Tablo is an amazing lyricist. The song/MV is about how difficult it is to move on after ending a relationship when you have constant access to what your ex is doing on social media. Before social media, you ended it and that was that. No contact. Now, as the lyrics say, you can see what your ex is eating for every meal, where they go, what their new hobbies are, who they are dating, who they marry. It can be addictive, just being obsessed with keeping track of your ex's life instead of living your own. You can say you're fine, but you cut yourself off from daily living and moving on. I think the last scene was amazing. Hoshi fills up the sink and then the phone goes dead. I think he finally realized what his addiction was doing and he "killed his addiction" by killing his phone.
In the mv, hoshi is stuck in an infinite time loop and it’s like all the other members of epik high are versions of his character, as if he’s conjured them up so he can get away from the past (however you can see they are all stuck staring at their phone so it’s pretty impossible anyways), for instance, in the car mithra of epik high is driving but when it crashes, hoshi comes out, earlier you can see the car travels past a sign that says past/present and he tries to go towards the present but the car crashes and he’s back to where he’s started at the restaurant and so he’s always stuck checking his phone in that time loop and the video basically goes back to the beginning, it’s soooo cool!
Epik High have a special place in my heart. They are the grandmasters of Korean HipHop. They also do this soft and calm music like this song with Hoshi. Tablos lyrics are one of the best in the industry. They often do collabs with other Artists like Hwasa,Zico,Wonstein,B.I,Crush,Lee Hi etc…. I recommend Rosario, Born Hater,Rain Song, Super Rare to you.
Tablo is a genius. I love his solo work. He is also a phenomenal poet who has books of poetry. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English! I’ve been following him for 12 yrs.
Tablo graduated from Stanford where he majored in English and creative writing and was supervised by Tobias Wolff. He’s such a huge talent and the funniest dude. His whole story is so interesting.
I really love how you went for a deeper meaning than the simple "phone addiction" thing you might see just looking at some of the surface level visuals. The phone is definitely a part of it, obviously, but it's just the method for holding on to the semblance of a lasting relationship with someone who you no longer have in your life. There have always been people who find it hard/impossible to let go after a relationship ends, I think most people at least find it HARD if they don't hold on too tightly to the idea of the connection lasting still... but being able to feel like you can still maintain a more intimate connection to the details of someone's life wasn't possible in the same kind of way without the technology and window into people's lives. The dancing scene... I feel like he was escaping into movement until he saw the connection between those two people and then he felt that feeling of loss again that made him want to "reconnect" into his phone. When I first watched this MV though I took it in a completely different way when it comes to the parts with Hoshi in them - I actually thought he wasn't present in any of those scenes, but he was feeling as though he was there because he was watching his ex so closely through his phone that he was experiencing them vicariously. I changed my mind about that, but I still think it's interesting, I thought of that with the Mithra wedding party scene, too - thinking he was imagining himself present at his ex's wedding due to seeing her wedding photos. Anyway, it's a gorgeous piece of art and the lyrics are expressed so gorgeously in the MV, and the use of light is so gorgeous. I loved your point about the people in the group meeting who were watching him strictly through their phone screens - I think about the times I've seen Seventeen tell audience members to stop filming for just this once and fully enjoy the encore song Aju Nice this one time or whatever, like - being present vs always experiencing reality through a filter of your phone.
Epik High is definitely worth exploring, especially their older music. Pure poetry in a verse. My recommendations are: - Pieces of You - Lessons 0 - 5 - Over - Mister Doctor
Tablo is so good at bringing up and shining a light on social issues. That was one of the things that drew BTS to them I think. OG Korean hip-hop masters!
This song and the message it’s really powerful actually, and the video it’s so well made, also Tablo said that hoshi it’s like trapped in on a bucle, so it keeps going and going. I love your videos 🫶🏻
The madness was caused by someone bumpinginto someone on their phone causing that person to drop their phone and having an out of proportion response to that. Like what often happens with addiction. You take away what you're addicted to and you blow up because that person is keepi g you from what you feel is what you need the most at that time.
i miss your livestreams most of the time but i watch the uploads and this time i'm really wishing i was there live with yall 😭i love this song and i am an Epik High stan and i just love watching people recognize the absolute genius that they are 💜
Epik High is that good. I'm glad they have the recognition 20y after. Such big influence to our bangtan too, just check the titles of their albums ;) And yes, Tablo was in Suchwita as he deserved. Yoongi is a highskool (Epik High fandom) ;) Tablo is a mastermind.
Here's some more info about Epik High, to help you get to know the members! There are 3 members: Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz (pronounced two-cuts). You know Tablo already, he's one of the rappers but he's also a composer/producer. Mithra is the rapper that was holding the phone in the wedding party and driving the car with the woman on it. I love his flow and delivery, he's very talented. Tukutz was the one in the car on his phone while the water was pouring in. He's the DJ so he doesn't rap in the MVs, but I love that they give him cameos. He makes the beats and does a lot of the producing (along with Tablo), but during their live performances he sometimes raps and fills in during the chorus or feature parts (and of course has his dance breaks, we love our Main Dancer Tukutz 😎). I think their live performances are where they shine the most, the energy is always next level.
Ok Cap'n ... now that i can see the images and read the lyrics ... I probably would have said disconnect and, as i knew i could, the couch crew's discussion was spot on as usual so i was wise to trust it. #smug 😏 💜

And this is why I watch your reactions. I saw the opening scene and went "Huh, did they borrow the set from Seven?" and my mind skipped sideways to JungKook so kinda lost the thread a bit. Good that you went back to the beginning for your interpretation. I love Tablo's lyrics, they are beautiful at whatever level you wish to engage with this song. I only know Tablo and Hoshi from Suchwita but clearly they deserve more attention. This song is a commentary on not being able to let go, and how modern tech enables and feeds this obsession. Deep work, worthy of the masters of k-pop who were such an inspiration to BTS. Loved Hoshi's voice - loved him in their "Fighting" as well. Thanks for this reaction, Roscoe!
