- Here at BeatGrade we decided to do our own Top Ten series of great producers. This feature is 9th Wonder. He has produced some of the Best beats of all time.
This selection of beats we chose are not only some of our favorites, but the most influential beats we feel 9th Wonder has produced. The list was hard to choose, but here's our Top 10 Beats from 9th Wonder.
***If there's a producer who's beats you feel we should list, please say their names in the comments below!
9th Wonder's first significant career breakthrough came in 2003 when, as an up-and-coming producer, he released an unofficial remix album of Nas' 2002 album God's Son entitled God's Stepson. Released through internet outlets, the album garnered significant attention and acclaim. The producer has said that he was not thinking in terms of using it to generate a buzz or promote his skills at that point: "I never thought any of this of me as a producer was going to happen." The album has since been credited as starting the now regular trend for unofficial 'home-made' remixes of whole albums.
9th Wonder began his career as the main producer for the group Little Brother. As part of Little Brother he gained recognition and critical acclaim for his production on their debut 2003 release, The Listening. Jay-Z's studio engineer Young Guru was impressed with his work, and contacted 9th Wonder, which led to 9th Wonder producing "Threat" for Jay-Z's 2003 The Black Album. The cut proved to be a mainstream breakthrough for 9th Wonder, most immediately in the major production role he secured on Destiny's Child's 2004 Destiny Fulfilled album that Jay-Z was instrumental in helping bring about. On the album, 9th Wonder produced the tracks "Girl" and "Is She the Reason," plus the bonus track "Game Over".
9th Wonder left Little Brother in 2007.
On October 29, 2007, 9th Wonder made a rare public appearance on BET's Rap City, alongside collaborator Talib Kweli. Madlib, Jean Grae and Erykah Badu appeared as well. In 2010, he appeared on BET's 106 & Park countdown with David Banner.
9th Wonder, E. Jones, and rapper J. Cole served as the lead producers of the soundtrack to the EA Sports video game NBA Elite 11. 9th Wonder and J. Cole also appear as "secret characters" in NBA Jam with a team name of Cole & Wonder.
9th Wonder debuted his rapping alter-ego 9thmatic in late 2009. 9thmatic appeared on songs with Khrysis and Sean Boog, Big Remo, Murs and Thee Tom Hardy.
9th Wonder worked with Mississippi rapper David Banner on a collaborative album entitled Death of a Pop Star which was released on December 21, 2010. After forming Jamla Records in 2010, he then went on produce for Jill Scott, Dilated Peoples, Big Boi of Outkast, and Anderson .Paak.

9th has kicks and snares that snapped like Dr. Dre's except with a east coast swag and a slight southern bounce. So dope.
Yeah. But 9th is a better than Dre.
@@jblack5323 lmao 🤡 dre is the 🐐 his beats transcend time. Most 9th wonder & Pete rock beats are stuck in a certain era. Dre, Neptunes, Scott storch, Kanye West are some producers that transcend time
@@johnsmith-zh1iv name a contemporary Dre beat…..
@@johnsmith-zh1iv and all these dudes had people around them. If you don’t know why I mean by that then there is no helping you.
@@jblack5323 go ahead like your pumas over jordans but in the end jordans going down as the better shoe. If you don't know what I mean by that then there is no helping you
Discovered 9th wonder freshman year of college 2009. Hearing these again triggers memories from those times. Great to hear these again
Freshman year of highschool for me also 2009. Time flies
I wish he and the rest of LB could just figure this stuff out and get back together. At least one more LP.
I TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY........CONCUR!!!!
Agreed
Nah, it's cool. Waiting on the MTLW documentary.
Duckworth will always be his best imo. So creative n how smooth his put 3 samples in 1 song. K dot killed it too
He didn’t do that. The engineer put the songs together at Kendrick’s request. It was three separate beats.
@@jjbing3 never knew that, I thought he put together 3 samples Too
@@Peytonwatson14 nah. He sent Kendrick a bunch of beats and the engineer put them together.
@@jjbing3 very creative Of Kendrick
Lol you must have never heard his beats with little brother. You a clown.
