I think what happened unfortunately is people saw it and thought that is odd seeing a woman holding a knife but didn't think that it's for any nefarious reason. She wandered that store looking for the perfect victim. She walked by them and turned around and followed them out of the store to complete her crime. She's going to claim mental illness but she blew it by stealing that knife and walking around that store and finding her victims and following them to their car. Purely premeditated all the way.
