19 YEAR OLD DIEGO MARADONA - UNBELIEVABLE PERFORMANCE VS ENGLAND !!!

- 19 YEAR OLD DIEGO MARADONA - UNBELIEVABLE PERFORMANCE VS ENGLAND is a highlights compilation of Maradona's every touch, skills, and tricks against England played in 1980 at Wembley. Having just won the 1979 World Youth Championships in Tokyo, Maradona arrived in England as the "South American Player of the Year", and facing off against Ballon d' Or winner Kevin Keegan, Maradona put on the kind of stunning performance that not only enthralled the Wembley crowd, but featured a tantalizing preview of the "Goal of the Century" that he would famously score six years later in Mexico against the English.
In this digital age where the achievements of yesterday's football greats are far too often easily forgotten, or worse dismissed as being somewhat inferior to those of today's so-called "megastars" and "G.O.A.Ts.", this footage is a timely reminder that Maradona's God given talent with the ball remains unsurpassed. At nineteen, this teenage prodigy was already orchestrating and dictating matches beyond the capabilities of his World Cup winning comrades, and those of the opposing seasoned international English players. So just enjoy the show. - Спорт
Maradona had unbelievable ability. Nothing I have seen so far can be compared to him. He was out of this world
Mágico González
Maradona told a story that after he missed the goal in the pile up shown at 3:20, his brother told him that he should have dribbled the goalie. Years later he remembered it and in fact dribbled the goalie when he scored against England in Mexico.
The real GOAT. No hyper social media influence inflating his abilities. Just pure magic.
I vividly remember watching this with my Dad as a football mad 13 yr old. All these English defenders were my heroes and he completely shocked with his touch and twice ripping them apart with stunning speed and control. For some reason they left out of these highlights of how he won a penalty by dribbling past 3 of them in the second half or was that another game from earlier? Anyway his touch is the greatest ever, his affinity with the ball and for anyone here saying he kept losing the ball I’d say the defenders in those days were violent in their tackling.. this is Wembley, he was trying things. He’s still streets ahead in every respect and most of contributions are exceptional. I’ve watched Pele, Best and all the rest and they all lost the ball plenty. All I can say is for the time Maradona made our jaws drop as we’d never seen anything like it before. That run in the first half where he shaved the post was literally a total lightning bolt from out of this world. I still remember the feeling of seeing this all these years later and started to think I’d dreamed it… thanks so much for posting
pele 1964 for me against england
Me too , I remember watching this as a boy and had the same feeling
Me, my brother (rip) and a mate decided to go to this match on the off chance, (you could go to Wembley on the day and buy a ticket in those days) when Maradona made that run ending with the little clip that just shaved the post we all looked at each other and knew we had just seen something very very special, he was like a stick of dynamite popping up all over the park, wonderful footballer, like Pele, so beautiful it just made you smile.
Only real football fans don't know of frontiers, skin color or patriotic bullshit things. The greatest ever touch the football field to enrich and make people fall in love with some magic. I have watch Diego live when he was 16 yo back in my country. I was mesmerized by his football
I was at this match and the buzz whenever Maradona was on the ball was electric. Everyone attending knew that we were seeing something monumental. He was the greatest player to ever kick a football.
I was blessed enough to go to this match. The crowd buzz every time Maradona touched the ball was unbelievable. He was the greatest footballer to ever walk onto a pitch.
I totally agree.

@@Ogma3bandcamp even Messi will tell you that he can't compare to Maradona
@@Ogma3bandcamp messi is a pile of mess!!
P. Maradona,was19 here….he well deserved that goal that went out the post
When you look at some of those assaults on Maradona by the England players - how many would have been reds today? - you get a glimpse of how dangerous the game was for skillful dangermen at that time. They didn´t have the protection the likes of Messi and Modric enjoy today; brutal tackles were allowed. And the best players got injured, a lot. That was the environment in which Maradona played almost his whole career. Mostly in the country that considered defensive football an art form. And still at only 19, he is already mesmerising. Dynamic. Like a coiled spring. Floating over the turf, while others flounder. At one with the ball. Gliding past desperate defenders, at speed, with the ball seemingly glued to his magical left foot. Just poetry in motion.
🙏 So beautifully written. Thank you.
Football was absolutely brutal back then.
Great writing
Maradonkey had the hand of the devil….
Maradona was a genius and very courageous
Diego Armando Maradona......quite simply the best I have ever seen in my lifetime!!! What a player! What a Character! What personality! For me the best ever! Messi is a fantastic footballer in this current game but Maradona was the GODFATHER!!!
