In this clip, Stephanie Mills talks about the fact that she's won every single major music award, before expressing the love that she still has for singing on a daily basis. Then, Stephanie reflects back on the success of her hit single from 1980, "Never Knew Love Like This Before." She explains that she did not know the song was going to become the phenomenon it became when she made it.
Moving along, Stephanie Mills talks about working with the late Teddy Pendergrass on their collaborative effort called "Feel the Fire." She explains that Pendergrass was like a big brother to her. Moving along, Stephanie talks about working with legendary record producer Teddy Riley on song like "Real Love" and "Fast Talk." From there, she also shares that the great Angela Winbush penned a few tracks for her such as "Power of Love" and "So Good, So Right."

While in High School, I saw her in concert. It was a great show. I saved my pennies and walked 3 miles home in the dark after midnight to see her. This was over 40 years ago. What a memory

Shoutout to the late great James Mtume who helped co write Never knew love like this before. He was 19 years old playing with the definitive artist of the 20th century, Miles Davis. He also helped write The closer I get to you Roberta Flack and my St. Louis Homeboy Donnie Hathaway. Also his much sampled RnB classic from 1983 Juicy Fruit from his group Mtume. The talent of this era is unparalleled!!!!

I love the song "Never Knew Love Like This Before". The song came out in 1980 when I was 9. I still love that song 43 years later.

Crazy thing is, the songs she wrote for Stephanie Mills.. would've sounded good if she sung them herself.. But either way Ms. Mills did a excellent job singing them! 💯❤️

Stephanie Mills was always a mixed bag far as her art goes like as black people we didnt really need our own Wizard Of Oz but something more original 😅 And the reason her music never really blew up is because she was no Prince, MJ or Whitney. Like it's really not that hard to figure out. Sometimes the truth hurts when it comes to our own path or trajectory in life but truth is truth. Mills was just always kinda there but it doesnt mean she didnt impact anyone else. And frankly I think Michael didnt care for her attitude because when you look at most of her responses in this interview, she's either clueless about some stuff or taking up for the wrong people like Harvey Weinstein. Like this lady is just all over the place and doesn't make sense most of the time.
And so sad that Teddy Pendergrass never won a Grammy. That is a musical tragedy. But I saw Teddy and Stephanie in concert in Columbia South Carolina back in 1980 or 1981. Oh my God. When the musical prelude came on with Feel the Fire and Stephanie reappeared, I thought my time had come. Amazing. Love her. Continue your rest Teddy.
