As someone who can only shmup on Novice modes, I'm a little sad about the naming of Super Easy mode and what it might mean. Obviously any easier mode is going to not matter to a real shmupper's skill, but "Super Easy," makes me feel like it will be one even I can clear on my first or second go, like DFK or Espgaluda 2, and not something that's a bit crunchy, like Mushi's Novice modes.
Machine translation is getting pretty good, almost making knowing Japanese obsolete lol. A couple minor quibbles: it's really saying "includes super easy mode that anyone can clear" and "of course, contains M2 gadgets to help clear the game and arcade challenges [implies there are other features like this but does not list them]." The sc looking text says "now comparing..." etc but that doesn't really change the point.
My daughter, who is 8, loves to watch me play shmups, but they're too hard for her. She really likes the Super Easy modes on the M2 ShotTriggers releases because it lets her play the same game as dad
Awww, that's so sweet! ❤️ I love how M2's releases make it clear that shmups can be hard if you play them seriously, yes, but that in the end, they're for everyone to enjoy!
That is a fun use ha. But I still maintain that super easy is much too easy. I bet it won't take your daughter long to beat it, then the divide between it and arcade is very massive. A tougher easy mode would be much better in the long run

Imagine the genre in ten years if kids cut their teeth on shmups when they're 5, 6, 7...? Also, the genre is so daunting to those teens/adults who have never really played shmups. A lot of people, including myself, look at a game and feel that it has a fair or balanced difficulty, only to then see someone struggle with it immensely. One tends to forget that the average lay-person can't even beat the first level of Super Mario Bros. on their first try. My daughter has difficulty holding a cup full of milk without spilling it, so asking her to grind out a shmup without an easy mode is a big ask. It is easy to forget the lack of fine motor skills that children possess.

For sure, M2 have done amazing work, so i trust them to release an other great port 🙌

Yeah I m totally fine with it being on the PS4. PC version would be cool but the PS4 version performs rock solid so there s no drawback to it really I don't think. And at this point they have made enough of a reason to own a PS4 just for their games

Legit your "Top 30 Shmups of All Time" video randomly stumbling into my UA-cam recommendations one day is what got me back into shmups; I haven't touched the genre since the Mega Drive before then. And DOJ being at the top of that list always was a sore spot for me, since Garrega and Ketsui had modern versions I could play, but not DOJ.....until now!! Even though I know I'm never gonna be good enough to clear it, I'm excited as hell to get my hands on this. PS - Happy holidays my dude!
How the hell did I miss this announcement!? I swear, whenever I start forgetting about the ShotTriggers series, they announce something new. Fantastic choice for their next port - my personal dream would still be a port of Ibara Kuro, but there's a reason DOJ has its legendary reputation for sure.
The PS2 port is called White Label, that port has also a gamemode called Death Label, which is the bosses, but way harder, aaaaand has a Double Hibachi at the end (literally, 2 Hibachis)
Gonna be awesome. I look forward to see what gets added in. I would love to see some DDP and a Batrider/Bakraid combo release from M2... Hey - a man can dream. But I'll be very happy to play a new port of DOJ that doesn't suck.
Looking forward to it a lot as well. Though I do think they should keep adding the super simple modes. I truly believe this is an awesome feature for people new to the shmup, and the ones who still suck at them after years of playing, but still enjoy the easy modes like myself 😉
This will be an insta-buy on the ps4.The hård drive has plenty of room as it's basically just an M2/ACA machine! I thought I was nuts when I bought it just for that, but I don't regret it one bit. BTW Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thanks for another year of superb content.
Good video. I know Switch has more lag but kinda wish it had a version. Also liveWire seems to do a pretty decent job of their ports. Above and beyond city connection at least.
Yeah a switch version would be cool too for handheld :-) also yeah livewire are solid, def better than city connection, but they just cannot match the power of m2 shottriggers, their ports are works of art
Yeah I d love to see that too! I imagine though that the amount of quality they put into their ports is time consuming though, so it s a double edged sword. It takes forever, but the releases are amazing
That's why I love M2 joints. They cater to all skill levels. Ketsui's arrange mode is a godsend for a scrub like me and Esp Ra. De.'s custom mode allows me to tailor the game's difficulty to something resembling a "novice" setting.
The power of save states my friend, plus the custom mode can add in a lot of cool stuff! I d love to see a custom mode autobomb feature for new players
Awesome news. They couldn't have picked a better one to do next. I don't think we're going to get it anytime soon though, because they still have to finish up the Ray-Z collection and the total time between that and the Same! collection was like half a year. It figures that the wait for DOJ will probably be until near the end of the year. But for all the care they put into their ports, it should end up worth it.