9th wonder is that guy 🔥🏆😎
Top Ten - 1. Lovin' It - 2. Shorty on the Lookout - 3. 9th's Jazz - 4. Comfortable - 5. Sun in the Sky - 6. Melodrama - 7. IamBeastSoul - 8. ClearlysInside 9. Walk Like A Man - 10. Up and Down
Number 1 your wrong bro I think
@@ricardoheckstall9233 he is wrong
Yo, Listen to Maglite by Median. That heat is fire
Median "So Comfortable" was a BRUTAL OMISSION 😩
All he did was sample and entire 30 to 50 seconds of a record AMF threw drums and a compressed bassline on it lol
@@PSICK1234ikillallracistrolls The end result is what mattered. Music is about "feeling" but here comes a "thinker" to downplay an absolute masterpiece
@@PSICK1234ikillallracistrolls and it was AMAZING 😊😊😊

Not Enough is my favorite joint. one of the dopest songs ever
🎶Seems like whatever I do
Its not enough for you
I paid the cost and gave you my all
But you still want more
I'm still standing right here
But it seems so unfair
That I sacrifice and give you my life
But you still want more🎶
@@TenthLetterWhoBetter this hip hop ain't that hard. Dope beats dope rhymes what more do Y'all want
Even though that’s actually Khrysis on the boards with the heat…
@@DSH7322 khrysis did Not Enough?! Wow.
Lovin it “ should’ve been number 1 like it is
I found about 9th by my cousin jamming Lil Brother like it was going out of style, fell love with the skill of his art: from the beautiful flowing sounds, perfect sampling, and mixing of his loops/ production is crazy, and better yet, its mind blowing knowing he makes his beats off Fruiti Loops (FL Studio). As an used wannabe beat maker, myself who used the same program back in the day, his instrumentals were a level to aspire to ascend to reach. I never did, but dude always has been and is still a legend to me. I dont know if he's still doing it, but the game can use his gift right now.
Solid! 2 of my a favorite 9th Wonder beats are "The Righteous Way To Go" and "Sincerely Yours"
This needed the December 4th remix
‘Lovin’ It’ is fire. Deserves the number 1 spot imo. 🔥🔥🔥
I hope you have a part 2, 3, 4 because you left out a lot of great instrumentals from 9th wonder homie
Little Brother did that Lovin' it beat justice
Jay-Z : Threat. That beat is ridiculous
I'm a southerner and I fell in love with 9th Wonder's beats and production....
my favorite beat by 9th Wonder is threat
Me to bro. Threat by Jay-Z aight and he got r kelly sample on it.
@@ramdanemoctar7052 it's a dope beat, but not because 9th added fire to it. The original is already a classic and he just beefed the drums.
9th wonder has been a true master at his craft for well over 2 decades his earlier tracks sounds like their new not only that he has so many tracks and they all have his signature sound that's so custom fitted for the artist he's done projects with like Median, spectac and phone just to name a few!!
"yes 9th really does make these beats on fruity loops!" - Murs/intro
he uses Native Instruments Maschine now
"Murray's revenge" is his best beat hands down.
With "God Black" a close second.
can you do one for madlib?
"Honey"
"Tigallo For Dolo"
"Crooklyn Dodgers 3"
"Heart Burn"
"Slippin"
"How Big IS Your World"
"Every Block"
Naw, and "Tigallo For Dolo" was produced by Khrysis
Where DUCKWORTH at
"How Big Is Your World" IS the sample to me that made 9th Wonder so unique!!👊🏾💯
I'm surprised how big is your world didn't make the list
though late, i'm so glad i discovered these phenomenal producers ( 9th Wonder, Large professor & The Alchemist )
Noticed you had a Top 10 playlist for both Khrysis & 9th Wonder. Any plans on working on a Top 10 playlist for Nicolay, BlackMilk or Apollo Brown?? Big ups & props for including a Kev Brown Top 10 playlist! Kev Brown is underrated. Marco Polo, Oddisee & Ayatollah would be a great Top 10 playlist as well. Thank you for your contribution spreading Hip hop Music & consciousness on UA-cam! Mad Respect!
I wish 9th Wonder, Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh could get back together again. I love all of their albums.
Should also include what album each beat can be found on.
North Carolina Stand Up!!!
Were on the rise
Can't even pick a favorite with a top tier producer as 9th. Way way way too many gems. His catalog is serious!
Okay… “Lovin’ it” is definitely his most fire beat. But the rest is suspect. The beat he did on Rhythm Roulette crushes 80 percent of this list.
True his rhytym roulette was amazing the Best episode for me, but he made some crazy beats with little brother, The Way You do It is One of my favorite beat alltime 🔥
Threat is def top 10
