank you for doing what you do!!!
You are so welcome
Absolutely amazing !!
Such a unique town and experience. It's great that you got to spend it with your dad. Really enjoyed this video.
Great memory for the newly engaged couple. Great that you were there to video for them. As always Mike, a great video.
Nice! One of my dreams! Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you very much!
So much wonderfulness in one video. I smiled the whole time watching it. Thanks fir giving me something to smile about today Downielive ♡
You’re so welcome, Cherie! You deserve it. Enjoy your weekend.
Thank you for sharing the journey. It must have been an exhilirating experience being so up-close. I'm looking forward to the next video about life in a northern town. Looks like I couldn't resist The Dream Academy reference.
Wow, I can’t imagine what an adrenaline rush that must have been being up close and personal to these magnificent animals. Thanks for bringing us along Michael!!!
Yes it was!
Was there a witness to your proposal?
Yes... it was a Polar Bear!
OH Canada!!
Thanks for sharing, that is amazing pictures , have been to several towns in Canada, but but unfortunately only the touristy once like Vancouver, Whistler and Banff. Would love to see more of this beautiful country. One day I will, it's on my bucket list!
The Polar bears are so majestic, I had tears! The only time I've seen them live was when I was a kid at Stanley Park, that bear pit 😬. I'm going to do this trip, thank you for sharing! Your videos are so authentic, I enjoy them
Dude tonnes of love from India.......
How blessed you are to ... (a) make lifelong memories with your Father (b) see nature in its own environment up close. (c). live in Canada 🇨🇦. Wishing you, your Mom and Dad and your Sister a very happy holiday season and a safe one too!
Incredible video! Thank you for sharing. I took the train to Churchill last September. One of the best trips I ever went on. I was lucky enough to see polar bears and beluga whales. And the vastness and beauty of Hudson Bay. I was in awe. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful video! Thank You! The breathtaking beauty of nature and real people! What could be better?
One of the top channels on UA-cam. Restricted traveling has really allowed some cool in country trips. Train trips look so cool.
Wow, thanks!
@@DownieLive ….no, he's right - I just discovered you several days ago … enjoyed it all - from returning to places we've both seen, to discovering new experiences you've provided. Congrat's , Mike - you are the essence of good UA-cam.... Grin, and bear the accolades.
Thanks so much, Dave. I hope I can keep it coming for you.
Waiting
Seeing polar bears and cubs up close and a marriage proposal? I needed this after a rough couple of days. Thank you so much for the video and keep up the great work.
No worries, Rob. Glad I couldn’t brighten your day a bit.
I found your channel yesterday - first video was your amazing VIA Rail trip to Prince Rupert. Absolutely loving every video. Thanks so much for bringing beautiful Canada to your southern neighbors (and of course from across the world)!
Awesome, thank you!
Greetings Mike! Wow!!! That was absolutely fantastic and really entertaining. I actually thought I was watching a wildlife adventure on public television, followed by a reality show with the marriage proposal. Great job sir, and many thanks!
Hahaha. It was a very unique experience, for sure!
Thanks as always!

kind of reckless of them that polar bear could've got up at charged at them and had a tasty snack in a split second
Wasn't that "propose to"?
Very cute Polar Bears. Thank You for sharing! Keep safe.
Adding to my list of places I want to go when I can travel. Thanks for all the great videos.
lol why is the driver dressed like an old timey prisoner?
Cheap and disposable clothing.
I think he was preparing for Halloween. :) :)
He’s in a work/release program from the bear jail?
Halloween
I was wondering the same thing hahaha
This is appropriate me drinking Diet Coke while watching people looking for polar bears lol.
Mike, This was fantastic. These bears are majestic and so interesting to see wandering with their cubs. I love it when they get up on their hind legs. It reminds me of the summer I worked in Yellowstone. We would go to the garbage dump to see Grizzlies. They would also rear up and show how big they were. Loved the proposal. You are making such wonderful memories . Thanks for taking us along.
OMG!!! such a lovely bears!!!, Thank you so much for this video, I enjoy your experience a lot!.
Congratulations for your trip. My best regards from Mexico. 🙋♀
If someone invites me to go somewhere epic like this I would definitely say yes I am so done with staying home .

My guy is fresh out a prison lol
All videos I've watched about Churchill they have moved so emotional. It seems like a magical experience being there. I cannot miss it. If I ever get a chance to go I really hope I can do it.
Stumbled upon this channel through yt recommendation and now I can't help myself but watch your videos. Great work 👍
Woo hoo! Thanks UA-cam!
And welcome! Enjoy the adventures.
You stepping your game Mike ! Up close and personal with 🐻❄️ and a nice surprise engagement 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 awesome video !
Thanks 👍. Such a crazy time!
Apparently, the best time to go to Churchill is Oct & Nov...I guess I'll have to wait till next year :(
July and August are great as well because you can do beluga whale watching. The whales will come right up to your boat or kayak and you can touch them! The river is PACKED with baby whales and their mothers. Even in summer there are random polar bears in and around town, but Oct/Nov is best for bears.
Cool video man, thanks for sharing your adventure. I'm in southern Ontario and I sometimes forget how damn big this country is and all the amazing places it offers.
Thank you so much man, very rare video. Worth watching. Kudos from India!
As a Canadian, a trip like this is added to my bucket list
Who else was waiting patiently for the mama bear and two cubs to break out the coca-cola???
You get the award for most unusual video.
Truly impressed.
Thank you for sharing.
Hi Dad!!
Phenomenal! And I'm looking forward to next week's tour as well. Now to go over to Insta and see what you've posted.
