Tbh this is the most inaccurate portrayal of a character I have ever seen. The original Willi Harold lost his unit on the march and therefore became a deserter unwillingly, when he found the uniform he didn’t just run around aimlessly killing civilians and POWs, but actually led a unit against American troops, later being stationed at the camp. Not only that, the guy was well decorated for an enlisted soldier, earning a close combat clasp, which the most prestigious badge, that could be awarded.
what a legend, its a shame they have to portray him so inaccurately. the Wikipedia page on him is terribly set up to make him look bad. and the movie director was a black man from JewYork, they were simply told to portray him this way by whoever's paying for the movie to be made. most world war 2 fims are made by jewish directors/writers anyway.
Herold was not evil nor was he a good one. He was scared. And after he got that uniform, he lost himself. He didn't know who he was anymore. For him it was just something.
@@mrhm1488It’s basically like that in every historical film that was filmed post-war. Valkyrie is also a good example, Major Remer a die hard nazi that was personally loyal to Yorker was portrayed as a regular apolitical German officer that was just following orders to fit the narrative, there are tons of examples.

It's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, by the way, the editing was really great, but it's a shame that it's been watched so little. 🥲