LOL
That's true
maradona was better than messi. he was better than pele, no one will ever match the talents of maradona.
Watched all the greats, but there were things that Diego Maradona did with the ball that have been unmatched to this day. An absolute genius.
Absolute cheat.
@@Ogma3bandcamp In one match yes, didn’t need to do it , they’ve had won anyway.
Mágico González
He's the best player I have ever seen. He was far ahead of his time.
Agreed 100%
yeah, he is more naturally talented than Pele and Messi. He was better than them in the big games.
Only if Maradona was able to keep his focus at the right place and had longevity, then he would have been the GOAT.
Pele and Messi have longevity and consistency, which strengthens their position in the GOAT debate.
Maradona lacked these two things due to his off field issues.
@@hsafootballworld1321 More naturally talented than Pelé. Where? Nobody loves Maradona more than me. But Pelé less talented than Maradona is absurd. Please check Pelé's highlights before saying something like that. Being second to Pelé is no disrespect to anybody. PEACE!
@@VelhaGuardaTricolor I also regard Pele as the most complete player of all time since he had no weakness. But remember Pele was very professional and really looked after himself like Messi/CR7. While Maradona did not look after himself in the same way . Sometimes he would not train for days and train the day before the game.
Besides that Maradona performed in tougher circumstances, like he never played in an extremely strong team like Pele did for Brazil and Messi did with Barcelona.
I personally feel Maradona would have achieved more than Pele and Messi if he used his time wisely after he became a sensation in Napoli.
But it's Maradona's own fault that he did not use the time wisely and he has only himself to blame.
As things stands now, and if we take into consideration everything: achievements, completeness, natural talent and longevity. Then Pele would win the debate. Messi at number 2 and Maradona at 3.
But i personally feel Maradona was blessed with more talent than Messi/Pele along with his ability to step up under pressure-
@@hsafootballworld1321 Before we continue this very nice debate. I would like to remind us, we are splitting hairs when we talk Pelé and Maradona.
Both geniuses in their own way.
Both gods of the sport we love.
I don't take into account who won the most. Because we are talking team sport.
But I strongly disagree when you suggest Pelé looked after himself unlike Maradona, bc Pelé won the World Cup age 17.
Also when you talk about performing under pressure, I don't see how Pelé can not be regarded as the most clutch player ever, maybe tied with other greats, but if winning the World Cup age 17 isn't dealing well with pressure, I don't know what is.
Messi choked a lot for Argentina and Maradona lost a World Cup Final.
So.... I don't see them being better under-pressure at all. Unless I am forgetting something.
Pelé played in an ERA where bellow the NECK everything was SHIN. He had a stronger body than the other two but that is just about it.
The best ever in my view as an England fan.
Kicked out of the 82 world cup with the fouls.
But Mexico 86 he was a genius.
This video proves it.
Agreed. As an English man I'm supposed to hate him but I don't. I feel privileged to have been alive during the time of Maradona. The best I've seen. His autographed picture sits proudly on my wall alongside Geoff Hursts
He could even score with his hands - what a player.
Granted. I hate what he did that time. But I blame the officials. If Lineker had punched one in we would be saying it was the refs fault for not spotting it so alls good. Cheating is part of the game unfortunately. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don't. Nowadays it would have been disallowed due to var.
@@karlmaddox1209 Good point but VAR would also have disallowed the second goal for the foul on Hoddle in the run up, he was completely wiped out!
@@matthewbell1968 agreed. I was just responding to the previous hands comment. Football was a vastly different game back then regarding fouls and physical contact. The Schumacher challenge on Batiston in 82 springs to mind. He didn't even get booked for that. Ffs it wasn't even given as a foul. He nearly killed him.
Way ahead of his time. Even at 19 in 78 he matches anybody for technical skill in todays game and his technique is still unmatched. The most unique, gifted player I've ever seen. Pure natural.

Pele didn't win three himself though he was injured in 1962.
Not needed in 1970 and Garrinha was the best player for Brazil in 1958.
Pele was a money making machine for Santos and FIFA.
Go on tour and play exhibition games every two days for two weeks.
Pele isn't even his real name
The greatest player to ever play the game hands down. Simply the best
I grew up in this time and apparently forgot how physical games were. Maradona did not complain or act as the Neymars of this world. Unique player!
