I had a question. I have a Canon 5D mark 1 classic and haven't touched my camera in years. Have been feeling the urge of getting back into it - specifically in food but haven't got lighting. My friend wants me to do a shoot indoors at his new restaurant - there is decent light which comes in, but only about 75 - 80% max. If I use a sheet or baking paper and a LED light from my phone, will that act as a decent diffuser?
These little lights are just fantastic, I mean look at how simple that setup is. No cables, setup and strike in like what, 28 seconds? The results speak for themselves (on top of the craft and other pointers you make). Great video dude! I've been waiting for this one! How is it Thursday already?
Yeah man I think mini LED panel lighting is the best thing to come out in the lighting world in the last few years. I think a lot of people sleep on them too because of the assumption that BIG lights = better light. Sure it’s easier to get softer light from a larger source but the creative possibilities from a small panel are endless.. and like you said the setup is a BREEZE. Cheers man!
A year later and this is still the video I send to anyone who asks how to take good pictures of ______ indoors. I’ve also added a few more black shelves to my own kit to provide artificial backdrop smaller than a whole table. Thanks again for putting this together!
This is one of the best food photography tutorial videos I've ever seen. Love the pacing and style you used and the IKEA table tip was priceless. Really nice job Patrick. Your channel just keeps getting better and better and better!
I’m not above using the floor as a backdrop either 😂 and you’re right, the lighting for food is SO unforgiving. Thank you for these tips it was exactly what I was looking for!
Very helpful, thank you! Have a Nikon 3100 and I am intimidated haven't touched it since college and feel a little more comfortable with my phone right now but still haven't found my style but this is a great base! Thanks again!
Great Vid, but i have to say damn you... the AL-MX was in my amazon cart... guess I have to buy it now. Also fun fact, at a lot of Ikea's (whenever they open back up again) have used sections where you can almost always find a gem of a surface to use.
I have an updated video on even higher quality food production techniques if you want to check that out too: ua-cam.com/video/06ojJSzyEWo/v-deo.html

yeah man IKEA tables are the best surfaces for the money!
Does the cover on the Aputure AL-M9 works as a diffuser? Or would I need a separate diffuser in front of the light to soften it?
you should diffuse to taste
Love this, so easy to understand thank you! Does the tripod come with it? Or should that be purchased separately and can you recommend one!
Tripod is separate just find a cheap table top tripod on Amazon!
@@impatrickt Thank you! 🙌🏽
Patrick, how often do you use your moment lenses vs. the built in lenses/
i hardly ever uses moment lenses anymore unless it's the anamorphic for video/travel!

Well, NOW I'm hungry!
Can you do a food photography and video taken on mobile phone both apple and Android ??
May I know what video camera did you use? No product was found on the link.
I used my phone - that was the whole point, the camera doesn't matter.
Dude you're a wizard - never has a dirty great burger looked so good.
Fantastic work 👏
haha that whole sequence was hinging on an Uber Eats fast food burger. I took it out of the bag like it was an organ transplant.
@@impatrickt 😂😂😂
what tripod do you use for the MX LED light?
Sirui! There's a review on my channel of it.
So with ordering the tables, should I order two of each color so that I could have a consistent background?
It’s up to you and what look you want. I don’t think I’d like it all one color. But it’s subjective.
Hello Patrick,
May i put your video on a website to promote this awesome way of photography?
Sure.
@@impatrickt Good man, thank you. I will send you a link, so you can see what it looks like after.
Of course, you'd use the sun.
This is Tech Today Thanks to Aputure for the SUN.
Patrick you have video on editing Im clueless on this🤣🤣🤣
Should i blur out the background & how much blur is good or bad??
up to you what you like best! no right or wrong.
