I do like the Spanish train network and especially you have all these new high-speed trains going from Malaga now. I know what you mean about UK train prices, Linda. I think an off-peak return between London and Manchester costs about 10 grand right now. Hahaha. Thanks for watching.
It was a really helpful video, thank you. I just realized the San Roque La LInea station is not close to the border with Gibraltar. I am planing my journey from Seville to Gibraltar. It seems a bit complicated to travel between two places, as there is no direct train and time-consuming coach ride. Maybe it is better to start my journey from Malaga or Algeciras first.
Hey. Thanks for watching and commenting. You have asked some very good questions. San Roque La Linea station is very far from the border. If you wanted to arrive here. You can take a taxi for 25€ although thats the expensive option. You can travel with Monsbus from Seville to Algeciras or Comes bus although Comes takes 4 hours. You could also take the bus from Malaga to Gibraltar. It only takes 1hr 55mins then. I hope this helps.
@@theofficalGibTV Yeah, I see… It seems my best option so far is to take Comes coach directly from Seville to La Linea, although it takes more than 4 hours. Or maybe I can choose to carpooling by using blablacar service, but the route and time are not always perfectly matched... Anyway, thanks for your info. There was very limited guide about this on the Internet.
Hi. Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, there is no train line between Marbella and Gibraltar. San Roque La Linea is the closest train station, and the line heads inland towards Madrid. I hope this helps.
whilst slightly closer geographically, I do not see why you would expect Estación de San Roque to be the station for Gibraltar... it's not like it's actually anywhere near it! I mean, just looking at the map, you have to pass quite a few smallish towns before you reach the border.... I am sort of surprised there is no branch line to the Rock of Gibraltar itself, would have thought Lidia and Gibraltar as a Major port would have deserved their own (if only non-High-Speed) railway... thought the video would be about how much of a hassle crossing this border on a train is, and how bad/underfunded the international service is.
Hi Stan... thanks for the comment. San Roque is marketed as "San Roque - La Linea" train station. As you can see from the video, that's the name of the station and I'm just highlighting that it's no where near La Linea and people associate La Linea with Gibraltar so they make the common mistake of getting off the train here. There is a rail track that was built in the 50's that goes all the way to La Linea but it has never been used and the rail link was never opened. Gibraltar is only accessible by the Land border, the airport and through the port.
@@theofficalGibTV Way back in 1999 I did a road trip from Torremolinos to Gibraltar. You had to follow signs for Cadiz and then for La Linea. No mention of Gibraltar on any road signage in Spain. Eventually drove south through La Linea, very quiet and dead, until we crossed the border into Gibraltar. Back then the road crossed the main runway for Gibraltar airport. Gibraltar is good for at least a day outing and is strange to see a little bit of Britain in Southern Spain. The people had a plebicite overwhelmingly in favour of retaining their independence from Spain so their situation is in no way like Northern Irelands relationship with the UK. The border crossing with the sudden appearance of UK style signage and road markings reminded me of crossing the border from Ireland into Northern Ireland. Unlike the UK Gibraltar drives on the right. The downside from the Spanish point of view is the existence of duty free sales in Gibraltar which makes the surrounding settlements in Spain very depressed and doing no trade. This contrasts starkly with the Costa del Sol which has a booming tourist trade in general. The video mentions Algeciras which is a big base for the Spanish Navy on the opposite side of Gibraltar.
@jgdooley2003 Thanks for the comment. I really enjoyed reading it and reading about your journey in 1999. The signs for Gibraltar are still not displayed outside of La Linea. The road over the airport has closed for cars now, and you have to go through the newly built tunnel. Its a funny place to live in!
You made the journey longer....go into San Roque and there are buses every 20 minutes to la linea...why go to Algeciras...the journey will be longer....
Exactly why I did the video, Simon. San Roque station is actually very far away from where the La Linea - San Roque bus departs/arrives. The station is in a town called Taraguilla. This only has a connection to La Linea by bus 3 times a day. If time is an issue, my top advice is to pay for a taxi. Thanks for the comment.
@@theofficalGibTV I live here....I sort of agree.... it's only down the hill....I wouldn't recommend doing to Algeciras on the train and then bus to La linea....if your in san Roche.... taxi down the hill into La linea.... saving 2 hours grief.... 5 euros in the taxi..I'm not having a go.... just saying what I would do....I catch the algceras to la linea regularly for work in Gibraltar.... I've been stuck in San Roche..... trust me.... taxi down the hill....no more than 6 euros.... otherwise you are going backwards to go forward.... nice video though 💘
Fantastic train service in Spain, we use them a lot when we are on the Costa Del Sol, so cheap compared to prices in the UK, thanks for the video xx

Algeciras
Absolutely Preetha, Algeciras train station.
