Key diplomatic events are taking place this week here on the Korean Peninsula.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Pyongyang early this morning, for the first time in 24 years, for talks with his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un.
This comes amid increasing global concerns over their closer relationship particularly at a time when the Ukraine war in still ongoing and North Korea continues ratcheting up tensions in this region.
It's the topic of our conversation this evening.
I'm Yoon Jung-min, filling in for Han Da-eun.
And to give us some insights, joining us in the studio is Dr. Go Myong-hyun, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for National Security Strategy.
Also, we're joined virtually by Dr. Evans Revere, Former U.S. Acting Assistant Secretary of State.
Thank you for joining us, Dr. Revere.
Q1. Putin last visited North Korea in July 2000 where he held talks with late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and issued a joint statement. How have the security dynamics surrounding the Korean Peninsula evolved since then?
Q2 What significance does Putin’s visit to Pyongyang hold given North Korea's current political situation at home and abroad? Some pundits say not only Putin but Kim Jong-un also has a lot to gain from the visit.
Q3. Putin's two-day visit to North Korea was cut short due to his late arrival. His jet landed in Pyongyang well past midnight. Putin is notorious for his tendency to be late, but what are you reading into this?
Q4. the Kim-Putin summit will likely yield a treaty on a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” What changes would that bring to the current burgeoning military and economic ties between Pyongyang and Moscow? And what message are they sending to the West?
Q5. Traditionally, North Korea and Russia don’t reveal much about their agreements but in your view, what other agendas would take center stage during the rare summit? Aside from military officials, key figures in charge of the economy, space, and railroad were spotted at the expanded meeting.
Q6. Most experts have played down speculations that Putin and Kim may restore past military alliance treaties between North Korea and the Soviet Union that included a clause on military intervention in contingencies. What’s your take, and what level of North Korea-Russia military partnership are we expecting then?
Q7. Many North Korea watchers say that Putin is unlikely to offer his old friend any sensitive advanced nuclear and missile technology. What are your thoughts?
Q8. Putin and Kim Jong-un reportedly had informal talks throughout the day, such as taking a walk together or having some tea. We believe the two men spent nine hours together today. What could have been discussed in a more relaxed setting?
Q9. North Korea has recently been constructing walls and digging roads on its side of the demilitarized zone along the border with South Korea. And a group of 20 to 30 North Korean soldiers working in the DMZ briefly crossed the border into the South yet again but went back after the South Korean military fired warning shots. How do you see the North’s latest activities?
Q10. High-level South Korea-China diplomatic, security talks were held on Tuesday in the South Korean capital. Seoul expressed concerns over Putin's trip to Pyongyang while Beijing only reaffirmed its earlier stance that it'll play a "constructive role" in resolving regional issues. What do you read into China's response?
And that brings us to the end of this show.
Thank you for watching, and be sure to tune in same time tomorrow to join our conversation.
    Good bye for now.

The Korean expert is completely inadequate and does not understand the situation, it is a pity that South Korea does not understand its role in the world and its real political weight

Yeah he really thinks South Korea now has more political weight than Russia. When in reality they have just increased more trade with other countries.
