- Halloween is just a few days away, and now that the new series of retcon Halloween movies has concluded, I think this is a good time to revisit the original Halloween retcon HALLOWEEN H20!

H20 and Halloween 2018 honestly had some of the best endings to the series. It just sucks that both were scrubbed away by their sequels.
I never saw the sequel to H20 tbh - didn't realize it existed. But for 2018 it was 100% a disservice and obvious cashgrab. If you had to scrub H20 from the series, then 2018 was a great capper, and they absolutely ruined it with the non-plot sequels.
Yeap - they should have ended with 2018. That movie is great and with a very good ending. The two sequels are a disgrace.

Let’s never forget LL Cool J was the real hero of this movie. A security guard, romance writer, and POV character to acknowledge how ridiculous this whole ordeal is. I love this movie. You had Laurie, her son, Michael, and Laurie beheading tf out of her brother to break the cycle of trauma she’s burdened her kid with. It did everything the new movies did, but it didn’t have art house pretense.
Only negative is that it didn’t push it further by referencing a daughter she maybe had to give away because she was an alcoholic mess.
LL Cool J was nothing more than comedic relief.
For me, Jamie Lloyd definitely exists in this timeline. I always pretend Laurie had to give her up and then started new somewhere else. (I still also pretend that Halloween 6 never happened lol this is a choose your own adventure series)

Hi Jeremy how are you doing and what part of Washington are you from and Halloween h20 is the first Halloween teen slasher horror movie I watched in the movie theaters with my mom and my sister and my brother in 1998 and I did enjoyed the whole movie

Halloween/Halloween II/Halloween H20 is definitely the way I watch the series usually. Love the ending to H20. And after I finish those three, I watch Season of the Witch cause that movie is criminally underrated and I love it.
Why not watch "Season of the Witch" before "H20", though?

I think personally that if they had the series as 1, 2, H20, and then did the "Mike tricked her to kill someone else" thing they used in Resurrection, but used that for why Laurie was so traumatized in 2018, then had that be the final showdown, that probably would have been the perfect send off to the series, IMHO.
Halloween 3 is my absolute favorite Halloween movie! It kept with John Carpenter's idea of Halloween being an anthology of movies that take place during Halloween. I wish it could have continued like that.

Yup even after watching 18. My first thought was damn, H20 was just better lol. Nothing beats Laurie screaming out for Michael to face her after 20 years of running from him. One of the best moments in the series, the best moment for Laurie in my opinion and one of the best moments ever in final girl history.

One of my fav Halloweens. Jamie Lee Curtis was badass when she’s walking through the streets screaming michaels name.
First of all, Halloween H20 was the very first horror film I saw in a theater, so it holds an insane place in my heart. The ending of H20 does feel very satisfying, apparently that ending explanation in Resurrections, was planned all along. They even filmed those flashback bits during H20s filming

“H2O had more tension than gore.” Yes, just like the original! That was the point. 1, 2, and H20 is also my preferred trilogy despite my wavering like or dislike for the other nine films.
When it comes to H2O it was one of my favorite movie memories, where my brother and I and his friend had an absolute blast in the theater. We were almost thrown out along with everybody else he made people laugh, we pissed the employees of the theater and making people laugh doing so. It would make for a great story in a book. I'll tell it one day, but damn every time I think about Halloween H2O it's one of my most Fondest Memories with my brother. Rest in peace Shaun(Lil'Bro.)
If it actually was Halloween 1, 2 and H20. That would've been an amazing trilogy. Especially for the horror franchise
Resurrection wasnt bad. I liked how they made Laurie kill the wrong guy.
That is what it is. Resurection is a what if scenario like all the other retcons
that's my Halloween Trilogy.

I will say, no one should say that Halloween ends is the worst because it’s not the worst, it’s one of them but nothing will ever beat Resurrection for being the worst one

Carpenter and Craven
H40 is still my time line. I was born in 91 and scared shitless by horror movies so I didn't see any Halloween films until about 2012. I knew Michael, who he was, and I'd tried to watch a few films but the tension of him walking down shadowed hallways with that theme song always frightened me too much. Around 2012 I finally kicked that fear and dove headlong into horror but, 2018 was the first Halloween film I saw in theaters. That, plus my love of psychological elements, skyrocketed the H40 time line to the top. I just love that they simplified Michael down to what he was in the first film. Evil. He didn't have a reason, he just was, that WAS his reason, and the H40 series put that into the spotlight. The effect that evil has, how it spreads, how it effects individuals and communities.

H20 had a solid opener with the Loomis narrative. Also appreciated the fact that Meyers seemed faster/angrier. Solid film in the franchise
My favorite sequel in the entire franchise. The fact that it almost feels like a Scream movie makes me love it even more!
Kevin Williamson polished the script, and you can definitely tell. His Scream-like dialogue is all over it, particularly with the kids.
That's the only part I disliked was the Scream vibe.

It fell into that same trope of 90's kids Dawsons Creek vibes. But, not like im complaining or anything. Lot of great stuff came out of it.