First, merrx xmas! But you almost got me angry there, Mark. No body gives a shit about super easy mode? Oh, come on man. Not everybody is that good at shmups. I could only play Ketsui and Garegga thanks to this mode. Without this mode, bullet hell shmups would be even more niche then they already are.
Merry Xmas! What I meant about super easy (and I think I clarified what it meant) is that super easy mode is actually too easy and even new players don't like it. There are much better versions of novice modes (like in crimzon clover and gunvein) that are more compelling. I think the super easy modes are the weakest aspects of their releases. Honestly changing settings in custom mode is a better easy mode

Amazing. I will be pre-ordering as well. I have this on PS2 and 360 but I've never played 360 since it's region locked. I'm a huge shmup fan but newer to the genre. I'm really not all that good and I like their super easy modes! I always start with them and can usually get a no death clear using auto bomb, then I move up from there. Or with the Toaplan games I usually just stick with super easy since the auto bomb pretty much negates the check point system. Super easy opens the games up to a much larger audience.

Man I was looking up if there was any way of getting "Magical Drop" games on PC and found "G-MODEアーカイブス19 マジカルドロップDX", I checked it on Steam and apparently there is a DoDonPachi DaiOuJou "G-MODE" version, and "G-MODE Archives is a reissue project that faithfully recreates old feature phone games as they were back then." lol
Absolutely love their work on Ketsui and BG, but seriously, start doing PC ports. Really on the fence whether I will purchase specifically because of the choice to avoid pc ports.

Been hoping for this ever since they did Ketsui, now they have done a port of Garegga, Futari, Ketsui, Dangun and DOJ. I'm literally done, i don't need anything else.
New fan of your channel here. I'm contemplating taking on DOJ as my next project in terms of modding in some fanmade achievements and leaderboards. Arcade shmups are probably the most neglected genre in the retro achievement hunting/modding community, and I'm doing what little I can to help turn that tide. By the way, would you be interested in giving feedback/suggestions on my design before anything goes live? It's to help make sure I do this masterpiece justice. In any case, keep up the awesome content.
This and Espaluda's perfect arcade ports already exist on PS2. These excellent 1:1 arcade ports even support 240p and TATE modes. Why do we need multiple perfect arcade ports? They already exist and easily accessible. They should do other shooters that until now do not have decent ports. Some worthy titles would be Ibara, Ibara Pink Sweets, Raiden Fighters Collection (Xbox version is not arcade perfect and the JP version is not accessible to everyone), Viper Phase 1, Soukyugurentai, Zanac Neo (a very good game but the PS1 version has too much slowdown in 2P mode), Kingdom Grandprix, etc.
as someone who is around as old as the ps2, it's not exactly an accessible option for me i'd have to buy a ps2 (either with modchip or a power supply adapter) in the first place, on top of the game being expensive then i'd have to find a monitor to plug it into, cause the only things with analog inputs i have are massive tvs and after all that i'd have a console i probably will only ever use for like 3 games, a lot more stuff to organize and several hundred spent not exactly accessible if you ask me
I talk about it in the vid but the PS2 port is massively incomplete, there is no black label. The main version of the game is black label, and the 360 port is crappy. So this port is absolutely needed.
Super exciting news indeed! On another note, hearing you talk about m2 ports here made me think about something, would you be willing to do a video with a top 10 or something best shmups ports on modern plataforms? Between Ps4/Ps5, Xone/Series and Switch (if any)? So someone like me that loves shmups but been out of the loop can have a quick guide of what ports to seek for my current consoles!

I don't think we're going to get it anytime soon though, because they still have to finish up the Ray-Z collection and the total time between that and the Same! collection was like half a year. It figures that the wait for DOJ will probably be until near the end of the year. But for all the care they put into their ports, it should end up worth it.

