The sheer amount of people talking about how they "love" your videos Steve, yet ask questions that are (repeatedly and habitually) already answered in those same videos is incredible.
How do you all "love" his videos, yet don't seem to know (almost anything) about what he actually said in them?
Welcome to UA-cam 😂
Not everyone has started at the same time in VR world... I have Quest 2 since mid july, and trying hard to get update, but this an inmense world... Thanks Steve for your content and patience...
I no speak the good engliush
Big shout out to FS Academy for supporting the channel for such a long time now! Check out their new Commander series here: www.fsacademy.co.uk/commander
awesome video. I have been struggling with heading tracking for over a year with my hp reverb g2 and my dof reality 6 platform. The last two months have been horrendous. I just ordered the pimax crystal and the face plate. I watch one of pimax's videos and they are working on a pass through face plate which high definition cameras, this will be great to see my realsimgear instruments. Keep up the great videos. I tried the witt on my h6 but it did not help to bad it doesn't work with it.
Thanks for the vid, I have been contemplating this, I already have the base stations and sword controllers from my 8KX. Oh as far as the battery, I never have to change mine out.
Very nice video, Steve. I don't have base stations, but as I exclusively use VR in the sim I don't really care. I think the inside out tracking is rock solid as it is. Great to have you back, putting on a very nice display 🙂 I hope your holidays lived up to your expectations and more. Take care, Buddy 🔥🔥🔥
Hey buddy, yes I think for flight simulation purposes the tracking is absolutely fine. I don't have my setup in an ideal place near a plain white wall, but all I'd need is a picture frame to stop any drift. Since the tracking algorithms would focus on it. Our latest tour was fantastic thankyou. I may make a video of our adventure and throw it on the channel in due course. I have to say though, Noway has been our best one.

I just watched Mark land on the Hudson. He did GREAT !@@VRFlightSimGuy
@@poolhallsharkDidn't he just! Much better than me that's for sure 😅
How come you don't have the thing where the lateral head tracking lags? Cockpit always comes with me the first few mm. I bought lighthouse to fix it and now I have jitter. :(
I agree with you on primax Crystal
Dude! Very impressed with the depth of your videos! Question: If cost wasn't an issue - which one would you recommend? Best visuals being the only barometer.
13:47 also keeping older headset models in stock and supported as they are all different beasts and could form a great line up... Also they really need to work on their plug and play.
Thanks, Steve for yet another great update :D. It seems that Pimax folks are really trying hard to improve the Crystal and its really tempting to get one.
You've always seemed to recommend or love the Aero, do you still do so with all these new updates.. especially taking into consideration the price of the faceplate which slightly closes the gap between the Aero & Crystal. To me the main compelling factors for Crystal are the FOV & built-in Audio
Sorry for late response, I do no recommend the Aero anymore as it's being discontinued.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks Steve, I am up to date with your awesome channel and watch all your videos including the Aero news. I opted for the Quest 3 tbh as the Somnium V1 was a disappointment with the price tag for even the basic version. Loving the Quest 3 pancake lenses, higher resolution and without anydoubt, the untethred experience (a great upgrade from the index). I suppose the Q3 will do till Valve Deckard/Aero 2 become a thing :D
P.S. Also waiting for Nvidea to announce RTX 4080Ti (still using with RTX 3080 which is enough for the Q3 atm)
Thanks for another great video, but that IPD button is driving me to distraction 😂
I know what you mean, it's taken me months of re training not to press that damn thing 😅
Great video and I too don't get the hate for Pimax critique yes hate no.... Which I don't get why the RAF can't adjsust the sceme for the newer models like the Blue angels have had the same one for almost 100 years now and ever frame they put it on looks amazing.
Seeing how little there is to it I’m surprised it didn’t just come with this functionality built in and allow just an option in software
That's a very good point!
how else would they make extra $200 off you for some plastic and minimal electronics.
This is the very problem I have with it and the fact that VR reviewers are praising it as a great add-on instead of recognizing that it makes no sense for them to charge an extra $200 for it when it could have been on there from the start for that crazy price of theirs.