I LOVE H20. it's great. For me, it's Halloween 1, 2 and H20. And of course 3 is dope.
Better late than never 🤣. This movie still has a place in my heart even though now it makes no sense because the series got a reboot.

Doesn't matter if it got reboots. You can just see it as a trilogy 1, 2 and H20 that ended in H20. The others are just new ones, apart from this.

Been binging the Halloween movies and I just finished this one and god it was the best sequel next to Halloween 2. Absolute perfection. Jamie Lee Curtis was phenomenal and her and Michael are what made this movie the best. When they meet in that mirror that was the best scene
Interestingly, this isn't necessarily a reboot/retcon. In the original script, there was a line that indicated the other sequels happened. Laurie faked her death and changed her identity (as still happens here), abandoned her daughter, who still died in the previous films.
And while the abandonment and death of her daughter are not mentioned, there isn't actually anything in the movie (as far as I'm aware) which actively contradicts those sequels.
Correct. They even used the H6 mask in the opening of H20, when he kills the nurse.
Was just about to say this, since the movie doesn’t exactly retcon the older films and just doesn’t refer to them with the exception of Laurie’s supposed death in 4. So someone would watch 1,2,4-6 and watch this as a loose continuation or not and still enjoy them if they were on either camp.

I'm pretty sure they explicitly state that Michael hasn't been seen since the fire at the end of Halloween II, which definitely wouldn't be true if 4-6 happened. But aside from that, you're right. Though it makes Laurie a bit of a heel to know that she literally abandoned her first child.
Well Marion was established as Loomis’ nurse and caretaker in H20, yet she’s nowhere to be seen in the thorn trilogy. Not trying to ruin your comment though, these movies are what you make of them!
If you think the Halloween mentioned in Scream -> Scream 2 is in Halloween H20 is a crazy reference bonanza think about this: In Halloween (1978) Laurie says to the kids "Go to the MacKenzie 's" In Scream Casey Becker's dad says to Casey's mom "Go to the MacKenzie's" and in Halloween H20 Laurie says to his son and son's girlfriend "Drive down to the Becker's"

This was actually my first Halloween movie. Saw it maybe a year before Resurrection came out, then watched 1, 2, 4, 5 then Resurrection then 6
1 and 2, that's all you need. 2 wraps up nicely. I don't really like that Michael and Laurie are siblings. I like the idea that Michael has no other motive, makes it much creeper. Michael see Laurie leave the key on his doorstep and decided right there, "I'm coming after you." No other reason.

I really enjoyed watching this in the theater with my mom, who got me into the Halloween series. Even with the Scream tropes throughout, it's still a fun movie to watch.
Very underrated film. The scene where Laurie breaks the gate control with a rock to lock her and Michael in - then screaming “MICHAEL!” while carrying an axe as the Halloween theme kicks in was more badass then in Halloween Ends.
Oh god yes. I stood up and clapped in 98 when that head went off.
100000% agree! Is the movie particularly scary? No. But there’s an anticipation and a build and a level of suspense that we haven’t seen in the franchise since 🤷♂️ and it’s a hell of a lot of fun. And like you said, it gives us the conclusion and finality that the fans of the franchise wanted and needed at that time

@@thotslayer9914 I doubt it, there will be fans. Halloween 3 has become a cult classic, & somehow even H5 & 6 have thier fans. I'd argue H20 started showing its age shockingly soon for it's time, theres jus something about 90s & early 2000s slashers that all aged super quick

I love H20 because it keeps the brother sister narrative which I think makes the suspense so much greater and Mike Myers psychotic state even more psychotic in the fact it’s his own damn sister 👧 🔪. The very definition of psychopathy is to not have the ability to feel empathetic, is there a trait that emphasises this more than hunting your own sister!?
I don’t really understand why so many people are opposed to the brother/sister linkage. Is it a little hacky? Maybe, but it provides motivation to keep the story going.

That’s the thing about us Halloween fans we have all had our favorite timeline since h20 retconned things i think. I’ve always been a 1,2,H20 person. I think that’s why I wasn’t mad when I didn’t enjoy 18 as much as others. For me 18 is just H40. I realize not everyone is a huge fan so that might have flown over peoples heads, like how much of 18 feels like a remake of H20. But I am a huge fan and I wasn’t impressed by the story. The mask and James judge Courtney as Michael of course were great.
I wasn’t so bothered by ends, I liked it. Once again it’s cause I’ve had my own head cannon for years so for me it was a refreshing new story. I know for people invested in the new trilogy it was very disappointing and that sucks. But to those fans or new fans I wanna say, choose ur own adventure lol. I lived through the disappointment of resurrection, I’ve been hit hard before. For me and others the solution has always been preferred timelines.

Honestly, H20 is practically perfect in every way. Pacing was perfect, no padding the run time. Whole thing was brilliant.

