    I’m from Northern Ireland and after sampling a few at Bushmills, I got the 16 for my birthday recently and I absolutely adore it. I am mainly a rum drinker with a large collection but I’m just making baby steps in the Whisky world and the 16 has certainly pulled me in.

      Awesome story, and that you drop in and sample at the Distillery would be amazing! The 16 is an excellent dram for me. Thanks for sharing, cheers!

    I'm from Northern Ireland as well. I did their tour recently and it was just ok. I've since toured Arran distillery and it was much better. I really want to like Bushmills but I find it hard to do so with almost all of it being chill filtered and colour added as well as 40%. I do enjoy the 16 year old finished in port pipes. I've never seen the 12 year old in this form but I have seen the distillery reserve which is 12 years old. I'm currently trying to enjoy their Causeway Collection 10 year old finished in Pomerol casks but I'm finding it hard. I prefer Scottish whisky but I'm glad that folks seem to enjoy Bushmills!

      Thanks for sharing your experience here. Unfortunate the tour was just OK. I keep thinking if I make it out, all of these tours will be amazing! I have not had the Causeway Pomerol, but I did like the one finished in Cognac. Cheers!

    Haven't had either in a while, but I have enjoyed them in the past. Shame, however, about the ABV and price. Nice all the same. Cheers Jon.

      I have been pleasantly surprised and how good the flavours are. Still, how great would they be at 46% and non-chill filtered! Thanks for dropping in. Still hoping strength will return and you can share a review or two with us. Cheers!

      I knew I needed to get to the 12 year and then the 16 almost landed in my lap. It seemed like a good idea to taste them together. Cheers!

    Not had either of these, but I thoroughly enjoy Black Bush. Can't be whacking your liver with heavy hitters constantly. It's nice to have tasty lighter options to reach for!
    There's a good reason they've been in business for hundreds of years. That doesn't happen if you're putting out a mediocre product.
    I'd likely go for the 12, price and availability considered.
    Neat Tuath, don't think I've seen one before. I've been looking for a copita Sherry glass, supposed to be great for nosing and tasting. Found a couple of Nespresso stem glasses for intense coffees in an antique shop, and they actually work beautifully for whisky!
    Cheers Jon 🥃🥃

      The 12 is a great treat, and certainly more affordable. Cool Nespresso glasses. I will look out for them, I feel a bit stagnant in my glassware. Cheers

    I have only had two Irish whiskies. Writers Tears and I just bought Red Breast Lustau. Your video inspired me to crack open the Lustau(not that I needed much nudging) Happy Birthday!

      @WhiskyNeighbour  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, and I hope you enjoy Lustau. I enjoy both Red Breast and Writers Tears. More than Bushmills, but a light, fruity dram, each of these are full of flavour!

    Love seeing bushmills get some love. One of the only 40% abv released whiskey that can hold its own. People that dismiss it outright by seeing that are missing out. Bushmills also continues to be in the lower end of pricing for similar age statements and that 16 on sale was exceptional.

    • @richard9045
      @richard9045 Рік тому

      At the lower end of pricing? What market are you buying in? I live under 50 miles from the distillery and can buy WT101cheaper than a 10YO Bushmills! About £8 cheaper ($10).

    • @DarkCloudWhisky
      @DarkCloudWhisky Рік тому

      @richard9045 in Canada the 10 year runs 55 bucks Cad or 32 gbp, when compared to other whiskeys with similar age statements the bushmills are definitely on the low end.

      @@DarkCloudWhisky Seems like 101 cheaper in both markets! You can buy Bushmills cheaper than me unless I can find an offer. My palate prefers a stronger dram nowadays hence 101 or craft presented Scotch. Slainte.

    One of the only frustrations I have with these whiskeys is that low proof and added colour. They're lovely drops, but I just feel they could be a bit better with a touch more proof and honesty.
    And yay you got a Tuath glass!

      Agreed on a bit more ABV and always disappointed when someone colours their liquid. That said, I continue to enjoy these. Cheers!

    Bushmills is my local distillery, I've done the tour a few times and enjoyed the craic and the bar at the end of the tour. Despite this I've not yet tried those releases, purely because of pricing and presentation, they are just as expensive in Northern Ireland as any where else and a 16YO at 40% abv, probably chill filtered and colour added is just shameful in my opinion. There are better presented Scotches and a few Bourbons available to me which are much better value in my opinion, I'm glad you enjoy it but it could be so much better! Slainte!

      There are certainly many 46+%, non-chill filter I have on the shelf, but I am enjoying these. Very fresh for summer. Thanks for sharing!

    Great review of the Bushmills 16 & 12. I've never had 16 but I recall enjoying the 12 before. Definitely a good staple Irish to have in your collection. What I was impressed with more was their NAS Blackbush offering. I really enjoyed that one for a while before moving on. I wish the 16 had some integrity elements plus at least a 46% to offer. I would grab it in a heartbeat if that were the case.

      Certainly would be amazing to try at 46 amd non-chill. Still, this is very rich and I enjoyed it.

    How would you compare these to Green Spot and Yellow Spot? Is the 16 better/more enjoyable than either of the Spots?

    • @WhiskyNeighbour

      Tough call. For me, I prefer Yellow Spot. But the fruit notes on the 16 are fantastic.

    Those prices sound very reasonable for aged-stated Bushmills (typically priced over the odds here in Texas). Thanks for bringing them to the channel!

      @WhiskyNeighbour  Рік тому +1

      I know most will not give them a chance because of the low abv, but I will say, they are very tasty. Fresh almost! Cheers!

    During my whisky/ey journey, I've enjoyed Bushmills, including the 16 YO. But with that presentation - 40% ABV, etc. - for me, these do not warrant a repeat purchase. There are now many other Irishes around, however mostly overpriced. But when the price/quality ratio is right, I pull the trigger. A recent one I liked is Limavady ‘Single Barrel’.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  Рік тому

      I have not had Limavady. Good to know it is quality and not that hard on the pocket book. I am enjoying these, despite their weaker abv. Fresh fruit almost. Thanks for sharing!

    Kilbeggan distillery is the oldest 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  10 місяців тому +1

      No doubt. However, they would argue 1608, not 1784. Which would put them ahead of Kilbeggan at 1757. However, I really do not know enough to actually wade in to that! Thanks for sharing!

    I got so burned out on tasting different whiskies all the time. I switched to Gin mainly in martinis and that's my choice for refreshment. The Scotches I found I can't go without though are Glengoyne 10, Arran 10, and Loch Lomond 12...I don't know why?