All the cave shot triggers ports so far were given some sorta subtitle named after the new arrange mode (Ketsui Deathtiny, ESPrade Psi) so it's safe to assume the full name, additional modes, arranges and etc will all be revealed some point next year

First, merrx xmas! But you almost got me angry there, Mark. No body gives a shit about super easy mode? Oh, come on man. Not everybody is that good at shmups. I could only play Ketsui and Garegga thanks to this mode. Without this mode, bullet hell shmups would be even more niche then they already are.
Merry Xmas! What I meant about super easy (and I think I clarified what it meant) is that super easy mode is actually too easy and even new players don't like it. There are much better versions of novice modes (like in crimzon clover and gunvein) that are more compelling. I think the super easy modes are the weakest aspects of their releases. Honestly changing settings in custom mode is a better easy mode

Amazing. I will be pre-ordering as well. I have this on PS2 and 360 but I've never played 360 since it's region locked. I'm a huge shmup fan but newer to the genre. I'm really not all that good and I like their super easy modes! I always start with them and can usually get a no death clear using auto bomb, then I move up from there. Or with the Toaplan games I usually just stick with super easy since the auto bomb pretty much negates the check point system. Super easy opens the games up to a much larger audience.

Man I was looking up if there was any way of getting "Magical Drop" games on PC and found "G-MODEアーカイブス19 マジカルドロップDX", I checked it on Steam and apparently there is a DoDonPachi DaiOuJou "G-MODE" version, and "G-MODE Archives is a reissue project that faithfully recreates old feature phone games as they were back then." lol

New fan of your channel here. I'm contemplating taking on DOJ as my next project in terms of modding in some fanmade achievements and leaderboards.
Arcade shmups are probably the most neglected genre in the retro achievement hunting/modding community, and I'm doing what little I can to help turn that tide.
By the way, would you be interested in giving feedback/suggestions on my design before anything goes live? It's to help make sure I do this masterpiece justice.

This and Espaluda's perfect arcade ports already exist on PS2. These excellent 1:1 arcade ports even support 240p and TATE modes. Why do we need multiple perfect arcade ports? They already exist and easily accessible. They should do other shooters that until now do not have decent ports.
Some worthy titles would be Ibara, Ibara Pink Sweets, Raiden Fighters Collection (Xbox version is not arcade perfect and the JP version is not accessible to everyone), Viper Phase 1, Soukyugurentai, Zanac Neo (a very good game but the PS1 version has too much slowdown in 2P mode), Kingdom Grandprix, etc.
as someone who is around as old as the ps2, it's not exactly an accessible option for me
i'd have to buy a ps2 (either with modchip or a power supply adapter) in the first place, on top of the game being expensive
then i'd have to find a monitor to plug it into, cause the only things with analog inputs i have are massive tvs
and after all that i'd have a console i probably will only ever use for like 3 games, a lot more stuff to organize and several hundred spent

I talk about it in the vid but the PS2 port is massively incomplete, there is no black label. The main version of the game is black label, and the 360 port is crappy. So this port is absolutely needed.

On another note, hearing you talk about m2 ports here made me think about something, would you be willing to do a video with a top 10 or something best shmups ports on modern plataforms? Between Ps4/Ps5, Xone/Series and Switch (if any)? So someone like me that loves shmups but been out of the loop can have a quick guide of what ports to seek for my current consoles!
10:39 Well, turns out that is is December 2023, but I'm glad it's coming. Pre-ordered the Switch Limited Edition since I don't have a region-free PS4, I hope the port gets a digital release on NA PS4 like Ketsui did.

@@TheElectricUnderground My reasons are personal. Because Aleste Branch is bringing us back Ellinor Waizen, along with two newcomers, and I believe Ubusuna is the successor to both Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga.

Yes most likely PS4 only and absolutely get yourself a base PS4. PC does not have the shottrigger ports and they are all fantastic.

No, sadly the Japanese copies of the M2 Shot Trigger games do not have an English text option
Sort of, so most of the menus are in English so they are easy to play. However, custom mode menus are not, which can be a pain
DOJ was my favorite shmup for a long time until DFK took it's place, I'm glad to see DOJ is geting all the love it deserves.