Thanks for your video. Does the Pimax with faceplate work fully in a dark room by itself, or do you need IR lamps for a dark room?
Got mine and I have positional jitter (head moves 1-2cm). Didn't realise lighthouse positioning would be so sensitive. I can get it ok if i put lighthouses > 2m away and look towards them, but looking to the side is still bad. Raised support ticket as everyone said lighthouse is perfect.
Awesome! Im happy to see it performs well.
And it works with multiple base stations?
I have 3.
Considering a 4th but that might be overkill.
For the tracking, can the DFR work with any game?
Thanks, Steve! This is another great possibility for the Crystal that makes it seem like the best choice. I really like mine, but I’m struggling to get it really comfortable. I can fly for hours in a G2, but with the Crystal, within an hour everything feels pretty bad and my face is covered in red lines. I’ve tried all sorts of adjustments with the straps and even the Studioform kit, but it’s still a bit awkward.
You’ve called it pretty comfortable (as have others), so I might be doing something wrong. Any tips? Maybe a video about comfort and fitting would help others, too. Thanks!
Thankyou Ben, that's a great suggestion for a future video. For me, I made sure I can get the back head strap down as far as possible, with most of the weight supported by the cushion from the front of the facial interface. This way, the headset sort of floats above my nose. I find like this, I can fly for a couple of hours with no issues or any marks on my face. I still tend to move it around from time to time though which I think is perfectly normal given how huge it is. 😅
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks! I’ll give it a try!
Regards the charging of the battery it does need USB A with approx. 7 Watt powerrating. i tried on other USB dock without success with except the 1 Pimax supplied Hub.
I have the crystal and LOVE it so considering the face plate. Im in a helicopter sim with small footprint, Q: How many base stations do you need
My Varjo Aero broke the same day my pimax crystal arrived. I did manage to get 2000 hours out of my aero. I have to be honest, I'm really missing my aero in DCS; though the Crystal looks better in the cockpit, it doesn't look as good as the aero outside the cockpit in the distance. The crystal is driving me nuts trying to set things so i don't have eye strain. I've been playing with the ipd and offset, but it just doesn't feel right, no such problems with the aero. Also the Aero with dfr is so much smoother (can't wait to get this in the crystal). As someone who has spent time with both the aero and the crystal, i can personally say the aero is the better headset for DCS (which is the only game I play in VR).
I have never owned the Aero but I'm constantly asking myself if the Crystal was the right choice for me. How does their FOV compare from your point of view?
Definitely was not asking myself "why use the lightouse faceplates". In fact the only reason I decided to buy a crystal was because they were working on these. Inside out tracking sucks. The existence of these (well at the time they were only planned) is what tipped me over to the Crystal instead of the Aero.
Do you think that Pimax will be coming out with a version of the crystal that has a wider FOV? That is what I am holding off for before taking the plunge!
Great videos as always.....thank you.🎉
Thankyou for your kind comments. There are plans for a different set of lenses with a wider FOV. I'll be testing them soon. Other than that, you might be better off waiting for the 12K QLED.
@@VRFlightSimGuy thank you sir. Appreciated.
I have no tracking issues at all in DCS….with inside out.
Hello Steve, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with our community. I recently bought the Pimax Crystal after your final review but the overall experience with my RTX 3090 isn't what I was expecting. Would you suggest buying a 4090 right now or wait until the 50 series are out? Thanks for your support. Regards!!
Yes definitely, if you can afford a 4090, it will give you a nice boost in VR with the Crystal :)
If Pimax wants to sell me a Crystal, they need to offer better options. I would consider a Crystal with the headphones, Swap in the Faceplate, and delete their hand controllers. Surely the faceplate is cheaper than including the controllers. Make the cost of this combo reasonable and I might consider this in the future.