It’s one of the better Halloween sequels, even though it continues the ridiculous ‘brother/sister’ thing. That late 90s feel it has is like a warm fire on a cold night lol

Was actually the first Halloween movie I saw. Enjoyed it as a 14 year old back then. Enjoy it now.
H20 was so good at the time when Janet Leigh drove up in the psycho car and offered "Lori motherly advice", the whole theatre erupted in clapping and shouts and went wild. I watch Halloween and H20 back to back. I ignore all the others. I've seen them all but none matter at all to me but those two. And yes I saw the original in the theatre and it was beyond horrifying. Great video!!

Halloween III is the most “Halloween” movie there is, after the original. it is the closest we got to the yearly Halloween anthology John Carpenter wanted to create. H3 is a great little movie on it’s own. Imagine the amazing horror stories we could have gotten if the studio hadn’t gotten in the way. 4 more days till Halloween…Silver Shamrock! 🎃🧙🏽💀

H20 has some giant issues, but the opening and the ending are definitive for me. Some serious nostalgia though, I convinced my mom to let me see it when i was 14 in theaters after i had just watched the original. Hard to beat the impact of that regardless of quality

H20 was the first Halloween movie I saw as a child. My parents had a crazy collection of vhs tapes & we went through a lot of them during a hurricane one year & H20 was in the lineup. I always loved that movie but I thought it was nostalgia goggles that made it for me. Lowkey kinda glad I wasn't wrong on that front. One of the few outliers of the black people die first trope back then. The opening with JGL & the lady leading into Loomis talking about Michael having the devil's eyes was terrifying as a kid. Given how the new trilogy went, gun to my head, I'd probably make my trilogy 1,2, & 20 Year Later. Also, total admission to the rose tinted nostalgia goggles here but I like the trainwreck that is Resurrection. I'd even say it's more fun to watch than Kills & Ends. Busta Rhymes roundhouse kicks Michael in a burning garage. It's totally bonkers. 2018 is cool. I used to watch all of them on AMC during October too so even the franchise's bad sequels have always been guilty pleasures.

This is my favorite Halloween movie. Seen them all but this one was gold. IMO
The Elm Street franchise has a similar Trilogy I like to call the Nancy Trilogy which is the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Dream Warriors and then A New Nightmare all feature the character Nancy (mostly) as a main character
Kevin Williamson wrote the story for h20 and worked on one of the drafts so it heavily has the scream feel to it. My preferred timeline is 1 2 and 4. By the end of 4 "evil" has gone full circle. If you've seen 4 you know what I'm talking about
I love the scene where Laurie is confessing who she actually is, to her boyfriend. The eerie music that plays as she tells 'The tale of Micheal Myers' and the look of disbelief on the boyfriends face afterwards. And then he gets gutted like a fish...but that scene was great
The sequel to HALLOWEEN ENDS could involve time traveling back to the time of H20 and picking up the story from there. This would make it possible for Jamie Lee Curtis to return and put an end to Michael once and for all again.
This movie is so underrated
my favorite trilogy and or timeline is the original Halloween , Halloween 2 and Halloween 4. and then you end it there. The little girl at the top of the stairs with bloody Scissors in her hands. It's starting again. The message being is that evil doesn't die...it's a force of nature.
Yup, I like that. I also like Halloween 1 and 2 and that’s it. Ultimately I like Halloween ‘78 and done. Such a scary and effective ending in that he’s still out there and he could be anywhere. Very chilling! It really should never have been a franchise.

I’m probably the only person to ever say this but my favorite trilogy out of the group is 4, 5 & 6. I loved the Danielle Harris movies and part 6 is just really nostalgic for me. I love watching that mean drunk dad getting killed in the basement!

They had to retcon Michael's death in Resurrection bc it was in the studios contract that Michael can't die
So they knew going in he wouldn't stay dead? That makes the H20 ending even dumber if they knew it would be immediately reversed.

Each year I'm going to alternate between Halloween 1978, Halloween 2 and H20 and Halloween 1978, Halloween 2018, Kills and Ends. I love both sets so as a fan, I'm happy.
I was caught off guard to hear other people also see the Halloween cannon as Halloween 1, Halloween 2, then H20. I kinda thought I was alone on that hill. 😅 Oh and of course Halloween 3 is welcome to join my canon as well.
I saw Halloween 2018 and thought it was good, thought it should have stopped there tho. Saw Halloween Kills and was severely disappointed. So much so I have yet to watch Halloween Ends. Because the Halloween movies really ended with H20 for me. I'd still love to know how Michael got his eyes back after Halloween 2 though... was that ever explained?
Well Halloween 3 was never a sequel to Michael. In fact they play Halloween 78 on tv in that movie.

I honestly enjoyed the Halloween 2007 version it was really brutal and like seeing Michael as a kid then go to the institute and seeing him big as hell and look really threatening
Great video on the fan canon; if H20 had a little bit of color correction, a deepfaked/improved mask, and a more Carpenter-esque score, I would have no complaints of it as THE ending. Hope you'll do Halloween 4 as the third of the "Evil Never Dies" trilogy (or the "Loomis Timeline" as Cody Leach just dubbed it).
