- UCLA Global Studies lecturer Benjamin Radd joins LiveNOW's Andrew Craft as more worldwide reaction is pouring in after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
In a statement Monday, the U.S. said it expresses its "official condolences" for the death of Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation. It added that as Iran selects a new president, the U.S. reaffirms its support for "the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms."
State media reported that the leader was found dead this week at at the site of a helicopter crash after an hours-long search through a foggy, mountainous region of the country’s northwest.

"Condolences"?!? For Ebrahim Raisi, aka the 'Butcher of Tehran', who used rape as a political weapon, he had his own people beaten sometimes to death by rhino whips. Ebrahim Raisi has a bloody history of murder and mass executions of thousands. He was a key member of the so-called "Death Commission" which ordered thousands of political prisoners to be killed in 1988, as Iran's eight-year war with Iraq ended. He led Iran's nuclear weapons program as it enriched uranium to weapons-grade levels so Iran can have nuclear weapons with which he has pledged multiple times to "turn Israel into a sea of nuclear fire"!
He ordered the torture of pregnant women, had prisoners thrown off cliffs, had people flogged with electric cords, and personally oversaw countless other brutal acts of violence. Iran comes in second only to China for the number of executions it carries out. He had 30,000 men, women, and children held in prisons across Iran lined up against a wall and shot in the span of a few months. To save money on guarding and feeding them.
Brutal punishments including hangings from cranes, electric shocks, and guillotined fingers and genitals are meted out for even the pettiest of crimes.
No honors are deserved for this pure evil monster. The world is a better place for his absence in it.