Maybe i missed one of your videos on the pimax, i actually use the Reverb G2, is it still the WMR environnement in the Pimax or it has its own ? ? Thanks
Pimax has its own software, no need for WMR
How many Base stations do you use and what is the minimum you would recommend
Dear VR Fight Sim Guy
Luke ross VR modded games (Cyberpunk , Zero Horizon Dawn ect) is working with Pimax Crystal? Can you use open xr layer or just steam VR?
And can you play with 4090 with affordable fps?
Furthermore can you play also praydog Resident Evil VR mod and the crystal controllers are working ?
Because my G2 working very well with these modded games in open xr mode and i can achive affordable fps with my rtx 4080 and it will be very
important question because i would like to upgrade my G2 if these are workign with also Pimax Crystal.
@vrflightsim guy really late question but what are you doing for motion compensation?
Video on the channel 👍
My biggest complaint about the Reverb G2 is the finikyness of the inside-out tracking. It's largely due to the 60 Hz flicker of LED ambient lighting in my gaming space, and it diminishes the immersiveness of the Sim.
How easy is it to switch the faceplates? I am considering a crystal and would want light house tracking but I also want passthrough and the pimax doesn't have its own pass through, it has a "MR faceplate" that presumably is mutually exclusive with the lighthouse faceplate and so I'd have to keep switching between them.
Very easy :)
Just got a new Pimax Crystal. But I have a problem. I bought the sim from Microsoft and it is loaded on my PC. But I cannot figure out how to tie it's ".exe" file to the Pimax software, now called Play. I do know about the three files one has to add. But Pimax apparently no longer uses PiTool and I see no way of importing or linking the simulator software to the Pimax software. And nobody including Pimax explains that part. Everybody skips over that part and it is critical. Do the three added programs or the Pimax client register it automatically if you start it manually ? I did get Google Earth VR working out of SteamVR. So once I link the .exe file I should be good to go. How do you do that !!!
The one thing about the inside out tracking that bugs me for flight sim is that I am constantly hitting the recenter key because my head position had drifted a bit. This is particularly an issue in DCS where the HUD makes it obvious when your head position isn’t just right. Is switching to a lighthouse system a silver bullet for eliminating that drift issue? That would be the only reason to drop hundreds of $’s on a lighthouse setup for me, when I run out of other accessories to blow money on 😊
Totally with you on that. No drift issues that I've noticed
If you mount the tracking stations on the motion rig that should remove the need for motion compensation, right?
Nah, the tracking stations lose their minds if they move at all while they're running. I have seen people suggesting things like this and saying that it works but my experience with lighthouses is if they move while active, or are moved from the position they were in when you set up the room, everything stops working properly (ie a lot of drifting).
@@jimmydesouza4375 Interesting, thanks
Can you mount the basestations on the motion rig so everthing is moving in relation tje aircraft rather than the room? It annoys me that when you turn, the motion rig tilts you in the same direction, but that should only happen if you are not making a clean turn.
This movement feels correct for aircraft and compares to my real world flying (not in a Typhoon though obviously)
I had the same question, I would think you are correct and mounting the base stations on the rig should in theory be perfect motion compensation.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Ok, but I have also noted this behavior in previous videos of yours. I mean that when you do a perfect turn the force you are experiencing should be perfectly vertical with respect to the seat. And to emulate the increased g force the rig should only tilt you backwards.
@@lars4065 I'm really not best qualified to know for certain sorry Lars. All I can say is, the feelings remind me very much of real world flying experiences. But thanks for your thoughts. There are many ways you can adjust the behaviour of the platform to suit your tastes.
Thanks for the video Steve. Just got my Crystal setup last week. Are you still using DirectX11 or are you on 12 now? After the Crystal is on for awhile I start to get some faint, small light green dots in the right eye. If I power cycle the headset they go away for awhile but eventually return so I cycle it again each time. I'm wondering if maybe DirectX could be an issue.
Sounds like yet another quality control failure for Pimax.
Thankyou :) I'd personally recommend DX11, Hags on, TAA mode (might be worth checking out my latest Pimax settings video). Sorry to hear you are having issues though, it may be the headset, but try that first and let me know how you get on.
