@Portugal2100 Wow! I had no idea cork could be used to manufacture so many fashionable products. I might have to purchase one of those umbrellas. Thanks for the suggested search. Regards from Texas.
many wineries are moving towards synthetic corks. there are some benefits, the possibility of a wine being corked is lessend, and many claim it retains an airtight seal better than the real thing.
with cork some Portuguese companies are doing more products than the typical one to use in bottles, just google "pelcor" and you will find more about what kind of products we are doing. There are more companies doing every day more and more nice products but that one it is probably the best. regards from Portugal
12yo comment...wondering what I'll find. Thanks for the search. I'm heading to Ecosia right now. They plant trees when you use them to search...not cork ones tho ;)
@PyroDesu Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's not like the tree makes the cork for us, it must have a use for the tree, otherwise it wouldn't make it.
If this 15yo vid has hit the algorithm...bc I've no idea why it was recommended to Me...I predict a decent likelihood that it'll blow up, similar to a champagne cork.
"They'll be able to harvest it many times over the 150 year life of a tree" Wow, what a useful statement. They couldn't be bothered to do 150÷9=16.66 and say something like "They'll be able to harvest it over 15 times over the 150 year life of a tree" instead
i too am fascinated by the world of corks and corking. they should make a follow up video to that on what happens after the cork is used.
Great video, I had no idea there was so much work in making something as simple as a cork.

Being an avid wine drinker, I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you so much! Very informative. I'm sharing this on my website :)
dunno why but i've always wondered how they were made. . lol. thanks for the post!
Those trees are called "Sobreiros". Here in Portugal we have good corks and good wine in addition to other good things.

i always thought they were made of rubber or something synthetic
I love my country :D

Fascinating.
3:10 shes gonna be a hella good basketball player... throwing without looking
1:19 the cork was whispering to the guy.. >_>

the stripping itself might not hurt it. but the vulnerability of the tree increases quite a bit.
Wow.
Bark was there to protect it from bugs and the elements
removing it does hurt it
why not crush everything up and make corkes that way?
that's a lot of manual labor for punching them, you'd think there would be a machine for that
As a industrial process engineer and watching this, there is no wonder spain is in economical stress.
That's what she said!
Wow very informative video, but, I would not want to have the job of punching the bark. Looks like an easy way to lose a finger.
@Clanguage1 yeah i know
i didnt know corks could fly
Why dont they just use plastic corks? Wouldn't that be easier and better?
down with screwtops bring back our corks
Stand back, sir, I have been trained for five years in the fine art of bark-stripping. This is not a job for amateurs.
stripping the bark from the tree does not hurt it. I don't believe that.
What do you believe the bark's function is?
i have a 2 meter cohk
Less workers?
Lol corks can fly
Yea dude, when winter arrives they fuck off back to Portugal.
Look it up, its true.

I talk to much
I should put a cork in it
sure... industrial engineer of ignorance,
why r u talking about spain in this video?
watch the video again...
