edit on the Open Water review: it’s not written like ‘she went to the bar’ ‘she talked to him’ like I said, it’s written as ‘you went to the bar’ ‘you talked to him’. So it is written in second person, I just described it incorrectly! My apologies 🩷 I read a lot of books written in third person, not second person, which is why I found that perspective a bit more difficult to read 🫶🏼

girl, serpent, thorn is indeed a standalone and it was really good!!! i read it a few years ago and remember LOVING it!!! it's quite beautiful and the main character is super sweet even though she has such a poisonous touch. super soft girl energy 💗💗💗

The way you’re describing the writing style of Open Water is the exact writing style of Intermezzo by Sally Rooney. I’m reading it now and I’d say definitely skip that one if you know that style isn’t for you ❤

Actually second person is “you did this… you looked there… etc”. First person is “I did this…”. Third person is “she did this… or Katie did that”. Most books are either in third person or first person.

Second person is when the author is talking to “you” directly. The whole story would be written with “you” as the pronoun. What you described is third person narrative!