Simply another reason that many continue to consider Diego the greatest of all time. 😉☺️
Neymar has the skill of a Maradona, Portuguese Ronaldo, Messi, and Zidane.
Unfortunately his mind set, mentality, character, outlook have prevented him reaching the standards of the aforementioned examples of great players.
And international matches, particularly friendlies, were usually very tame compared to competitive club football matches. Maradona took an absolute brutal battering his whole career. Protected in today’s football it would be even more obvious he’s the greatest player in history.

Had the privilege to be at this game and see England beat the current world champions but my memory of the game will be seeing the greatest player ever at 19 with no outside influences absolutely terrorise a very experienced team. Over the years when i have told people that i saw Maradona back in 1979 i always quote the same thing " He was the most frightening thing i've ever seen on a football pitch and the famous World cup goal he scored could easily have been done at least 3 times in this match" .
People who say Ronaldo is better never saw him play
I was at this game with my dad. We had not really heard of the GOAT, but we were sat next to a couple of Argentinians. When ever he got the ball they went nuts shouting his name. Some player and the best I have ever seen.
Amazing .. i wish i was there
Diego Armando Maradona was on another plane altogether and from another galaxy. His skills had a fluidity that was magical, other-worldly. His charisma and command of the entire field of play were unmatched. His fighting spirit was not to be toyed with-Diego feared no one. Jorge Valdano called him a “Napoleonic” presence and I think that says it very well. All praise to Lionel Messi, who has justly scaled the heights of the sport, and whose career achievements (I have to recognize) have surpassed Diego’s. I admire Messi and have grown to love him as a player, a leader, and a person. But Diego remains, to my mind and in my heart, quite simply and beyond any serious debate, The Greatest.

Two comments I have to make:
1) maradona was an amazing player and without a doubt the best ever. His skill and control were unmatched even by today’s standards
2) I am actually surprised at the fast pace of this match. Considering it is was sometimes in the late 70s it is incredibly fast.
Imho the speed of the video is 1.25.
The time he was allowed on the ball was mental.
But when he had ball, drew 3 players in sometimes which opened up space which he would then poke ball to a team mate. Unbelievable player simple best that ever graced the game. Had Velcro in his boots.
I remember watching highlights of this game on tv…absolutely amazing Maradona…have been a fan ever since GOAT
I saw this at the time at that moment at 3.30 still sends shivers down my spine At the time it seemed physically impossible to do that, a trick of the light or some alchemical wizardry, a crack in the Laws of Time, he seems to be a whole second ahead of the reality around him. He truly was the most exceptional player, and of course everyone was trying to break his legs all the time.
Imagine him on today's perfect football pitches
I imagine Pele, Best, Greaves Charlton, Cruyff, Maradonna, Beckenbauer, Moore on todays pitches too. Can you imagine all in the same team with Ronaldinho zidane, Baresi and Banks.
Imagine Watson lasting two minutes before he was sent off
I didn't get a chance to watch Maradona live, but my dad did. He said imagine a player who had the grace and ability to control the midfield like Zidane. Add to him the dribbling, speed and finishing of Messi, plus the wizardry and skills of Ronaldinho. Then top it off with the passion and leadership of a Roy Keane. That was D10S.
You left something out: The ability to orchestrate a match like Platini.
Diego was football and football was Diego!
Anybody who ever doubs that Maradona wasn't the best ever..
All you need to do is watch this video and there is no argument ..

Messi has NADA on this man...the levels of physicality he had to withstand and STILL managed to be that great, is the reason why Lionel can't mess with him...Messi takes the path of least resistance
Bullshit. Messi gets kicked a lot too and
Still manages to stand and run forward.
Messi is spectacular but cannot do anything that maradona can do with the ball. Not in a trillion years.Messi more consistant and thats it.Comparing maradonas technique to anyone else is pure stupidity
@@mrporsche4236 messi is not even 1% of MARADONA.
Pure talent, elegance and courage.
I remember that game. There is a story of The goal that DM failed in this game. His brother, once he returned to Argentina told him that he made a mistake while choosing the second "palo" (the literaly traduction is goal stick, but I think it is not). That he should elude the GK and finish the goal in the first one. 6 years later in Mexico DM recognized that he rememberd his brother´s words at the finish of his famous goal, and instead of crossing the ball, he decided to elude the GK.
He was already a legend at 19
12 minutes of great highlights apart from excluding 4 goals 😂
PRESENCIA, CARISMA ...sin igual.