I also have the faint green dots but in the left eye and raised a ticket with Pimax, very common seemingly.
Turning the screen off and on fixes it for a while but it will return, it is to do with the local dimming and heat build up.
Pimax are looking to fix it in a firmware update I have heard.
@@Grossenbol Thanks, I'll raise a ticket with Pimax. I think it's a firmware issue too but strange it's only in one eye and doesn't affect all units.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you, Steve. I have submitted a ticket with Pimax for the issue. I am enjoying the Crystal otherwise. It's my first VR headset. I flew around Venice for the first time last night and was speechless!
I have Quest 2, I didn't know pimax cristal, and when looking for it, discovered that is a 8K version... at the same price? And review from you... 2 years ago? Could you explain the difference between cristal and 8k, please?
I have a video dedicated to comparing both headset. I'd urge you check it out 👍

You mentioned a video regarding motion compensation, is this out or coming soon?
ua-cam.com/video/ukjgLyJl_CA/v-deo.html
Thanks Steve, I was hoping you had a setup with the crystal. I have it working fine with the g2 but issues with the crystal.
I think it might by tracking issues with the crystal drifting and not keeping its startup position. Hoping lighthouse tracking will fix these issues.
The crystal put too much pressure/weight on my cro magnon forehead, couldn't use it for long periods sadly.
Sorry to hear that, maybe try a Pimax 8KX facial interface?
Hi Steve
What base stations are you using v1 or v2?
V2 I believe.
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks
Im too old for learn english.. perhaps you can learn french. We need a youtubeur like you for vr and sims.
in my opinion peoples hate on pimax is justified as sure tech is really good when it all works but it just doesn't for a lot of people its a beta product that should have been delayed but they probably did it to be the "best" for the longest possible window of time until whatever other vr headset comes from competition.
Is motion compensation working in this video? 🤷
Yes, can you not tell? I'm being thrown around all over the place but staying central in the cockpit.
Meta quest pro do not lose tracking when locking backwards
The quest pro does lose tracking when looking backwards WHILE SEATED. All inside out does, including the pro and 3. It is because the back of the seat "just appears" by the tracking camera's logic and screws everything up.
If it is something you have never experienced then you must not use your pro for seated simming.
Battery life better but I still question the design decision to not have a powered hub that provides infinite playing time. Makes no sense
Due to the XR2 chip I believe..
@@VRFlightSimGuy but I can plug a usb-c to QC3 charger on top right of headset and it plays indefinitely. But if you do that they say don’t use a hub and requires an extra cable. Again, strange design decisions
@@haackhaack4217 It is a pity, it's the thing I dislike the most
First you pay more for those cameras so it will be self tracked. But it sucks, then you can pay more to get standard VR tracked by base stations. Pimax at its finest
That makes no sense, the inside out tracking works fine, this is just an added option. It's great they have given people a choice don't you think?
I really wish you were more honest on the negatives of the hardware you review.
I'm always honest, why would you think otherwise?
@@VRFlightSimGuy Because I rarely if ever see you say anything negative about things you review, while some others do.
@@Because_Reasons If you want to see a bad review, check out my recent DPVR VR headset video, or my Vive Pro 2 review.... or my Arpara 5K headset review... OR how I complain about the glare with the Bigscreen Beyond.... Where have you been! ;)
Weird. I never lose tracking when looking behind in any headset🤔 so this upgrade would be total waste of money in an already expensive headset !!
It's due to my wall, it helps if the tracking algorithms have something to latch onto. If you have no issues, than yes, there's absolutely no point changing to this faceplate
@@VRFlightSimGuy Ok. Could be the lack of light at the wall? My rig is close to the right side of my wall with the left side open, but with a light just behind - maybe thats why i never lose tracking? No idea..lol

Another beta product with horrible quality. Look at that cheap plastic. They sell a product in beta stage and then sell you a tracking update... Don't understand the pimax approach to product development.
