Hey Rich, I'm new to aviation and am a massive fan of your channel! Easily my favorite aviation channel on youtube, possibly my favorite channel all together. Just wanted to drop a comment and say thanks man.
I had an '04 and really loved it. My main use was a utility aircraft that allowed me to move high-value equipment for my business. Not exactly a thrill ride....but sooooo useful. My business rarely told a customer 'no' when I had this.
Seems close in price to new for 14 years old. At least you're not going Full CarMax and asking MORE than new! Thanks for the cool vid and SoCal scenery.
Looking at the power settings you were flying it at, it seems a bit slow for a 182T. Indicated 124-126kt. Ours cruise at solid 140kt just under the yellow arc. I wonder if VGs are slowing her down?
Honestly - I thought the same thing but we were low so not sure. I have flown that same one at 7500’ and the speeds were normal. Thanks for the message.
Great stuff Rich thanks. Oh by the way can you maybe do some more Phenom stuff 300 or 100 . I loved the piece you did with John and his 300 Phenom. I have watched nearly all of your videos, some of them more than once.
When you start talking about the history of the 182 2:23 you’re talking to a GoPro but what are you using to mount it like that? I’m assuming it’s nothing permanent since you move from plane to plane.
Rich - other than the avionics updates, do you see many noticeable updates in these 182’s throughout the years. i.e. Is a 2016 182 almost the same as a 2021 182 except for the G1000 internals?
Correct - 2007 and newer are really the same all the way up to 2022. They did go to newer 3 in 1 standby electronic flight instruments but that’s upgradable (same with NXI). Thanks for watching!
I prime them cold with throttle all the way in - fuel flows much more rapidly, less use on the pump/battery was always my thinking - probably splitting hairs though!
Very nice we used to rent one those w/pilot $68 wet out of Bermuda Dunes from their flying club stable , Pilot David Cheshire fun stuff priceless , thanks Rich OCR
Could we get an STC which would allow us to run this engine at full RPM? 2700rpm, and if so would it make $285 horsepower or with this one be $310 horsepower? I hate that they've detuned this engine to make such little horsepower. Every time I watch a video where they have put the 300 horsepower IO 550 everybody says that is the right amount of horsepower for that airplane. The same like coming engine can make 310 horsepower, why don't they just put that in there? Since this engine is bent detuned can we just run into 2400 RPM all day long?
As far as I know, no way to crank up the HP on the 540s in the newer 182s. I think there is an STC for a 260HP 540, but I believe a different variant and not turning up RPM. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoy your channel! I am new to aviation and have learned a lot about various planes and avionics thanks to the great information you provide in your videos. I am taking my first exploratory flight in a couple of weeks and I am so excited for it! :-)
I have VGs on my 2004 C-T182T & notice that power on stalls are difficult to demo because of a much lower stall speed. Prob best feature of the VG is the added safety margin for low level maneuvering like in the traffic patterns.
They used to bolt turbo chargers on NA engines and has some issues. The news are turbo charged out of the box automatic wastegates, and de-rated so pretty solid engines. Thanks for watching!
@@FlyingwithRich you don't really benefit from the turbos until you get like 10,000 ft or more, correct? So for most people that stay under $10,000 you'd be better off just getting a bigger motor, old playing with the io 550. Do you agree?
Tough call - benefits to both the 550 upgrade (you can’t do that on 182T), and the stock TIO 540. I like turbo charged airplanes, and you are correct on paying off at higher altitudes. Also benefit on take off performance at high density altitude airports. I really like both options so I guess really depends on where you are operating and budget. Thanks for the message.
I’m not to excited with what the information on the feds are raising up the interest rate again Rich and if it happens we will see prices on aircraft drop tremendously but overall there are still buyers for these T 182T and the new 172 price of 2022 is at $600K
Morning Rich , Nice plane ... you wouldn't know what this coming weeks winning lottery numbers are ? ( you can PM me ...I promise not to tell anyone else 🙂 ) And I come see you pronto
Somebody always calls that out saying it’s Revolutions per minute so you don’t add the s on the acronym. Tough habit to break, and what about when talking about a twin!
182 was always my favorite airplane since I was a kid. I fly RC planes and the 182 is my favorite model.