Coming from Hamburg and used to love Kevin Keegan in the 80ies. But Maradona was incredible!!!
Ooo Maradona.... Our hero... Because of him we are Fan of argentina....
What a player… truly a unique talent
Most underrated players of all times is also the best player of all time!! Just imagine how good he was !!!
I take it you are referring to Phil Thompson?😂
Diego Maradona we owe you eternal love
Maradona The Best 👍🇦🇷🇮🇹
The King of Kings.
Maradona is the best for all Time, god of football ❤
19yrs old,,,was in great shape physically. Perfect weight!! Was maybe in the best shape of his career..! RIP Diego
How the f did Watson stay on the pitch?
homer referee
🤷♂️?????
🤦♂️💁🏼♂️🤷🏻♂️
They were normal fouls back then and you almost had to break a leg to get sent off. Watson took no prisoners!
His time football was brutal and even more when Pele played
Got butchered every week, players today are much better protected (rightly so). Saw him once in Berlin, standing ovations for some tricks during half-time. The Best ever.
Just a kid at 19 in this clip. He was an exceptional player. What a performance from one so young. This was the start of something special.
Muchas gracias por el video del partido !
You are welcome
any modern player would not last 15 minutes without injuri in this game..to score a goal here is wonder
The best by far until this moment.
He is my era so i am biased, i admit that but i still think he is the greatest player to ever live. What he did on terrible pitches with ferocious tackling being allowed is beyond anything I have seen other great players like messi, neymar etc do. There is a magic about Diego that is hard to describe. And he was a peoples champion, he loved the people, he cared about them, he was connected. There are many reasons but for me, he stands alone at the top.
Well said
In my life time I haven't seen any body like maradona. I am 55.
Not an 'unbelievable' performance by any description but you could tell he was next level ability...!
BRO 1. MARADONA 2.MESSI 3. PELE 4.CRYUFF 5.DISTEFANO.
I saw this as a boy in the BBC highlights programme that night with my Dad and I can tell you honestly it was unbelievable. We had literally never seen anyone close to this and he made everyone’s jaw hit the floor. Remember these defenders were the best in the world at the time and he sliced through them a few times with such speed and control people thought he came from another realm… the future. They don’t show how he won a penalty in the second half by going past 3 of the best defenders in the worlds best league as if they didn’t exist. Nobody had EVER seen Phil Thompson or kenny Samson look like heavy legged old men before never mind both of them with one move! Everything has context. This was unbelievable and left an impression on me that I still remember and I still talk about. Maradona in Wembley aged 19
@@kingboruto6973 Where is Maradona's UCL trophy??
@@amooolusina6978 FIRST HE PLAYED FOR NAPOLI AT THAT TIME SAME AS PLAYING FOR VILLAREAL IN LA LIGA .SECONDLY ASK MESSI UNLIKE FANS OF 2010 .MESSI HIMSELF ACKNOWLEDGES AD EVEN EVERY GREAT FOOTBALLERS DIEGO WAS MAGIC.BTW ANOTHER MISTAKE THESE MODEL GUYS LIKE YOU MAKE IS BRING IN CR7 WHO IS GREAT BUT ONLY SECOND BEST PORTUGESE CUZ FIRST NE IS EUSEBIO.WHO TOOK WEAKEST PORTUGESE SQUAD TO 3RD PLACE IN WC HISTORY.CR7 IS NOT IN TOP 10.MESSI EVEN IF HE WON 3 WC WILL NOT BE ABOVE DIEGO THE PLAYER BECAUSE OF EMOTION HE LEFT ROMANTICISM FOR FOOTBALL IN ARGENTINA. FROM MESSI AND ALBICELESTE FAN "MESSI IS EQUAL TO MARADONA NOT ABOVE HIM NOT BELOW HIM " TO DO THAT IN A COUNTRY WHERE YOUR IDOL IS CONSIDERED GOD IS GOAT LEVEL STUFF.SORRY FOR CAPS.
@@kingboruto6973 ... remember, Pele played, scored in, and won the WC at 17yo. ya may choose to ignore, but facts are facts, he is above Diego, who I have huge respect for after he demolished the english in '86. then a HUGE gap ... before we come to skills of the current players.
Can't believe it's 40years ago time flies
Grew up idolising Maradona. Such a genius. Never thought I would see someone better. And then Messi came along. The argument was always only Messi vs Maradona, and while Messi takes it, watching Maradona is a still a joy.
He is already no 10 at 19..wow