Nice use of a 182 - tough to beat! Thanks for watching.
wow, what a beauty. Somene is going to love this plane. Another great video!
Thank you!
I love the Cessna Skylane
That landing was butter. Nothing like flying at dusk in calm skies. Great flight Rich.
Thanks!
Keep ‘em coming Rich👍
I’m loving the new intro! Great video per usual 👍😎
Will always be a great allrounder. Thanks Rich
Thank you!
Beautiful pristine Cessna. Thats not gonna be lonely long as the song goes!
I think you are right! Thanks for watching!
👍🏻😎 Another one of my favorites from my flight line tech days at Ryan Aviation back in the mid 80's.
Very nice. We had a 182Q. Great plane overall.
Love all the 182s. We might have a 1960 182C coming in - looking forward to seeing/flying it!
Great job Rich!
New sub! Liked 🐸🙏🙂🙂✌️😊
Tower at end of flight seemed to be enjoying his call-outs
I’ll talk to my son in law he and my daughter need this beauty.
Nice job Rich as always
Thank you Ryan?
Beautiful, great plane

Yeah - available now for $100K less!

Rich you forgot to give me a call on this flight 😀
Yeah the 182 is a very appealing aircraft. Didn’t realize production numbers were so low.
Sad but true, Cessna/Textron 182T deliveries - 33 in 2019, 27 in 2020, and 38 last year!
Also, in the early 1980s, product liability was a major legal factor for Cessna shutting down the single engine production.
Correct.
When you start talking about the history of the 182 2:23 you’re talking to a GoPro but what are you using to mount it like that? I’m assuming it’s nothing permanent since you move from plane to plane.
Yeah!
i also like the 172 model
Bet it gets bought from Florida. Good luck Rich your the best.
Thank you!
Does this engine have lower compression ratio because of the turbo? Or is it regular in the turbo system is actually a turbo normalizer?
Turbo normalized.

Personally, brand new I think I would prefer a 206
I would love to have a 182T, but my wife has one leg and the cockpit climb is a challenge.
Thanks for watching!
Throttle & Mixture in during fuel prime, or was that a hot start?
I prime them cold with throttle all the way in - fuel flows much more rapidly, less use on the pump/battery was always my thinking - probably splitting hairs though!
@@FlyingwithRich Makes sense . . . Six of one . . . 1/2 dozen of the other - HA!
The last 182 I flew was a 74 P model. Are they still as nose heavy in the 08 model?
Feels very similar to the earlier 182s. Thanks for watching!
Very nice we used to rent one those w/pilot $68 wet out of Bermuda Dunes from their flying club stable , Pilot David Cheshire fun stuff priceless , thanks Rich OCR
Lovely aircraft! I bet that NXI upgrade cost a lot 😂
$35K

@@FlyingwithRich Thank you, Rich! All the best.
Wow, why the need after all these years for full span VGs???
Slower stall speed than clean wing. I agree - how much slower do you need to go in a Skylane, but pretty cheap upgrade, and makes a difference!
I have VGs on my 2004 C-T182T & notice that power on stalls are difficult to demo because of a much lower stall speed. Prob best feature of the VG is the added safety margin for low level maneuvering like in the traffic patterns.

@@FlyingwithRich I Believe the DC7s were Turbo Supercharger and intercooled monster's.
Correct!
I think it goes without saying that the high wing Cessna's are the aviation equivalent of cardboard.

625,000 for a 2008. Or 725,000 for a new one. New one every time
I would buy a new too at $725k , but don’t that’s possible.
Too bad these things have only a 950lb useful load. The R models would have close to 1200lb useful load with the same exact wing…

@@FlyingwithRich no, this video was the first time I've ever heard that it was a problem, I say it just like you say it

Looked at this plane a year and 200k ago … nice bird, but the priciest out there
Lots of upgrades since then!
Great airplane but at that price range, not attainable for most people.
